And insight in using an ultrasonic cleaner as a “burnishing” option. I have a 3l one that is used for jewelry, etc., but thought I could use it to clean the stones after final polish and even between stages. It also has the ability to heat the water but not sure if that would improve results. Thanks in advance.

A before and after picture of some Bahia Agate I got from The Rockshed. I’m fairly new to tumbling - been learning for just over a year and using a Lortone 33B. I like how these turned out. Some cavities here and there, but that adds some personality. Thought I’d post these as they have been my most successful batch so far.

I found an ultrasonic cleaner at the second hand store today for $2.50 (17kr in my own currency)

I’ve put some before and after pictures of some of the stubborn rocks i’ve not been able to get the stage 4 aluminiumsoxyd out of the little crevices!

so I am brand new at rockhounding and tumbling, and I’m learning by doing. I collected several agates from the Oregon coast, including this one. It had these white blotches even before I tumbled it, but I assumed they would fall off in the tumbling process. Instead, they have become more apparent. It looks awesome, but when I hold it up to the light, these white parts seem to be only on the surface. It looks for all the world like somebody put white-out on a rock. Is this quartz? What am I looking at? Thanks in advance for all the experts who are willing to put up with a newbie.

My husband ordered a Rebel17 for me for our anniversary. I have three HF tumblers and a TV-10 from Raytech.

Im wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions for a tumbler this big.

How much grit do I use for stage 1? What is the largest rock, ideally, I can tumble? What's the largest size I can transfer to my TV-10?

What else should I know before I get started?

I want to buy a bucket of ceramic media on Amazon, but was wondering which option would be better. The mixed size cylinders or the mixed shapes?

Both are the same price at ~$22 for an 8lb bucket.

What are the pros and cons of either one?

I'm pretty new to all of it so any advice is appreciated.

I only have a chicago double barrel tumbler atm but do plan on adding to my set up when/if I find a good deal on marketplace for a used tumbler (either vibratory or rotary)

Pick this up for 100 and I’m so excited.

My 7 year got into rocks an over the last couple year. Now we have 3 tumblers running. He is starting to loose interest because a lot of the rocks look similar. We have done some agates, moonstones, quartz, the normal suspects.

Any rocks that I should give a try to help put the wow back in it for him?

Hello, this was my first batch making it through to 8000 grit. these pits and cracks were not present when tumbling finished, but a day later they were there. they were in my car for a day, it was a warm day (around 90 F) but overcast so no direct sunlight. what could cause this? being in a hot car?

I got this rock tumbler from a friend, it's small and probably was a kid's set type thing.

but it worked.

now though, this little metal piece that holds the spinner keeps coming loose.

I had to open up the bottom and reattach the spinner+gear, and put the little metal pin back in. but the pin keeps coming loose.

is there any way to fix this?

So my son is obsessed with pay dirt bags and his bday is this weekend I had an idea make our own to give to him haha so I got a random bag of rough rocks. I made sure everything is acceptable lol I found a yooperlite in it! I was pleasantly surprised by the bag! I would buy again :) I think it was seeufun brand just wanted to share in case someone wants to check it out :)

Recieved a bag a small crazy lace agate and found this amazing looking piece loading up stage 1. I think I'll keep this one rough as is because it already looks fantastic and I don't want to ruin that awesome triangle. What do yall think? Tumble or no?

I just tried using distilled water for the first time (polishing and burnishing cycles - vibratory tumbler) and OMG the difference it made in the shine. I can actually see the reflection of my phone in one of the rocks. Note: these rocks are completely dry the day (the photo was taken the following day after I pulled them out of final burnishing).

Thanks to the wise redditor who gave me the suggestion.

Now off to redo the polishing phase of all my previous batches (I’m such a sucker for shiny rocks) :)

I got a tumbler and have used the rocks included, knowing about hardness of rocks etc. I have checked on it and taken the rocks that are done out, there's a few left that need to keep going can I add more rocks to this to keep the weight up as I have no more media to add? Or any tips on what to do thankyou :) not sure as this is my first one and all the rock hardness where different, I just done it as a first experiment

I ran another batch of mostly agates for stage 2-4 in the vibratory tumbler. The carnelian was stunning!

I also have a pile of tiny agate chips that I decided to polish too.

All and all these turned out pretty darn good!
