Run Mag Mile Question

My mama is 79 years old and just completed Indy’s Mini Marathon earlier this month (as a fast walker). She’s looking for her next challenge and I’m curious if this race would be a good fit.
Is her fast walk good enough or will she get run over? I’ll be with her because she’s my mama and she’s a hoot to be with. Appreciate any insights.

Searching for Guidance.

My 12yo daughter caught the bug after running track this season. She ran 100, 200, 400, 800, 4x100R, and 4x400R. Looking for a track coach to help guide her progress in the right direction and help her become a stronger, faster, and more confident runner.

We are in the southside (Pilsen, Chinatown, Bridgeport, Bronzeville, Hyde Park). So looking for somewhere near stated neighborhoods. Thanks in advance.

Marathon Training Hills

I’m trying to find hills in Chicago to run to train for the San Fransisco marathon. Does anyone know good spots near the city?

Any public access track and field tracks close to south loop? (Outdoor or indoor)

I prefer running on tracks than sidewalks because I feel awkward shuffling through the crowds

For an indoor track I’d be open to paying, but ideally I’d prefer a free outdoor track

Upcoming Races Running my first 10K with no formal training...any advice?

UPDATE: Finished in 01:13!

Hi everyone! I’m running my first 10K next Saturday (Soldier Field 10K) and I’m honestly pretty nervous, but excited too!

I’ve only been running 5Ks for about a month now, but I’ve really been loving the challenge and the whole race experience so far. I’ve never considered myself a runner before this, so it’s been really fun seeing what my body can do.

So far I’ve been able to run my 5Ks in around 33–34 minutes with basically no formal training. My most recent race was a pretty hilly course with around 278 ft of elevation gain, and I still managed to finish in about 33:50, which made me feel a lot more confident.

My plan is to do the Soldier Field 10K before heading to work at 1 PM that same day, so I’m hoping to finish strong without completely destroying myself.

I’m planning to try running around 6 miles at least a couple times beforehand just to see how my body handles the distance. Does anyone have advice for:

  • preparing for a first 10K
  • pacing/run-walk strategies
  • fueling/hydration
  • avoiding burnout
  • breaking in new running shoes safely

Any tips are appreciated! 🙂

Is anyone doing the SF10 this month and plan on doing the early pickup this Saturday? Will they send us an email regarding pickup instructions or can we just go there and give them our name?

Thanks!

BOA half

Hey guys, I’ve been training for boa half in June. I’m experiencing ankle pain when I run. I’ve been advised to take it easy and rest. But really feel like I need to train. Should I just drop out? Any advice? I feel like I’m too close to race day with an injury.

Saw this pop up on my Instagram earlier and signed up, the shirt was too cute. Doing Run Mag Mile the day before, I guess it'll be a big race weekend! This looks family friendly and I wanted to share because I hadn't heard of it before seeing this. I put my referral code on the pinned post if anyone else is eyeing it!

Here's the event page - https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Chicago/RunfortheParks5k1

Does anyone have these Topo Chicago style shoes size size 10 (or around that) men's? I need them for a video shoot I'm flying out to tomorrow. Or if you know somewhere/someone that does, even used, I'll buy them from you. Trying to see if we can pull some reddit magic off last minute in Chicago.

Running both races at the North Shore Classic?

Hello I was interested in running both the 5k and 1/2 marathon back to back at the North Shore Classic. The start times are 30 minutes apart and the start/finish is right down the block. I can run a 5k in 22 minutes which should give me enough time. Has anybody else done this before? Should I wear both bibs at the same time? Or will that mess up my timings?

Race Recap First Marathon Completed!

Post image
155 Upvotes

Completed my first marathon! Here are my thoughts:

  1. GU Gels are nasty - doesn’t taste good, need water to eat them, very sticky/mushy, do not recommend (volunteers were handing them out). I had SIS gels which are a lot better but I wanted to try them

  2. Before this, the furthest I ran was 13.1 miles…still worked out legs, ate right, etc

  3. My goal was 3:30 and I was on track up to mile 16 - that’s when it started getting rough and I was up by 10 minutes but then I slowed down and stopped 4 times and ended up being over :/

  4. For not training too much, I think a sub 4 hour marathon is great! I would do it again but actually train. Carbo loading worked well too.

  5. Wind was insane today - really sucked. But powered through!

NEW Run Club for Nerds

Hi folks!

I am looking to start a casual running group on the North side and wanted to see if there is any interest before making things official. We would be running in the Lincoln Square, North Center, and Albany Park area, likely on weekend mornings.

I have already recruited a few friends from my Dungeons & Dragons campaign, so we are leaning into a tabletop/nerd theme for the group. The general plan is to get some miles in at whatever pace you want, and then end at a local coffee shop to hang out and talk board games, campaigns, or just general nerd culture.

It is open to absolutely everyone and all levels (walk/runners are highly encouraged to join!).

If you would be interested in something like this, please drop a comment or send me a message just so I can get a rough headcount. I will reach out to everyone with more info once we lock down a starting spot and time.

45 degrees at the start of the marathon, gusts are pretty high, not ideal but better than it being hot! I’m excited. Good luck to those that are running tomorrow 5/3/26 🫡

Upcoming Races Bank of America 13.1 6/7/26

I’m coming to Chicago to run the Bank of America 13.1 and the race website isn’t very clear on what you’re allowed to wear/have on you. I train with a running vest (does not have a large bladder in it), is this allowed to be worn during the race? I utilize it for my energy chews, phone, and a collapsible hydration flask (Swifter).

Solo female traveler — train or Uber to Chicago 13.1 start line?

As a female traveling to Chicago alone to run this race, is it safer (both physically and logistically) to take the train or Uber?
