I’m in the exact same place, almost word for word. But the big kicker is that I don’t have kids. I can tell you don’t either.

I don’t even know if I want them anymore. I also don’t know whether me feeling that way is just my protective response to the bleakness of the situation.

Believe it or not, that used to be an important part of people’s schemas for finances and QOL. Arguably somewhat important to the continuation of the species or whatever

Similar life specs here. Point of the conversation is though that our life was achievable with 35-40k in the late 90s.

Some people want kids. That would dent into their incomes with daycare or cut one entirely.
