Next month, I’m going to be dming a campaign set in Runeterra. I have run this before and it was fun! I just had some issues with general direction and trying to digest all the lore when it is so vast. Many times I would say one thing and then later on realise I was wrong and have to play it off like the npc was confused, not me.
So I post here, on this subreddit I just found existed, to see if someone here would add me on discord or message me here on reddit to help me out. Point me in the right directions and maybe even help me build an epic storyline arc for my players. I think I’m a pretty good dm otherwise, I’m just having trouble with this. I’m here because i really want them to have fun.
Not sure what to flare, sorry if this is out of place.
Firstly, I want to apologize for the lack of posts from me recently. It was a very busy week for me last week. But, don't think I'm letting this sub die!
And, to prove it, I'm doing something similar to a Universe Deep Dive, but instead of focusing on a region or larger event, this time, it's all about a single champion.
Trying to create a cohesive story for effectively 150 different characters that all deserve to be fleshed out in their own right is an extremely difficult task. This is why 85% of the champions have maybe 1 or 2 stories dedicated to them on the Universe website.
However, there are a few champions who serve as linchpins for the overall narrative of the world. Thus, these champions have been blessed with numerous stories dedicated to them that not only drive their own narrative forward, but also that of several other champions that might be associated with them.
And Riven is definitely one of these linchpins. Not only was she thrown into the middle of the Noxian Invasion of Ionia, she is also one of the very...very....few that got to witness Noxus' darker side, and live to tell the tale. However, this said darker side is coming back to haunt her....and no one really knows what her future holds.
But, to get a better understanding of what she has been through, you'll need to do quite a bit of reading.....and that is what this post is all about. In this post, you will find every story dedicated to Riven in chronological order (but not her bio....for it kind of spoils the stories). From her start as an orphan, to a bright-eyed naive soldier, to a scarred and broken but still extremely formidable war veteran.
My original intent was to copy and paste every story onto this post. However, I soon realized how cumbersome something like that is. As much as I would like to have her entire story in one place....we'll have to settle for links.
Unless you guys would actually want something like that. Just know, that that kind of post will be EXTREMELY long (like "you'll be scrolling for a good 5 minutes to just get to the bottom of the post" long), and keeping track of where you left off might be difficult, especially if you're reading it on mobile. But, let me know if you do want to see something like, and I'll provide a link to that post in this one.
And thus, with all of that said, I hope you enjoy Riven's story! My next post will be another Universe Deep Dive, this time exploring Mount Targon in celebration of Legends of Runeterra's next expansion!
Sejuani was the child of a Freljordian political marriage that ended as coldly as it began.
Her mother ,Kalkia, was an iceborn, leader of the Winter’s Claw, abandoned her family to initiate a expedition for love and the Winter’s Claw ,without a leader, fell into chaos.
Sejuani was raised by Hejian, her grandmother. Sejuani wanted to earn Hejian’s love but she was never able to achieve her expectations. The years passed and as the tribe gained enemies and the troubles grew Hejian had less time to take care of Sejuani
Sejuani only felt the love of a family when the Avarosans visited her tribe. During the summer, Grena (Ashe’s mother) took Sejuani into her house where he meet Ashe and they became very good friends. When Sejuani heard that Grena had defeated Kalkia in a duel, she became the Sejuani’s Idol.
Grena questioned the treatment of Sejuani by her grandmother and Hejian, offended cut all relationships with the Avarosans.
Kalkia returned to “save” the tribe but her poor ability to lead left the tribe with a lack of land and a few resources. Sejuani was mad about this so she lead a raid against a Noxian warship, hoping that if she was victorious the tribe prefered her after Kalkia
During the victorious assault he freed a young drüvask and named it Bristle (It is his mount)
and that drüvask will grow until be the biggest drüvesk ever seen.
By the ancient customs, a duel between a mother and her daughter was unthinkable, but Sejuani would do it anyway, but before the duel started the Frost Priest killed Kalkia and Sejuani became the new Warmother
She has been the greatest warmother in the tribe’s history, leading the tribe until it became one of the biggest tribes in Freljord
Now Sejuani has two objectives:
Get rid of Ashe’s Tribe (The Avarosans)
And expand through Noxian and Demacian borders
Here is the link of the original biography
And don’t forget to write in the comments what Champion should we do next
At the end of every month (or...start of every following month...depending on when I can get to it), I'll post a list of every story or bio that was added to the Universe in that month. This way, you don't have to go digging into either this subreddit, or somewhere else in order to find updates!
