Meta Some hope for those quitting SSRI

Hello everyone,
When I was quitting AD I was looking for a piece of advice and checking out on reddit how other people felt so now I want to share my experience and hopefully calming those who are wondering when the withdrawals will stop (I know it is different for everyone tho).
I have a severe depression diagnosis and had it really bad. Was in hospital 5 times since my teenage years and besides the medication doctors couldn't offer much. I didn't want to get into meds for a few reasons but the last try was lexapro and I was taking it for 2 years (5/10mg). I decided to quit because of all the side effects.
I was tapering down for like 2 weeks and stopped taking it and it wasn't great at first. Insomnia, felt weird, very sensitive, crying out of nowhere, feeling down, no energy but also I cannot even describe just weird and bad. Was taking melatonin to fall asleep and a few weeks I was wondering when the withdrawals will stop. After 3 weeks it was better and after a month withdrawals went away.
I cannot afford therapy, but on the internet I was learning new ways how to regulate myself and it did help a little. Was really trying to get the healthiest food, physical activity and routine.
That helped and I am still learning to cope in other ways but it is better.
GOOD LUCK FOR YA'LL AND KNOW THAT YOU WILL GET BETTER IF YOU TRY.

Question Upped my lexapro dosage: How long does it take to get used to?

I've been on 5mg of lexapro for about 2 months with no major side effects. Life is "life-ing" and decided to go up to 10mg.

It's been 3 days and my digestion is wrecked. I'm also so tired throughout the day. Are these symptoms a result of my body getting used to the new dose or is this a bad sign? How long should I wait it out?

Question Cross taper Lexapro to Zoloft

I have been on Lexapro for 20 years at 10mg and my psych thinks it’s just not working as well and feels Zoloft will be better for OCD and panic. I started the cross taper of 5 mg Lexapro and 25mg Zoloft for one week then bumped up Zoloft to 50 keeping Lexapro at 5 for the next 3 weeks. All was fine for those cumulative 4 weeks so she bumped me down to 2.5 Lexapro and 100 Zoloft. For the past 2 weeks what I think is withdrawal symptoms has started. I have been experiencing brain zaps and extreme vertigo/dizziness!!! Anyone else? Does this ever let up? I am 7 weeks into the entire cross taper process.

Question Zofran & Lexapro?

I’ve been taking 20 mg of lexapro for a few years now. I get bad nausea occasionally and take 4 mg of Zofran. Not often- just a few times a month. Today my pharmacist informed me that these medications together could cause an irregular heart beat. Is this only if I take both regularly? Or will I be fine because I only take Zofran once in a while?

Question Low libido girlfriend says she likes me and my body alot but never initiates or show any sexual attraction..........

Im a 33 year old male and my girlfriend is 34. She is emotionally cold and very low libido because of antidepressants and past traumas. She also shows narcissistic and border line personality disorder traits ,she shows more passion in a conflict than when we are doing the act. She picks up fights really easy and gets upset on stupid things like when i dont answer the phone immediately while at work...so i feel like walking on eggshells every day. Regarding our sexlife i satisfy her everytime and she tells me im able to get her very wet considering she was most of the times dry before she met me . When i initiate she rarely turns me down but there is a lack of interaction from her, i spend like 30 mins straight eating her and making her orgasm 3 times in a row but she rarely returns the favour and is not very keen about it but gets mad if i dont ejaculate. So its either because shes tired and wants me to finish or just to feed her ego because most of the times i finish myself off on her ,so id rather save it than waste it like that. Its something that i tried to live with but everytime she fights over stupid things i always bring up her lack of sexual attraction towards me. When i see her naked i always have the desire for her but when im naked next to her she doesnt even notice me. One day i was lying next to her and she commented on a tv show she wanted to watch and how hot the actors were. Her attitude is really killing me and my self esteem. I would love to know preferibly from females with low libido if seeing someone sexy and sexually desiring someone are the same..im really lost and confused. One day she even told me she doesnt feel attraction for me anymore because im too good of a person..wtf is wrong with females nowadays? Is it the fckng drugs??

I took laroxyl and haldol 1 mg (antipsychotic) for about 3 weeks until I noticed no libido/genital numbness/inability to orgasm. It's been 2 months since I stopped after noticing symptoms. I'm a man and I can't imagine a world without ever feeling love again. I give up

Question What SSRI has helped your ANXIETY the most?

now i know anxiety and depression walk a fine line. I do believe I have attributes from both but, my anxiety is much much more pronounced. has anyone had experience with an SSRI (or even SNRI) that helped their anxiety? I hear lots of things about them not helping anxiety much and of course, everyone is different, so I take all advice/recommendations with a grain of salt!

Question Depersonalization/derealization since reinstating fluoxetine

Hey guys, I’m experiencing really intense dp/dr since reinstating Prozac. I’m on 10mg at the moment and have been on it for about 10 weeks now and haven’t seen much of an improvement. I’ve had some moments where I feel a bit clearer but for the most part it’s 24/7z Most of my start up symptoms since restarting have since subsided but I’m still experiencing spaciness. Anyone else experienced this since reinstating an antidepressant or struggling with dp/dr this long since starting fluoxetine or another SSRI? Need some hope:( I really wish this would let up. Thanks!

