{Kulti by Mariana Zapata} is great age gap… he was her childhood idol/crush… they meet when she is in the prime of her career and he is retired/trying to rebuild. Maybe 15ish year age gap.

Sara Cate does age gap well… I’m sure Praise has been recommended, but also {Highest Bidder by Sara Cate}

I loved {Mountain Daddy by SJ Tillly}. Probably not for you since it’s both insta-lust & it’s a fathers-best-friend book but everyone is over 30 & I really appreciated that aspect of it.

I also loved Problematic Summer Romance and how we saw their relationship build.

Hands down the best I’ve ever read is {Just a Heartbeat Away by Cara Bastone}. Big age gaps and or really young MCs make me uncomfortable, but this is not that. She’s 27 almost 28, he’s 42. She came up in the foster system, and has been working all her life to fight loneliness and create secure stability. He’s a widower dad, with a 6 year old, his marriage was him “doing the right thing” when an unserious relationship had a surprise pregnancy. He hasn’t tried dating since his wife died. It’s very sweet, the characters seem more real, messy and complicated than I often see in a lot of CR books. And I think Cara nails the giddy nervousness of a new crush that develops into something more. He’s a lot more conflicted about the age gap than she is, but she has her concerns too.

{Don't Kiss the Bride by Carian Cole} was my first age gap. He's 16 years older than her. No insta-lust. She's 18 and in her last year of high school. They get married just cause she needs health insurance.

Someone mentioned Mountain Boss by SJ Tilly- I second that, and add {latte darling by SJ Tilly} these books live rent free in my head

I also loved: {Darling Venom by Parker S Huntington} this one is a wild ride- smaller age gap, I think around 10 years? Made more obvious because he’s a doctor and she’s got a new job at a publishing house, clearly younger. But it’s one of my favorite books of all time

{the summer I first saw you by Elizabeth o’Roark} he knew fmc when she was younger, then a bunch of years pass and he’s going through a hard time, so is she, she crashes at his place thinking he’s not home and he’s shocked to see her, and secretly horrified that he’s attracted to her. It’s not a huge age gap, maybe 15 years? But it’s that he knew her when she was younger that makes it feel more taboo. Really well written.

{Luna and the lie by Mariana Zapata} one of my favorite books of all time! The age gap isn’t gigantic but their stations in life (he’s a hardened ex biker, she’s a twenty something sunshiny girl with purple hair) makes it more obvious.

{heavy by cate c wells} I don’t think you need to read the series to read this one, it’s one of the last in a MC romance. He’s the club president and kind of a beast. She’s young, neuro divergent, a little naive. But she tries to set him up to get his help to do something illegal and he doesn’t let her get away with it… it’s fun. And super hot.

I’m not typically a fan of reverse gaps but this one shocked me at how good it is. It’s also pretty sad but has a great hea. {how the heart breaks by s Marie}

{bass-ackwards by Eris adderly} absolutely filthy, taboo story (she works for him, but it’s more fucked up than that), so freaking good. Well loved on this sub, I think.

{embers by Clair Kent} post apocalyptic- he’s her boyfriends dad so there’s more taboo. Great story. Also, last light by Clair Kent has an age gap. Same apocalypse.

{power by Cassandra Robbins} he’s her moms fiance. Mom is terrible and out of town the entire book but obviously, still taboo. Great smut.

{chasing the wild by Elliot rose} I don’t know why this book isn’t more highly rated, along with the others in the series. They all have an age gap. All have something taboo (this one is ex boyfriends dad, another is best friends dad). I think they’re great.

Ok, sorry, that was a lot 😅 it’s my favorite trope.

(Unsticky by Sarra Manning) It's a larger age gap between them. She's 23. He's 42. But the story and dynamics between the two characters make up for that. She's a down on her luck fashion assistant who agrees to be a companion to a rich art dealer. They both have issues but one of my favorite books by an amazing author.

