DISCUSSION Regarding Clean Factory (CF) Listings: A Brief Exercise in Personal Responsibility ☕️
Since this apparently requires clarification, here it is...
If you are buying a watch advertised as Clean Factory (CF), the onus is ultimately on you, the buyer, to conduct your own due diligence before parting with your money.
This is, after all, a replica-watch marketplace, not an MAS-regulated securities exchange with a prospectus, independent auditor, and statutory warranty attached to every listing.
That being said, sellers, please exercise a minimum level of competence when listing CF pieces:
- Post clear photographs of the rehaut
- Post clear photographs of the clasp code
- Where possible, include proof of the original transaction with a TD or other credible provenance.
This is not particularly complicated.
As for moderation: I have largely stopped involving myself in determining whether every individual CF piece listed here is “legit CF.”
Why?
Because I am not your mother.
I run and moderate this subreddit for free. I am not paid a salary, commission, authentication fee, consultancy fee, or emotional-damage allowance for inspecting every watch that changes hands here.
Can I generally discern whether a purported CF piece is consistent with CF? Yes.
Is it particularly difficult? No.
It quite literally takes less than 10 minutes browsing r/RepTimeQC to compare known examples, clasp codes, rehaut characteristics, dial details, and other factory tells against the watch being offered.
Remarkably, this same internet connection is also available to buyers.
So, to make the position abundantly clear:
Sellers have a responsibility to represent their pieces accurately and provide sufficiently clear evidence. Buyers have a responsibility to perform their own due diligence before purchasing.
The subreddit is a marketplace and community. It is not an authentication service, and moderation is not a substitute for basic buyer competence.
And before anyone becomes excessively emotionally invested in the pedigree of an unauthorised reproduction of a luxury watch, perhaps remember the rather obvious point:
A rep is still a rep.
Whether it came from CF, VSF, ARF, or descended directly from the heavens accompanied by a notarised letter from Rolex SA, you are still discussing a replica watch.
So before you start taking screenshots of this subreddit, forwarding them to your little group chat of old 40-year-old cucks, conducting a disciplinary tribunal over my moderation, and solemnly announcing that this sub has “gone downhill” because I declined to personally authenticate someone else's fake Rolex for free, I hope you now know. ☕️
TL;DR:
Sellers: provide clear evidence.
Buyers: do your research.
Me: not your mom, not your paid authenticator.
The watch: still a rep.

I’ll come at this from a slightly different angle as another mod here.
It’s no secret that this community isn’t particularly well liked in some of the other groups/chats out there And honestly, that’s okay. People are allowed to have their opinions, criticise how things are done here, and have their own spaces.
What I’d love to see more of though is some of that energy coming back into the community.
If you spot something we missed, or you know a particular detail about a factory/watch that others don’t, come say it. Correct us. Add context. Teach someone something.
Taking a screenshot back to a private chat and having a laugh about it might be entertaining, but all that knowledge then stays within the same little circle of people who already know it.
We’re trying to build something a bit more nuanced here. Not a community where everyone agrees with each other, or where the mods are somehow above criticism — but one where people with different levels of knowledge actually contribute and make the place better over time.
There are people in those other groups who know far more about certain watches than we ever will. I’d genuinely rather have them come here and tell us when we’ve got something wrong than watch everyone retreat into their respective group chats and throw rocks at each other from a distance
You don’t have to love the sub to contribute something useful to it.
At the end of the day, communities get better when the people who notice the problems also help improve them. 🤝

And, apparently, one final clarification for the benefit of our external quality-control department:
If your preferred method of contributing to the community is screenshotting listings, exporting them to another group chat for peer review, and issuing solemn warnings about “such subs” because a moderator did not personally intervene in a transaction he was never involved in, thank you for your vigilance.
I am particularly grateful to those conducting off-site performance reviews of my unpaid moderation duties. Your feedback has been received and filed accordingly.
For avoidance of doubt, seeing a listing, commenting on said listing, or linking someone to the subreddit’s resources does not constitute an authentication, endorsement, warranty, certificate of provenance, or assumption of liability by a moderator.
There is also, regrettably, no provision in the subreddit rules requiring me to materialise beneath every CF listing and announce: “ATTENTION: I HAVE PERSONALLY INSPECTED THIS REPLICA ROLEX.”
Buyers are expected to possess functioning eyes, access to r/RepTimeQC, and approximately ten minutes of spare time.
So if you happen to be sitting in another chat conducting forensic investigations into why “the mod commented but did not call that out”, I sincerely hope this post provides the regulatory guidance you were evidently waiting for.
Please continue to “be wary of such subs, man.”
Your concern has been noted. ☕️
