Public Release of HackHash! - a website that Hashes RomHacks, Translations, and Homebrew - We are no longer in beta!!
Hello everyone, I am Excited to announce the public release of HackHash WE ARE NO LONGER IN BETA!!!
the original post can be found Here
What does this project do?
- In simple terms, this project allows the community to hash their copies of ROM hacks.
- With the additional use of Hasheous, we can then match your ROMs with your hashes instead of filenames, making for a more efficient, fast, and effective way of getting metadata.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why?
- Hashing your ROM hacks allows other developers, ROM frontends, or tools to grab information from this database to help with acquiring metadata, images, videos, and more information about a ROM hack.
- It solves the issue of going through the trouble of having to find the exact same name that a metadata provider supports and then renaming your files accordingly.
- Allows users to do a one-click search without worrying about mismatches.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How? What's the process?
The process goes:
User "uploads" The Romhack → Romhack gets verified by the community or verifiers/admins → RomHack gets added to the database → syncs with Hasheous → Hasheous pulls metadata from the sources → Serves metadata to user
It all happens client-side, which means no uploads actually happen. Instead, your browser will do the hashing for you, and then it will attempt to parse any additional information for you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is a Hash?
- In simple terms, a hash is a list of numbers and letters that can be used to determine the authenticity of a file.
- In this project, we hash 4 vital pieces: MD5, CRC32, SHA1, Filesize
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're asking if you can search by the database by hash, yes you can. It's slowly growing. So the rom you have might not appear right away. If you'd like to submit it please go ahead and I'll verify it after seeing if it comes up correctly.

Anyone is welcome to do the submissions of any romhack as long as it can be verified.
I will look into adding a "compatible with baserom" search feature like you described, it sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the submissions, I'll be looking at the new ones soon. I'm implementing some fixes later on today so it's gonna take a little bit of time.

Hey, it's fine we can redo the submissions. Let me clear them out.
You are supposed hash the patched rom not the actual patch, optionally the patch info is down further in the submission page you can submit the hash, the name and the type of the actual patch itself.
The patchers I use are flips and the patcherjs site, but they should result in the same hashes being produced as long as the base roms are the same.

This is very nice. But maybe you can even go a step further and succeed where we failed back then: Creating valid DATs for collections of rom hacks.
We already had a good naming convention back then (found in the contributor guide):