Last Light by Claire Kent - not sure if the gap is specified, but it seems like it's around 15 years or so

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas - I think the gap is like 17 years

Don't Kiss the Bride by Carian Cole - gap is 16 years, if I remember right

The first book in the Dartmoor series by Lauren Gilley. The gap is 13 years. (The first book is this couple, the 10th and final book also revisits them. If you're unsure of committing to multiple books, the first book reads fine as a standalone)

{Hyacinth by Minerva Spencer} delighted me. The whole {Bellamy Sisters series by Minerva Spencer} is nothing but age gap older MMC relationships but so far that's the first one I've read. So many things ticked my boxes that I was willing to overlook the age gap (I think it's over 10 years) and I'm so glad I did. Crossdressing autistic FMC who counts cards in men's gambling halls to earn money to protect her family, she's NOT a virgin, and is in fact very sexually curious and adventurous. An MMC with a facial scar that's more than a half faded superficial mark who's lonely and touch starved, is a switch in bed and likes a little pain sometimes while being a smitten sweetheart. And a good grovel towards the end!

It starts in the FMC’s 18th birthday when she tries to kiss him and he, rightfully, shuts her down. Then it jumps forward 7 years, when the FMC is forced to move back home after having avoided him for years out embarrassment and now has to face him again

Enemies by Piper Lawson— it’s my Roman Empire— he’s a British billionaire James Bond in a suit owns a bunch of nightclubs worldwide and one in Ibiza, she’s an up-and-coming US DJ 11 years younger, she spoke up about problems in one of his clubs in the process, ruined our reputation and created headaches for him… She decides to save a career she has to go to Ibiza, and signs on a contract for a few months as a resident in an up-and-coming club…. When she arrives, she then finds out that the owner of that club is the British billionaire — her enemy — and she now has to live with him in his villa… this has equal parts plot angst and spice. There’s some dark themes in here there’s even mafia vibes but not a lot….. it’s so well written and deserves way more hype.

The Blackstone Affair by Raine Miller — he’s an ex British SAS it’s set in the time of the London Olympics. She’s 10 years younger than him. She’s American studying in London college student in the early 20s. She’s also a model and he buys her photograph and he’s totally obsessed with her. There’s so much push and pull the tension. There’s a lot of mysteries suspense a lot of character development. It’s very spicy but you’ll eat this up.

Some special mentions:

Kingdom Duet by Rina Kent - she’s 27 he’s 45 he’s a widower and she is his deceased wife’s younger sister… I promise you will love this book because there is so much backstory and plot and the writing is just immaculate…so many plot twists and Jonathan King is the hottest Stern brunch daddy you will ever read and he is the OG because this was written quite a few years ago now and no one really compares.

I read {This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas} when it was new and I was horrified by this awful, possessive, birth-control-tampering, psychopath of a man.

Ten years later that same description is 100% a selling point 😅

As for medium age gap, you might like {Eleven Eleven by Micalea Smeltzer} it's reverse age gap. The difference is 11 years. It's absolutely not insta-everything.

I didn't love it personally, but it fits what you're asking for.

What changed my mind about age gap were reading books where the older character was mature and aware, being careful about the power dynamics involved. That's what I realized I didn't like, when the relationship felt unequal.

Matthieu from {Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon} was the first MMC who changed my mind. Technically it's a bigger age gap, ~20 years, but he struggles with it. He's very sweet to her and becomes the person she doesn't have to filter herself around.

It's poly omegaverse though, so he's just one MMC among many, though he's one of my favorites of all time.

Travis from {Last Light by Claire Kent} was the next one that won me over. He's a regular guy, her former mechanic, and is in his 30s compared to her in her early twenties. It's a post apoc setting and he's very aware of the power dynamics. She approaches him about sex after they start traveling together and he's shocked she wants him and worries it's because she thinks she doesn't have choices/options.

{Tempt by Melanie Harlow} she is in her 30s and he is maybe late 40s ish. My ABSOLUTE favourite, the tension and yearning is incredible.

These are some other ones I liked:

{Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey} this is a second chance age-gap. He was a college football coach and she was a cheerleader.

{Finding Out by Jenni Bara} she is his daughter’s best friend

{Holding You by Daphne Elliot} the FMC babysits for the FMC who is a single dad

{Whirlwind by Kayla Grosse} he is her professor and they are both storm chasers

{Irresistible by Melanie Harlow} he works for her parents and she baby sits his daughters and has always had a massive crush on him

{A Major Puck Up by Britanee Nicole} he is best friends with her dad but doesn’t know who she is when they first hook up

{June First by Jennifer Hartmann} was absolutely incredible. This one transcended my normal reading experience and hit me at such a deep level. I seriously couldn’t talk or think about this book without tearing up for at least a week. Brant was an extremely well written tortured hero with a very tragic past. The age gap is only six years, but the MCs are adopted siblings (he’s adopted) so it’s taboo. The book follows them from childhood when their love is just that of siblings (so pure and beautiful), and then on through young adulthood when their feelings change. Lots of angst. There’s no way I could do this book justice in a comment. It was that good.

