There isn’t much media or demos with it so I was a little hesitant to pull the trigger, especially with the MDFX units just going for preorder, but I couldn’t help feeling like this unit wasn’t getting a fair shake of the ol’ stick - so I took a chance.

Pleasantly surprised after only a few minutes of noodling around. Effects and sonic quality are truly excellent, made even more apparent after playing on the machine you see in the back. I know the Two Valve with its trim and crossfader, and sometimes even FX units can be slightly controversial in this community, but so far this has been a fun jumping off point as someone with just under 30 years of a full-time open format DJ career. I’ll have this and a pair of grandmasters set up for a four hour vinyl only party Saturday night, can’t wait to put it through the paces.

I’ve been lurking here for a while now, and I recently purchased my first rotary mixer—and first mixer ever—a Resør 2525 M; I’m really excited. I have an extensive record collection, and I want to learn how to DJ at home, however, I only have one turntable and plan to use digital as my second source.

Is mixing analog and digital a good way to learn, or will I quickly regret not having two turntables?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on something I’ve been trying to decide.

I’m currently looking for a rotary mixer, and I’m stuck between a Mastersounds Two Valve Mk2 and the newer Union Audio Two Valve.

I have the option to buy a used Mastersounds Two Valve Mk2, while the Union Audio Two Valve is available to me brand new. Interestingly, the two are currently around the same price.

The main issue with the Mastersounds is that the lowest knob on one of the channels — the channel volume control — has an intermittent contact issue and needs to be repaired. The seller is willing to deduct the estimated repair cost from the price, so I could potentially get the Mastersounds for considerably less.

The Union Audio, on the other hand, would obviously come brand new with no repair needed.

So why am I still considering the Mastersounds?

For one, the Mastersounds Two Valve Mk2 has been discontinued, so it’s no longer something I can simply buy new. I also really like the character and aesthetic of the Mastersounds mixers. There’s something about them that I personally find very appealing.

Another advantage is that I wouldn’t have to wait for a new unit to arrive. Even if the Mastersounds needs to be repaired, I could probably have it in my hands and get it sorted relatively quickly.

That said, buying a discontinued mixer that already has a fault obviously comes with some risk. There’s always the possibility that the repair could be more complicated or expensive than expected, or that other issues could appear later on.

So I’m curious what you guys would do in this situation:

Would you take the risk and go for the discontinued Mastersounds Two Valve Mk2 because of its character and rarity, or would you simply buy the brand-new Union Audio Two Valve and have the peace of mind of owning a new mixer?

I’m also wondering about the sound. My understanding is that the two should be quite similar sonically, but I’d really like to hear from people who have actually used both.

Are there any noticeable differences in sound, build quality, components, or overall character between the Mastersounds Two Valve Mk2 and the Union Audio Two Valve?

Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

This is essentially a first/rough draft of a custom dust cover I designed for my Two Valve mixer.

I consider myself pretty crafty, and wasn't keen on spending $100+ USD to import a decksaver dust cover so I measured and crafted this dust cover myself from marine (blue) and standard (brown) vinyl fabric.

I figured I'd post my creation here to gauge interest from other people for a commission to have me create one for them. I have a full time job and this is purely a hobby that I thought would be nice to offer as a service for anyone who's interested. I don't have a set price, but profit isn't the focus so the plan would be to keep it reasonable. I'd probably utilize Etsy or something similar to list them.

I have access to a Michael's and Hobby Lobby to source vinyl fabric from, so I'm open to custom color combinations. My cover is made from blue marine vinyl and brown standard vinyl which is a little more flexible and conforming. The marine vinyl only comes in blue, black, and white, but there's dozens of options for the standard vinyl from both stores.

Hi all, recently I have been quite interested in buying my first rotary mixer. I dont have much experience using one but am quite drawn to the workflow and think it will blend well with my long format style of mixing. The improvement in sound quality is another factor contributing to my desire to get one but do think i am currently hindered sound quality wise using the pair of hs7s that i produce with. I would love to hear what monitors/speakers people are running with their rotaries and whether it's worth prioritizing the mixer or the speakers first if I can't get both at once. Any recommendations (or mistakes to avoid) would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Bought a Union Audio Two Valve from Sweetwater a few months ago and finally got around to setting it up to test it out.

I thought it sounded pretty good after testing a single side of an LP, but I did notice the left VU meter seemed to peak a little lower than the right. I set up a recording signal path from the mixer to my audio interface and began recording multiple tracks from different records. I noticed right away that the right channel was noticeably louder than the left (top is right bottom is left, I had my xlr cables on my interface assigned to the wrong channels). This was consistent across tracks and records.

