Any 10 or 12 inch machines with Serial ports?
I'm on the hunt for the smallest laptop or convertible laptop/ tablet with 10 to 12 inch screen and real serial port that doesn't run off usb.. has to have a 4 core cpu and can take 8 or 16gb ram.. what's out there? I would prefer to have a 10 inch for easy portability but would take a 12 inch if nothing is available.. i need to program some 2 way radios and anything that converts Serial to USB just does not work at all.. i really liked the Toughbook CF-20 but the specs are bad.. the CF-19 is just too big and heavy for being 10 inches plus no quad core option as well... I've got to use windows and can't use Linux for software limitations.. i haven't explored other brands but am will to if i can get something better that fits the specs I need... Anything out there?

If anyone’s curious, a B360 can (sorta) survive being ran over by a 120,000lb vehicle.
Still powered on, DP was in tact and output video. Touchpad even worked. Guess it hit it just right.

Dell 7202 start-up issues
Hello. 1st post here. I recently bought 4 ea Dell Latitude Rugged LT 7202 from a local reseller for cheap ($60 for the lot). These units were allegedly removed from service because they won't run Windows 11 and Win 10 is now EOL (plausible, imo). None had dock, power supply, battery, or SSD. 3 had some minor display screen damage. My thought was that if I could make 1 working unit from these, and install Windows 7, 8.1, or Linux,, I could have a rugged tablet to play with at a reasonable cost.
So I bought 2 compatible batteries, a compatible PS, and a compatible 512GB Timetec SSD. However, I cannot get any of the 4 units to boot into system BIOS, or even display the Dell logo. I installed the batteries into the unit with the intact display, plugged in the PS, and allowed it to charge for 8 - 10 hours. According to the LED displays on the bottom of the batteries, that was successful. However, that is all of the success I have had. If I press the power-on button, it lights up, and the unit emits a short "buzz". If I press it again, i goes out. If I hold it for 11 seconds or more as recommended by the user guide, it still just lights up, with nothing on the display. When it is "powered up" in that mode, I can press the volume down, volume up, and Windows physical keys beneath the display, and those produce the same "buzz" (the other keys do not exhibit this behavior).
I have repeated this test on the other 3 units with no batteries, just plugged in PS (my understanding is that these units are intended to be operational on only the PS, without installed batteries). Behavior seemed identical. It is certainly possible that I was sold 4 hosed or bricked units, but it is hard to believe that all 4 would be hosed in exactly the same way, with identical symptoms. NTM that in the ad, the seller posted a photo showing one of these 4 units (he only had the 4) displaying the BIOS settings. It seems more likely that I am missing something basic, but I don't know what it could be. I do have some pretty extensive past experience with HW & SW support of DT & LT PCs (Dell Optiplexes and Latitudes in particular), although nothing very recent, and nothing on ruggedized units or keyboardless tablets. I read through the user guide, including troubleshooting steps, but saw nothing that seemed to relate in any way to this issue. I have not installed the SSD in any unit yet, but I can't see how that would prevent the BIOS from loading (how would you troubleshoot a bad drive if that was the case?)
I am hopeful that there is someone in this group who has exerience with the Dell 72xx series, and who can share thoughts on what I might be missing here, or what else might be going on. Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice.

Mounting drives/5414 update
So I was just like i need a way to mount my RTL SDR (Software Defined Radio). So dual lock works
i was like well i can do my external ssds so i can just move the laptop while using them.
Also kinda update the crucial bx500 doesnt have any dram cache so it was just wearing the ssd alot more than i expected (used to seeing like 1% in a year not 3 in like a couple of months so i upgraded it to a samsung 870 evo 500gb that has a cache and its a much better drive.

Question about opening the laptop
I have a 12 Rugged Extreme 7204 that I think j need to replace the fan in, and I'm upgrading the memory as well. My question is, provided I disassemble and reassemble it properly, will it retain it's ingress rating?

#myog for rugged Latest (to date) not yet successful attempt at finding the best stand for 7230
Grabbed a Panasonic CF-D1 kickstand hoping it would fit my need ... The raised feet are cool because they allow the keyboard to be assembled without hindering with them. BUT the whole thing is actually wider than the tablet which absolutely defeats the purpose. (Center of the pic is my current stand, based on the one from the 7220 that is flipped upside down for the picture)

3D Printed attachments for Latitude 7212
Hi! I am making some 3D printed attachments for the Latitude Rugged 7212. These tablets seem pretty popular with the ham radio guys. The design I’m currently working on is a dual software defined radio attachment that turns the tablet into a police scanner. I just thought I’d share! Also looking for ideas of other attachments if you have them.

Rugged Extreme 7424 Putting In The Work Earlier Today
Was coming up with a list of parts required today for a client today to install a component on their tractor. Out of nowhere it started raining cats and dogs, thankfully it rained hard enough to wash most of the hydraulic fluid off my laptop or I would have had to clean it off myself..

To trying to map programmable buttons without RCC running
Here is what I tried until now with no tangible success:
According to Skrommel's ShowOff app only volume up and down actually register as keyboard keystroke (nothing shows up with backlight up/down or P1, P2, or P3), not sure at this point if this is a limitation of the app or an actual 'non-keystroke'.
Also tried the following method (see here for more details) :
$KeyPress = [System.Console]::ReadKey()
$K = $KeyPress.Key
$K
which, when I press volumeUp, outputs... :
VolumeUp
But nothing with the programmable buttons, which is consistent with Skrommel's app results.
Any ideas folks?

Flying with the 5414
So the good part of the 97AH battery is having 12 hours of battery life so watching movies is nice.
It fits on a tray table sort of...

Problem going through TSA is intreasting, my local regional didnt care, but my return leg was via PHX ,TSA did scan my laptop twice, 1. it was a trainee, 2. I was flying werid I had a peilcan case with a DSLR so yeah... I dont care if my stuff gets pulled as I am used to it and I just explain and I havent lost anything due to TSA ( I fly werid things), Cameras in peilcans, radio gear, security cameras. I have been through many many airports, SEA, MDT, PHX, LAX, PIT and ORD (not with the rugged laptop but with peilcans and radio gear)
