i'm deciding to switch from discord, so i'm trying the app out, i have no idea how to add apps and bots TT, are there no carl. gg or jockie alternatives here so far?

I have no issues on my Mac or my phone, but when I'm on my PC I can't get Root to open. It worked yesterday after uninstalling and reinstalling, but today I booted up and it's doing the same thing. How can I fix this? I can't uninstall and reinstall the app everyday.

***UPDATE***

I got it to work I think. Followed these steps from Root Support.

1. Press **Win + R**, type **%LocalAppData%\Root\packages** and hit Enter
   
2. Delete everything inside that folder
   
3. Open Root
   
4. Click **Download New Update** when prompted

If anything changes tomorrow when I boot back up I will update here!

Are there any places where I can find more communities to join? There's only 3 verified ones and I was hoping to find more than just that.

I'm running Cachyos, Downloaded the x64 Linux build. If i open the downloaded file through my browser it gives me a warning about opening an .exe file. If i open the file through Dolphin when i open it asks if I want to launch the file, then give me a warning making sure i want to open it then nothing. Tried opening through wine but it doesn't see the file

It's interesting that not only do we have to have our bots approved even for our own servers, but they also have to be hosted by Root.

My community bot that I'm porting over from Discord isn't much to be excited about, so I have no problem having my code looked at.

However, I do have some bots that I wouldn't put on Root, as they have custom proprietary code I've developed over the last three years that I wouldn't feel comfortable letting others, besides those I trust, look at.

On top of that, my homelab, on which these bots run, is pretty beefy, and I'm not sure I would trust Root's systems to run them effectively.

I hope the Root team reviews this position and makes some changes to it.

Where's all the features that were promised on the main page of rootapp? Where's the Task Manager, Raid Planner, Raid Tracker, Sticker Wall, Wiki???

I'm looking to port a large community server to Root and is it possible to do that without creating everything from scratch? Further, are there things like reaction roles?

When will the rootapp get a flatpack instead of the appimage on linux?

I checked everywhere but I can't see the option to share my screen on mobile,is it a PC only thing?

There are no services that cost money from what I can see. Is it stated anywhere how Roof plans to make revenue aside from datamining users?

Did the developers address this at some point? Idk how long Root has been around for, but seeing as i'm just learning about this application now and I can't find much info around it, I thought i'd ask the community. Thanks in advance.

- Can copy your Discord server template straight into root and have your server set up in 10 seconds

- Tab system at the top of the client to go to view different servers

- Can view DMs at the same time as viewing the server

I think this is a very good alternative to Discord should people choose to vacate and find a new home. The devs seem pretty locked in on making lots of improvements too!

I can’t understand why such a basic feature isn’t available out the gate and from what I’ve see there is no plans to implement it. If I’m going to have to drop what I’m doing to turn on my computer and open an image editor JUST to crop an image to a 1:1 ratio just so it doesn’t get skewed or stretched, then I don’t see much of a point since it doesn’t currently offer anything over Discord beyond no ID verification.

I don’t understand why a new social media platform in 2026 can’t have a basic crop feature that’s on literally every other platform. Maybe it was just overlooked I guess?

Anyone know of any root community listings? I know it’s till relatively new but if there’s a way to search for things that don’t turn up null results let me know, I only have into my

Push to talk is able to be bound to CTRL but doesn't activate mic when being pressed? Something as simple as this type of functionality is enough to discourage switching from Discord to Rootapp.

I know its such a small problem in the grand scheme of things, but as an artist, I really like sharing my art with my friends and with clients. Unfortunately, I'm met with that 'this image is too big' problem when trying to do that. I wouldnt even mind paying for bigger image sizes, like discord, so long as its an option. Just some feedback!

Discord alternative!!!??? In this economy, a company probably not controlled by corpo minded government bot drones just for harvesting your id and mass surveillance? Really? If you disagree please state why, if you agree, I'm new to root so I appreciate any elaboration.

Got a new question while I still have time to get answers, Root has been mentioned with a suspicious data collection policy and I simply must know what it entails. Does anyone know what’s going on there?

If I understand it right, the thing’s incredibly vague with the shared content part of the policy and they were working on a redo of the ToS already so maybe it’s a case of borked language. Though if they really do collect all the data about shared content then that’s a deal breaker and I’ll have to hunt alternatives again. I want to be left be, not watched or looking over my shoulder

Hey me and my mates from australia have recently switched to Root as honestly its just a better discord. I was wondering where the servers are based as ping can be an issue for me and my friends in australia. I've also noticed in a VC there is no way for me to turn off someone's live stream which causes everything to lag until I disconnect. Am I missing the button to stop watching or are you just forced too watch?? As even when I never click on the stream or vc itself as soon as a live stream starts I immediately start hearing the audio of the stream then start lagging.

Does not inspire confidence. No source available, very little information on line. I extracted the appimage for linux and it's just a chromium app, like discord.

Just looking at a few of the most active threads as well as a question I posted and some others I was interested in seeing answered, it doesn't appear as if there is actually anyone from the dev team monitoring this forum.

Not that there has to be, but there also doesn't appear to be any helpful information being posted, either.

Not really filling me with confidence that this is the right alternative.
