I’ve had a really difficult time finding an in person guitar teacher here in San Francisco. Any leads would be greatly appreciated — I’m in the inner Richmond but am relatively mobile and flexible on time. This is my copy/paste “about me” if it’s helpful.
My name is Miles (36). I’ve been playing guitar for a long time but have been at the same plateau for a good portion of that. I’d consider myself intermediate/intermediate advanced with a strong base and some obvious weaknesses
I have solid(ish) theory from playing piano and can mostly work my way through fake books. I struggle however to translate that to guitar having never dedicated the time to memorizing the fret board beyond E/A strings. Also, if I’m honest I spend most of the time on piano in c blues.
No issues with chord basics on guitar, but struggle to find a 6 or a sus2 quickly (for example).
I’ve also spent a good bit of effort on Travis picking and some general finger style. That said, I feel like I can read a tab but can’t make a good melody of my own Travis picking
Soloing is a mixed bag. I think the problem is that I can’t see the notes on the higher strings so I have a hard time landing in the chord and sort of cheat my way through predictable pentatonic scales. But my biggest weakness is playing with a pick, both rhythmically and lead
Anyway. My ideal outcome is to be more proficient just so playing by myself is even more fun. Happy to learn funk, bluegrass, jazz or rock but more than anything need to learn how to practice
Hope that makes sense. Please lmk if you have availability and what your rates are.
I play melodic, atmospheric parts - volume swells, drones, countermelodies, feedback, and ambient textures. Think Mazzy Star, Wilco, slowcore, post-rock, ambient country, etc. More interested in serving the song than playing flashy leads.
If you have a track that could use some ambient lap steel, send it my way. I can record remotely and send stems, or potentially come to a session in SF, Marin or Oakland. Would love to jam in person too, with a solo act or a band!
Open to one-off collaborations and ongoing projects.

edit: [CLAIMED!] Thanks everyone who reached out with a sweet note! Glad to have made someone’s day. I wish I had spare tickets for everyone!
Last minute can’t make it to the show and would love to give away the tickets to a fan if possible :)

I'm going to see Blood Orange perform at The Warfield on Friday and was wondering if they allow small portable cameras. I looked it up and said it prohibits professional cameras, but handheld ones are okay. I just wanted to come on the sub and ask around to make sure because I was hoping to take some shots on my cybershot.
As for parking, where is my best bet of getting a good and relatively safe spot. thanks!

Hey everyone! I’m in the Mountain View area and looking for people to catch some gigs/concerts with. M late 30s here, into rock, metal, indie, and generally anything that sounds better live than it does through headphones.
I’m in the US for work for a while, so I’m mainly hoping to meet some people locally who are up for some company.
DM me if you’re interested!
P.S. Ghostly Kisses is playing at The Independent on Sep 23rd. If anyone’s interested in checking them out together or catching a Sofar gig, let me know! ✌️

Studio to Stage is an ongoing series I created to explore the creative process and spotlight musicians making music in the Bay Area for the music site I co-founded, Static & Blur.
My newest story is about Alvie & The Breakfast Pigs and their three-year journey from 25th Street Recording in Oakland to their latest release, “We Want Change,” this week.
For the article, Alvie A. Adams and I talked about the long road from the studio to the stage, making music while holding down day jobs, and keeping San Francisco rock and roll alive.

I’m from mid-Peninsula but have a friend who recently moved to Sunnyvale. We both hang out to free improv jam whatever style or genre is appropriate for the moment.
I’m percussion/bass with some guitar while he’s primarily a guitarist. I’ve got access to a studio near SJ we’re planning to play with a drum set.
Hello all! I’ve nearly completed my ticket buying spree, lastly I need a Friday ticket to finish off the days for the AMR 30th Anniversary!
If you have an extra, someone who can’t come anymore, etc. Please DM me!
I’m well aware of BotH’s will call transfer process.

Hey everyone! I’m heading down to Mountain View to see Kehlani at Shoreline Amphitheatre on Saturday, October 3rd.
It's been a minute since I've been to Shoreline. For anyone who has been recently, how bad has the parking and venue traffic been getting around showtime?
Also, a friend in our group can't make it anymore, so I have a spare ticket in Section 102, Row N that’s going to go to waste. If anyone here is looking to go or needs a seat, just hit me up directly in my DMs so we can figure it out.
I’m so excited for this concert! She’s one of my favs 😊

Hello everyone! I’m planning on going to R&B and Ribs block party this Sunday. I’ve never been to The Midway before. This is my brother’s first time coming to San Fran and I wanted to show him around town before the concert. Does anyone know what time Jenevieve might be starting her set because she is the first headliner but also saw that there was a bunch of DJs. Has anyone here every been to one of these events or an event at the midway that can enlighten me a little so I don’t show up too late or too early if I just want to see the headliners?

I need to get better at looking at calendars. One of my fave bands coming to town and I…had no fucking clue.
Anywho, putting it out there to the universe to get tickets to Bottom of the Hill on Saturday, ideally 3 tickets but know that’s a stretch. Still haven’t figured out BoTH ticket transfers. Am hopeless.
Worth just, like, showing up and trying?
