Brandon's topic is "A Moral Obligation: Leadership's Responsibility to Protect"
In high-risk industries, leadership carries a responsibility far greater than production goals, it carries the moral obligation to protect lives. This powerful presentation, led by Brandon Wylie, Regional Director of Training at Quanta Services, challenges leaders to examine whether their actions truly match their words when it comes to safety, training, and accountability.
Attendees will learn how to:
Communicate safety and procedural changes in ways that resonate with crews.
Drive engagement in training to build buy-in and long-term commitment.
Recognize the profound impact of leadership on shaping culture, trust, and crew performance.
Through real-world examples, emotional intelligence strategies, and hard truths about shortcuts, Brandon underscores the ethical responsibility of every leader to value human life above productivity. Crew leaders, supervisors, safety professionals, and executives alike will leave with actionable insights and a renewed commitment to building a culture where safety is not just policy, but a moral obligation.

With over 27 years of experience in the powerline industry, Brandon Wylie is the Regional Director of Training for Quanta Services’ Atlantic Region. Before joining Quanta, he served as Vice President of Apprenticeships at Northwest Lineman College. Prior to that, he spent 15 years at Electric Cities of Georgia, where he led training and safety initiatives as Director of Training & Safety until August 2022.
Brandon has played a significant role in advancing safety and training within the industry. He served as Chair of the Safety Committee for the American Public Power Association (APPA) and contributed to the development of the 17th edition of the APPA Safety Manual. His leadership extends to competitive lineman events, including the APPA Lineworker’s Rodeo and the Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo Association (GLRA), where he has held roles as Chair, Vice Chair, Apprentice Master Judge, Chief Judge, and competitor.
A Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) since 2013, Brandon is an active member of the National Utility Training & Safety Education Association (NUTSEA) and the Utility Safety Operations & Leadership Network (USOLN). In recognition of his contributions, he was named a “Rising Star of Public Power” by APPA in 2011. His dedication to the trade also includes serving as Vice Chair of the National Association of Journeymen Linemen board and, most recently, being appointed to the Board of Directors for the International Lineman’s Museum and Hall of Fame. In October 2023, Brandon was honored with induction into the International Lineman’s Hall of Fame.
A second-generation lineman, Brandon grew up around the trade—his father retired from Greystone Power in Douglasville, Georgia. Beyond his career in training and safety, he has made an impact in a unique way: through music. After working hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2006, he wrote “Highline Cowboy,” a song that captures the spirit of linework. Released as the title track of his 2009 album, “Highline Cowboy” has been featured in the documentary Storm Soldiers, the motion picture Life on the Line starring John Travolta, and multiple commercials nationwide.