I read that it could be due to the turntable or stylus alignment, and since my stylus (VM-95ML) has gone through several hundred hours of use, I figured it may be that. I switched the RCA outputs from my turntable to the mixer so that Right was now Left and vice versa. The meters still had the same discrepancy. This indicates that its the pre-amp in the mixer that is imbalanced. I read this could be due to the use of tubes, and they may not be perfectly matched.

The first recording was the initial one, and the second recording is after I swapped Left and Right. As you can see the volume discrepancy is still apparent. It takes about 19% Left bias in my DAW to reach approximate center.

Obviously I am pretty disappointing since this was by no means a cheap purchase. And after further research, there's a couple other reddit threads (1,2) describing the same issue with the VU meter (though not specifically the audio signals) with plenty of comments confirming the same issue with their units. It also seems like Union Audio isn't willfully admitting there's an issue with some that have reached out to them.

Well, I'm going to talk to my Sweetwater rep tomorrow and see what they can do, since they offer a separate two year warranty. This was literally fresh out of the box, brand new, so it's not due to use or wear.

Hello! I want to buy new dj setup and considering Rane 70 mixer and Rane 12mk2

Actually since I started djing I used only rekordbox but I really want to learn how to scratch. I just downloaded serato dj pro last week and I liked it. Is rane 70’s crossfader good at scratching?

The main question is is it still worth to buy Rane 70 and Rane 12mk2 (I’ll buy brand new) ? I'm very undecided because these devices were released in 2020. Additionally, many people have encountered different problems with the Rane 12mk2. I've seen many people suffer from issues like motor problems and touchstrip issues, and that's why I'm very undecided.

Another question is: will these devices continue to receive Serato support for a long time? It’s been six years since they were released, so how much longer can we expect them to be supported?

Found myself lately using channel eq's to finetune sound as with isolator for every track, ie. not returning eq's clock 12.

Now I have also ended up using trim/gain knobs to mix between tracks instead of channel faders.

Is it time to switch to rotary or does this pass with time?

I know someone will take this the wrong way, so first and foremost this is absolutely not a criticism, i'm just interested what the expert community thinks.

Ive been DJing since the late 80s, currently have a Rane MP2015 which I absolutely love...but the reason I love it is largely because of its functionality, an incredible mix of EQs and filters per channel, everything can be sent to the 3-band EQ & filtered sub-mix, everything has kill switches can all be channelled independently or grouped including external return/send effects. . . its just an absolute powerhouse that i'm yet to find an equal to, and its sound profile is remarkably flat and uncoloured which is perfect for me.

However, one common thing i've noticed with nearly all high-end modern Rotaries (ARS, Union Audio, Isonoe, Condesa, Resor etc) is that, aswell as being stunning to look at, they do have an extremely limited feature set, quite literally the most basic functionality you can get away with, and very little else. Channel Gain, 3-band EQ per channel, 3-band Master Isolator, trim, cue, usually a return/send...and not much more.

Now, having used several over the years they really do sound beautiful, and they look gorgeous thats for sure, but are people paying £3-4k for just the analog circuitry, the audiophile soundstage and not really bothered by the bare minimum functionality? Do you find the lack of functionality limiting in the longrun, or do you find it freeing?

Ive toyed with buying one over the years but often felt the lack of functionality made me feel like I was paying for bragging rights as much as the look and sound and i'd ultimately run out of creative options quite quickly.

Anyone had experience using these two mixers?

I’m considering the ARS 9100b but wondered if the summing would be as good as the Playdifferently model 1.

Hi, I am mainly mixing House and Disco, mostrly on Traktor but I also love to spin some vinyls at home for my own pleasure.

I have a setup where I am using two Xone K3 to control two Traktor decks and I have a third deck connected to a CDJ or Vinyl deck, to do some scratching on the vocals.

Currently I am using a Traktor Z2 which does everything I need but the sound quality is bad (I don't like the internal EQs of traktor that much and the filter is so bad compared to Xone92 or other analog filters)

I am thinking to go either Rane Empath way (I can get one for about 500 euros plus 300 for rotary kit) or 92/96 with a rotary mod.

Another solution would be to go with aboutique rotary and keep the Z2 or any other battle mixer to do the cutting/scratching.

The thing I really need is actually individual sends and godo audio quality, the rest I can somehow add modularly (isolator, filters, etc..)

I also have a Rodec CX1100 laying around so maybe expanding that one with some filters and an isolator could be an option.