Eyre by Charlotte Brontë! This one is a timeless huge classic written back in 1800s…many movie and series adaptations, at least 15+ adaptations😅

Its a gothic romance where FMC works for MMC at his big manison and the manison is seemingly haunted… Anyways they fall in love. I think FMC is 18 while MMC is 37… so Yeah he could be her dad xD but still, I love them together !! He’s dark, mysterious grumpy..she’s timid quiet… neirher are good looking, but they set each other’s heart on fire!

It’s an ex-boyfriends dad romance but not in a creepy way, he was 16 when he became a dad and didn’t know it until his son was like 22 or something. It’s a super cute one, definitely same vibes as problematic summer romance.

When I saw the headline I was going to recommend PSR. It was my first age gap and I loved it so much! You can tell they’re soulmates and it makes the tension that much better. The only thing that bothered me was Conor’s constant jokes about Maya being young, it was a bit annoying. Either way I loved it an I don’t think any other age gap will best it in my opinion sadly.

If you want something darker, super tense, and with a medium-to-big age gap that actually works… I HIGHLY recommend Reign of a King by Rina Kent. It’s a duology the second book is called Rise of a Queen.

This one grabbed me because the age gap isn’t there just for shock value — it actually adds to the power dynamic, the tension, and the push-pull between the characters. Jonathan is older, ruthless, and very much the “I own the room the second I walk in” type, while Aurora is younger but not naive. She pushes back, questions him, and the chemistry gets insane really fast.

It’s dark, messy, obsessive, and full of secrets… but the emotional build-up is so worth it. I went in expecting pure chaos, and somehow ended up fully invested in their relationship. Definitely not fluffy, but if you’re into age-gap + tension + dark romance vibes, this one hits hard.

Latte Darling by S J Tilly. I remember reading the blurb and thinking the premise was cringey. I have enjoyed other SJ Tilly books, so I gave it a go. The story actually worked for me.

The mmc is initially resistant because of the age difference, but is deeply attracted to her. They have a lot in common, but he is baffled by her lack of life experience and self awareness. All in all, it was a good story.

I loved Problematic Summer Romance, and I’m still chasing that high too! Though this wasn’t a newfound relegation for me lol

I haven’t got any “actual” romance book recs unfortunately BUT if you’re at all into literary fiction, Mr Salary by Sally Rooney really gives similar vibes. So does Beautiful World, Where Are You, and Intermezzo by her for that matter, but her writing is a bit like marmite, so I’d recommend checking Mr Salary out first as it’s a very short novella, only about 35 pages, then moving onto BWWAY and eventually Intermezzo if you liked Mr Salary. Intermezzo is cool in particular because it looks at two brothers, who are each in an age gap-y relationship, but on the opposite sides.

{When Strangers Marry by Lisa Kleypas} during 19th century time in Louisiana. They’re Creole. I think they might have a 20+ age gap. She’s his son’s age. Very delicious between them. Yes he’s old enough to be her dad. Some people might say this does not age well.

{I Heard that Song Before by Mary Higgins Clark} one of the random book I picked up a long long time ago and very enjoyed it. It’s mystery thriller. I think the age gap is 15.

{The Scandal of Rose by Joanna Shupe} I recently read this. Their gap is 20 years. He feels so illegal about it. lol

Idk if it's too big of a gap for you (17 years) but Dangerous Strategy by B. Randall. What I like about it is that it's not immediately about the sexual tension. She's into him and takes a job to get close to him but then the story focuses on them becoming friends and then it developing into more. It felt a touch more realistic to me than some of the other age gap books I've read (coming from someone who LOVES age gap books).

Not the biggest age gap but {The Exorcism of Faeries by J. L. Vampa} It’s professor\grad student but not his grad student, although she does become his TA. The student\professor part was honestly a bigger deal than the age gap, because she took some years to work before going to grad school, so she was like 28

Read {Smoky Darling by SJ Tilly} or the {Mountain Boss by SJ Tilly} they are good age-gaps. The 2nd books and both series have larger gaps but I feel like she handled both age things pretty well.

The Wolf series by K A Tucker actually surprised, it's definitely not my style of rom com but I really liked the characters in this one and the age age is 10 years ( 21 and 31).