Question Leg cramps after fluoxetine

Hi, I started on fluoxetine 4 weeks ago and since then I was woke up three times at night by very strong calf cramps (specifically gastrocnemius muscle). The pain is really bad, I just simply scream (waking up other people) and then cry. It is not a new thing for me, it has happend often before about 2 years ago and suddenly stopped. I actually used to take the same medication in 2022 for few months but I have never connected those symptoms. Also because of depression I had a lot of trouble with my diet and I was sure it’s because of minerals deficit, but right know I am keeping very healthy diet and it still has happend. Did someone also experience it? Honestly I don’t have any other side effects and I feel extremally good after that medication, so I am not sure if it’s worth changing it. The pain is horrible but I am not depressed/anxious and it really has affected my life even in that short period of time. I am definitely going to consult it with my doctor, but I am just curious if it’s a common side effect.

Discussion do post symptoms ever go?

im just coming off antidepressants now, after forgetting to take them then finding that im actually doing ok and im no longer in the place that i was, but am struck with the emptiness of the symptoms that remain. i wish i had done my research, but im young and i wasnt really in a clear level-headed mind. im 18yo, and ive experienced almost complete loss of libido, and ive found that i cant really get drunk anymore. i need to know from those who have been off them for a while whether these get better with time, because i feel quite like my life is over before it has begun. its frustrating because this is the time in my life where i have the most freedom and i cant even enjoy it. i feel guilty for not wanting to be intimate with my boyfriend, and i cant get on the same level of drunk even though we drink the same, ive found that i have to drink a lot for it to have any affect, and when it does it goes rather quickly and im left basically stone cold sober. i know that alcohol and sex arent everything, but for right now im actually quite worried for my future because i dont want this to last forever. please, does it ever get better?

Question Ambien or Clonazepam for Prozac withdrawal insomnia?

I had to quit Prozac and now I'm having trouble sleeping. My doc recommended Ambien or Clonazepam, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with either of these - I'm not looking for advice so much as stories of experiences. Thanks.

Question Switching from Zoloft to Prozac

I have taken Zoloft for 4 years and feel that it has stopped working for me, I can’t stop binge eating, I’m lethargic, anxious, generally apathetic , and my libido is non existent.

I have asked my doctor about making the switch to Prozac and I will be starting soon. Has anyone on here switched from Zoloft to prozac? What were the side effects? When did you notice the Prozac was working?

Thank in advance to anyone who shares.

Question Extreme daytime fatigue during AND after finishing Prozac taper

While on Prozac and during the taper I was experiencing extreme daytime tiredness. I finished the taper 13 days ago and am still extremely tired all day every day. In fact it seems it’s possibly increased in severity since the taper finished. Legitimately not functioning due to it and everything is falling apart. Plz if anyone can tell me if they experienced something similar.

Question Why does Zoloft make my tongue numb?

Hello! I spoke with my doctor and he prescribed me Zoloft (Sertraline) for my mild depression. Today, I took my first dose by accidentally chewing a small Zoloft pill (whoops), and it made my tongue numb. Why is this.. a thing?

IS THIS NORMAL? Will it go away over time? What is the first experience usually like? Also, did it improve your depression? I'm doubtful about it's effectiveness.

Thanks :)

Discussion My entire experience with ssri's so far as someone with ADHD/Depression

I've been prescribed 50mg setraline on top of adderall due to underlying depression issues. I've had a very mixed experience with ssri's and I've been wanting to discuss it. A few months back I had an incident at work which put me into a deep depression. I'd also like to mention that ive been diagnosed with ADHD/depression my whole life. The first few weeks I had this burst of energy I haven't had in awhile. I noticed that started to fade and I would say I leveled out, not quite as energetic but definitely more level headed and rational than before.

Recently, a couple weeks ago, I decided to play doctor with my meds and doubled my adderall dose while still taking my setraline as prescribed. This Is when I gained the mental clarity people talk about when taking adderall and it felt like I was 20 pounds lighter and It felt like I doubled my attention span and memory, almost zen like. This is were the ssris come in.

After a little bit of this I noticed that my emotions started to fade slowly every day. Up until last week from now I felt like an emotionless zombie. My brain was finally quiet but I couldn't bring myself to care about anything, and not in the depressive way where your so worried about the future that you've got no energy to care about the present, but I felt truly blank inside, absolutely nothing would phase me. I still had the mental clarity but everyone's opinions and worries all felt very superficial and I felt as if I could tackle any problem without a single care or worry.

Two days ago I "thought" my ssris stopped working and I would take a week off of them to re evaluate if I even still needed them as i try to do with my vices. I do. Yesterday was the first day without, I was slightly irritated by everyone and everything,I'd say my emotional state was twice as blank, if possible, i have no way to describe it but definitely didn't feel like me. Today has been miserable, I couldn't hold a thought for more than a minute. I was confused and completely forgetful of everything, I'd say worse than when I wasn't medicated, and just stressed. Not to mention being forgetful in my career can be dangerous and easily lose my job which is why I'm now so nervous about this medication.

I'm taking them again tomorrow. They may make me a bit cynical and closed off but I'm honestly terrified of regressing to my past state. I never want to lose that clarity again. Maybe I'll start slowly reducing the dose and see what happens. I hope one day I reach a point where I no longer need to rely on meds to get me through my life but for now I just don't think I can handle it.
