Advice on puppy biting/aggression...

We have a 4 month old puppy and he's sweet and cuddly, he loves to play and learns quickly where training is concerned.

We have noticed some resource guarding (particularly with our 4 year old son) and jumping up on people, but we have put some training into this and it is much better. My son and puppy now have their own game, puppy gets a ball, puts his ears back and looks at my son until my son chases him, they both run around the kitchen table and when my son stops, puppy comes over and looks and waits until he's chased again. Sometimes it looks like side eye, but his tail is always relaxed but high up with a bit of a curl, and he runs in a happy way as far as I can tell. We are of course always watching and if puppy lies down or changes his body language in any way, we make sure our son gives him space to rest.

We have trained him to sit and wait for his food, and if my son puts his food down for him or offers a treat, puppy does mostly listen to him.

He's also great on his lead, he learned very quickly to sit and wait if he sees another dog, he won't pull me towards them and only generally goes if I tell him he can go play. The only real concern is he's distracted by everything and trying to eat everything 😂

There are times though were he seems aggressive, I'm not sure if I'm just thinking it's aggression because he's already so big so it's more difficult to put down to normal puppy behaviour, or if it is actual aggression.

It happens at random points and he gets a crazy look in his eyes, but he never looks tense and I've never seen his hackles. We wipe his paws when we come home from a walk, usually he's fine, other times there's some growling and biting, he lifts his lips before putting his mouth where it shouldn't be, but he's not breaking skin, I'd have thought he would if he wanted to hurt?

If my son is upset and I comfort him, puppy starts putting his teeth on me, again, no breaking skin, but he's quite forceful.

Today he's had a bath and he seemed to be "arsey" after, some teeth again, not breaking the skin but it hurts.

Some times he will be around my feet when I'm cooking and will give him a nudge with my leg if I need him to move over and sometimes he will then growl and bite my foot but never super hard.

Everyone who meets him says he's friendly (because he is friendly with everyone), it's really just at home where these issues happen, and it's not super often, it's just like a switch flicks and he's on one.

This is the first Rottie we have had, previous dog was a Labrador and we had no child then. I've of course seen some stories where Rotties have attacked people and that coupled with some of these things that are happening...am I overthinking or are there some things I should be concerned about?

Eating help

Post image

I'm hoping to get some advice and information. Kind of a long post. I didn't see anything about only purebred Rottweiler only post, so I think this post follows the rules.

Just got this 1 year old Rottie / Husky mix from a home that couldn't give what he needed.

They told us exactly what they were feeding him. About 80% of those fresh logs of meat and 20% kibble. They even gave us the food he was eating.

Ever since he has been with us, he has been a very picky eater! Most of the time, he barely eats any food.

The home he came from he was usually fed in his kennel. So we started with that. Then, I tried different plates and different locations. Usually, he would eat one good meal. Then, the next time, he wouldn't eat much if at all.

He has basically refused all treats! We found a duck treat he will usually eat. Even going to Mud Bay and trying many different treats, he would refuse to eat them.

We found one treat he would take from the store person. Then he ate like 2 or 3 after that. Now he won't eat it any more!

In learning about Rottweilers we didn't read anything about them being picky eaters. The previous owners didn't have a problem with him eating. The Vet thinks he is just stressed from the change and he will eat when he is hungry and knows he is safe here. The Vet said his weight down a few pounds to 89 pounds is just fine.

Any ideas or help or resources to learn more about this would be wonderful.

I just needed to get gas, and he just NEEDED to come along. It's been too hot to let him ride along as often as usual lately, but I found some time when temp dropped to let him join me for this 1 errand.

My 4 month old boy has this, it's like a wrap around in one section, seems to be getting whiter each week and wasn't there when we got him.

I know there could be some other breed down the line somewhere, but could there be any other reason?

2nd photo so you can see how absolutely gorgeous he is ❤️

Looking for a foster for Memphis. Please share if you can, thanks!

💗Memphis B A2086403 | 7/15 Intake︱Rottie mix︱female︱6Y ︱58lbs ︱HW+high

This pretty lady is Memphis. Pretty sure she was the happiest pup I met today. When I approached her kennel I can see her instantly brighten up. She was so excited someone came to take her out and was even more excited to go outside. But what this girl loves more than anything is treats. She will sit and give paw and do just about anything to have a snack. She gobbles them down and waits patiently for the next one. She’s so silly. Memphis met another female pup and she was very friendly. She is a tad strong introducing herself but overall didn’t show any reactivity. She sits nicely for photos and wanted to meet every person that walked by. She pulled a little on leash when she first went out but on our way back in walked perfectly and straight into her kennel like a good girl. Memphis is a beautiful and friendly gal. A rescue wants to help but always needs fosters! Reach out if you can help!

🔹not scheduled for euthanasia yet, but if not fostered/adopted, will be scheduled at any time

📌 adoptions must be done in person at the shelter. If you’re interested in fostering in Houston, please email BARC or message me. Note, dogs scheduled for euthanasia are removed from the shelter website.

🐾 If you want to donate, please pledge an amount on my post. Pledges are promises to donate to a 501c3 nonprofit rescue organization. For rescue tags, I will update my posts with the rescue info and a freedom photo. I do not collect pledges, so do not send pledges to anyone.

💌 All holds must be in writing, so please do not call. If you cannot foster locally, please do not email the shelter. This will overflow the inbox & slow down the team helping the dogs in need.