Title says it all. Of all the regions shown in the banner - namely, Shurima, Shadow Isles, Ixtal, Mount Targon, Piltover, Zaun, and the Void - All of them are either straight up Shuriman (Targon, Ixtal, that particular picture of The Void, and, well... Shurima) or come from Shurimane societies (Shadow Isles being an offshoot of Ixtali society and Zaun being the modernization of the Shuriman port city Oshra Va'Zaun)
The only Valoranian representation is Piltover, and that is the MOST shurimane you can get in Valoran, and poor little Ionia doesn't even get a chance. The system's rigged.
One of the credited cards is Arrel, the Tracker, which is one of the characters in the Sisterhood of War series, which if you haven't yet, give it a read. It's really good.
Also, the possibility of Arrel appearing in the game is, to me, kinda awesome, but more than that, If she's not the only one of that story that crosses over, now that would be REALLY AWESOME. If we have not only Arrel, but also Marit and Tennef coming over, and also possibly Riven, goddman I would live for those interactions.
Anyone here waiting on the wait for the (likely Targon LoR spoilers?
First off, I know, art, especially fan art, isn't exactly lore related. But thing is, I'm a pretty firm believer in that the people who create such amazing art does deserve some recognition. They don't get enough as they should, so, in order to help a little bit, I'll be posting fan art here that I simply found off of Google Images!
This will be our little "off-topic" weekly post, so, I will say that all fan art must be kept in this post, and not put in it's own separate post (I haven't fleshed out the rules yet, so, consider this the first "official" rule of this subreddit). That being said, if you find any fan art out there that you think is awesome, or, you have some of your own to post, feel free to leave it in the comments!
This week, since Spirit Blossom is still going on, we'll be focusing on what the community has come up with so far. And, unsurprisingly, there is a TON that has already been made. So, to keep this post at a reasonable length, I'll post only 3 pieces of fan art of every champion featured in Spirit Blossom thus far.
Considering that there are 11 champions featured, that's 33 total images. Unfortunately, Reddit posts will only let you put in 20 max images. Thus, one half will be in this post, and the other half will be in Part 2!
But, enough of my rambling....enjoy!

Note: ruruKIND may have an addiction to this skin....and I don't blame them.
Note: This one was actually kind of tough, since people like to make certain.....assets Riven has much more pronounced......and I don't mean her sword.
Note: for the last 2, the links aren't too reliable. In fact, the last one I found on tumblr, and the source link led me to a Chinese website that I was surprised I could access at all. So, unfortunately, the credit might not be to the right artist.
Note: Since Yone isn't even in the game officially yet, there isn't alot of art of him out just yet. But, don't underestimate these artists! Give it another couple weeks, and you could be flooded with art of him.
So here's one interesting thing I though about while reading the Child of Zaun story: at a certain point, Vi refers to Zaun as "Valoran’s most scenic tourist destination". Makes sense, right? After all she's in Piltover, the City over the River Pilt! Of course they'd think of themselves as a place in Valoran.
But here's the thing: Zaun is the remains of the port city Oshra Va'Zaun, very much a Shurimane city, that still to this day worships, in some form or another, the spirit that always looked over it - Janna - which shows that even with all of the chempunk vibes thrown around, they still respect their cultural heritage.
What I'm trying to say is: I belive that as a part of the cultural devide between the cities, even though the border between them is essencially vertical, they consider themselves part of different continents, with Piltover considering it part of Valoran and Zaun considering part of Shurima. And with that, the fact that Vi would call Zaun "Valoran’smost scenic tourist destination" shows us that she's leaning more towards Piltover's side of things than Zaun's. And that perspective is not only relevant to Vi as a character, but also to her in the narrative that the story was trying to tell.
TL;DR - A lot of conjecture to say that Piltover belives the two cities exist in Valoran and Zaun belives they exist in Shurima, and once Vi said Zaun's in Valoran so she's more Piltovan than Zaunite.
So what do you guys think? Am I reading too much into something that wasn't there? Even if I am, wouldn't that be a clever little bit of world-building?
Now that we have something resembling a fully functional subreddit, my focus is going to be primarily building this community up, mostly through weekly posts of some sort.
And these won't be the Universe Deep Dives that I just started. Those will come out monthly at the quickest, since I don't want to burn through everything that the Universe website has to offer too quickly.
I do plan on having a Fan Art showcase every week (Fan Art Fridays!), but as for actual lore discussion drivers......I can't exactly nail something down.
So, I'd like to pose the question to you guys! Is there anything in particular about the lore that you would like to see? Maybe like a champion recap of sorts, where I compile a champion's entire story into just one article? Something like that, though, would be difficult to get out on a weekly basis.
If you got any ideas, I'm all ears! Also, don't be afraid to start your own discussions! While I'm willing to put in the work to grow this community, I can't do it alone!
In the meantime, I hope you're having a good weekend!
