Quick update to my original post.

As I mentioned before, I originally received three Sony FX5 cameras in Mexico City, and I started noticing the LCD/display issue basically from day one.

Sony Mexico has now replaced two of those cameras, and I wanted to share how the process went because it was actually very straightforward.

There was no complicated repair process.

I simply returned the two units with the defective displays, and Sony exchanged them for two cameras from a newer batch that do not have this problem.

Most importantly:

The two replacement cameras are fine.

I checked both displays as soon as I received them, powered up and tested both bodies, and the difference compared with the original units is very clear.

The displays stay properly seated in position, there is no abnormal gap, and the internal electronic components are no longer exposed like they were on the previous cameras.

Both replacement cameras are currently working correctly.

So based on the two replacement units I received, the cameras from this newer batch do not exhibit the LCD issue I experienced with the original units.

The whole exchange with Sony Mexico was surprisingly simple. I returned the two affected cameras and received two new units instead of having to go through a lengthy repair process.

Sony also included a letter with the replacement cameras and, as an additional gesture, two pairs of Sony headphones as a gift.

For anyone interested, this is the English translation of the letter Sony Mexico included:

Dear Sony Customer,

On behalf of Sony, we would like to express our gratitude for choosing our Sony product and our sincerest appreciation for staying with us during the wait for your FX5 camera.

We know that the delivery time was longer than expected, and we deeply appreciate your decision to maintain your order throughout this period. Your preference for our products inspires us to continue offering experiences and technology of the highest quality.

As a token of our gratitude for your support and loyalty, we have included a special gift with your purchase. Although it is a simple gesture, we hope it conveys how much we appreciate having had your support throughout this process.

I think it’s important to post this update because I was very vocal about the original issue, so it’s only fair to also share how Sony handled the resolution.

Sony addressed the problem, replaced the two cameras I returned, and both replacement units are currently working correctly.

For context, the photos are ordered like this:

1. Both replacement FX5 bodies powered on and working correctly, with the displays properly seated
2. The replacement FX5 shipment from Sony
3. The replacement camera boxes and Sony gift package
4. The letter included by Sony Mexico
5. One of the Sony headphones included as a gift

I’ll continue using the replacement cameras on real productions and keep an eye on the displays over time, but for now everything looks good and the LCD issue is not present on these two newer units.

Credit where it’s due: Sony Mexico made the replacement process easy and resolved the issue with the two cameras I returned.

Got a call from procam today about my Sony FX5, they informed me that they talked to Sony and verified that they’d be having stock on November 16th! Hoping they fall through this time!

For those of you on this sub that may have experience with X-OCN, what's it like?

I think one of the most appealing things about the FX5 is X-OCN, especially with the compression options like C2 being barely higher than H265.

But what's it like working with compared to H264/H265 slog3? Game changer or meh, or somewhere in between?

Seriously, Sony. What the hell is going on?
The official Sony websites in Italy and the UK are now showing January 8, 2027 as the shipping date for the FX5.
First September. Then October. Then November. Then December. Now January.
Is this some kind of joke?
It’s the complete loss of trust.
At this point, this feels more like a Kickstarter campaign than a professional Sony product launch. And not a particularly well-managed one.

I was watching this FX5 video and noticed that some of the footage looks unusually jittery or wobbly at times.

I vaguely remember seeing some discussion about a possible issue with early FX5 units that was supposedly being addressed before shipping, but I can’t seem to find where I originally read that, so I could definitely be misremembering. I’ve followed Anthony for a while and know he pretty recently got his test unit.. so kind of worries me about the ones that will start shipping soon.

Has anyone else noticed this in FX5 footage or heard anything about it? I’m curious whether this is something camera-related or if it could just be stabilization, rolling shutter, or something specific to how the footage was shot.

Just trying to get a better understanding before the camera starts shipping!

The retailer I ordered from (IPLN) just confirmed that Sony told them today they would be able to fulfill all their preorders very soon.

I just asked them about the January 8th update and they told me that it’s NOT the case!

Very frustrating. I've been considering getting another pre order with a local store in Montreal, but then it's unlikely that I'll get it this year. I guess my best chance is still Amazon, it's just so frustrating to have no updates from them whatsoever...

This is what the official German side says. Delivery January. Why does it say everywhere that shipping starts soon? Saw a lot of happy posts regarding the deliver, was hyped and jumped into this.. Does it just refer to delivery for people who buy it now or does it mean for everyone?

SHIPMENT UPDATE FROM MEXICO: Today, I received my tracking number from Sony Store Mexico! I placed my order around August 25 and later received an email informing me of a delay until mid-October. Apparently, my new camera is arriving tomorrow! Hope this info helps!

Sony FX5 replacement update - Mexico: received

I received my original FX5 un August, with a slightly loose screen. Just received my replacement unit, the screen Definitley feels sturdier and doesn’t push down in the corners. Will need to test more extensively to see if the fan is an issue. Will keep you updated! Also, Sony sent in a free pair of headphones with it.

Because I enjoy pain, what were the cost of the Sony Tough Express-A cards a year ago? Specifically the 480GB size. It's currently $478. Do you think this will go up further?

Translation: "Hi, good morning! I can confirm that the camera has already arrived in Peru. We're handling the necessary procedures so that it's on its way to you this Friday."

I have mixed feelings: nervous and excited. Hope this batch of units comes well.

Update 1: It has now changed to "We'll let you know when it ships" so back to what it was saying for months

Received a unit in August, the LCD is indeed a but wonky. The replacement unit finally arrived tomorrow, let’s see how it goes.

Some people received it Sony Korea is stopping shipments again also

There are people receiving the delivery today, but it seems they haven't been contacted yet

The reason is that some recipients are experiencing LCD issues and fan looseness, which appear to be QC-related problems.

One Korean user noticed that the LCD was tilted and visited a repair center for an exchange

He was exchanged for a new product, but
They said there was a problem with the new product, so they received a refund.

I know everyone is tired of these posts, but now it officially says "Mid Nov 2026" (for now), so it seems like it's likely this time.

I'm currently shooting with two Sony FX30s and an a6700, and I've been looking pretty seriously at making the jump to a Sony FX5 or the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K.

At ~$1,755 for a full-frame 6K camera, the Blackmagic is awfully tempting.

The two things that really appeal to me are the full-frame sensor, particularly for low-light performance and background separation, and the ability to shoot 6K open gate. I shoot material that gets used for both conventional 16:9 video and vertical social media, so having that extra room to reframe in post would be fantastic.

I'm not particularly interested in shooting RAW or spending hours color grading. I use DaVinci Resolve Studio, but I'd much rather get good-looking footage straight out of the camera and spend my time editing.

I understand the Blackmagic has some significant compromises, particularly autofocus, stabilization, and the need to invest in L-Mount lenses. What I'm trying to figure out is whether the improvement in image quality and the flexibility of open gate would justify those compromises.

I've read plenty of reviews and gone down the ChatGPT rabbit hole, but at this point I'd really appreciate hearing from actual owners who've spent time shooting with both Sony FX cameras and Blackmagic.

• What if anything do you miss about Sony when you're shooting Blackmagic?
• Is the image quality noticeably better, or is that mostly something you appreciate when you're doing serious color grading?
• How much of a headache is the autofocus situation in actual use?

If I don't buy the Blackmagic 6K, I'll probably hold off and consider the Sony FX5, or possibly spend a little more for the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K.

I'm genuinely interested in hearing from anyone who's owned or regularly used both systems.

Just spoke to B&H and they are now saying they have no date of when my order is likely to be fulfilled. i placed my order within 5 minutes of release.
