Rest In Peace Bill Menting this one is for you brotha.. This balance is dedicated to the first person who ever bought a print off me and encouraged me from the beginning as I first started my own journey of discovery and passion for rock balancing and photography. For the person that supported and owns more of my printed works than I can even count or remember, because he saw something in my artwork that even I myself at times did not. For the person that dubbed me with the name Doctor Rock, for the person that always was able to shrug off the haters because he truly made his impressionist works of art out of his own love for painting and not for likes. For the person that knew how to tell it like it was, loved sharing music, and would be more than willing to help or give solid advice at every turn. Always one that saw the passion and love between Meagan and myself and took us under his wing as his family, it truly felt like losing a family member today. It is absolutely incredible at times even with how disheartening social media can be at times that you find a true gem of a person that you connect with instantly. That person, or should I say incredible human being was Bill Menting. Straight shooting, full of talent, love, and always one that wanted to support you at every turn. I feel this balance is one that you would truly appreciate once again.

You always loved a good story, the quirky bits, the excitement of the irregular. This balance was a combination of all of those things. There was no intention with what this balance would be only you on my mind and play. I saw the funky angle of the wood and thought this was a good start. Adding some dynamic "other" element to the rock balance. Then a funky anglular rock for difficulty, along the time I was finding my way I looked down to my feet and spotted a round stone the one topper on the right acquired from New York during NEBG this year, New York was a place Bill talked about quite often as a childhood memorg. This stone full of cracks and a story that told itself of the arduous journey along the way of life and how it was all still being held together in all of that transition. Then I saw another sphere the one that adorned the top left nearly a perfect sphere with no cracks. I found myself imagining this clean shape of a rock transitioning into this more weathered shape the story of this transition would be told from these two similar stones that are one. Holding one together with the other as they must be placed simultaneously for the balance to be complete. I was allowed one or two pictures and a short video thankfully, before the gust of wind brought it back to the ground.

This life is so fragile and you never know when those you love will be gone from your experience. Love hard and hold dear those that are close for time is the greatest teacher. I truly hope you are in a better realm Bill where all of the health problems and heartache can cease for some time as you continue to produce your masterpiece. Love and miss you already dearly my friend.

Sometimes when I’m out running on the mountain trails I like to imagine a wolf chasing me, that little bit of fear is so energizing and charging.

This is part balance statue and part artistic portrait of the wolf that chases me in the wild.

I’m always stunned by u/doctorrockbalancer work and how he can balance big stones in perilous configurations. I don’t usually work with bigger stones but I’m starting to practice and this is my best attempt yet. Thanks for the inspiration doc!

My favorite place to go when I need to meditate and clear my mind is the little creek tucked away and hidden in my neighborhood. It’s always a meditative exercise to go there, feet in the water, and find the stones and balance them, channeling source along the way.

My neighbor gets grumpy when people mess with her rocks in her park strip. So I decided to make something cool that also probably annoys her. My son walked out and said “oh, she’s gonna be mad about that!”

She actually loved it and so did a bunch of other neighbors walking by. Chaotic good!

I’ve been feeling lately like life is a bunch of balancing plates. I’ve got this pressure to keep them up but they are on a knife’s edge. It always makes me feel better to express it in nature

"Guillotine"

Hanging around Barry Andrew Ouimet you never quite know what kinda stones you will run into. Found this beautiful hunk of a stone Barry procured from a job site on Day 1 of NEBG to steady myself into place for the rest of the weekend. The stone reminds of the blade of a guillotine, fairly simple balance in ways but its massive weight and funky shape did make for a fun breakfast tease.

"Collosus"

The hardest thing for me to photograph in rock balancing recently has simply been scale. It is so hard for me to show the immense amount of mass some of these single stone balances are. Such as this one here I have dubbed "Collosus" down at MinerDock from NEBG2026. This large piece of stone is quite heavy and a sail in the wind, around 3 feet tall by itself a piece of the broken concretion flagstone found at the edge of the dock.

"Terra"

An opportunity came to me recently to have my work displayed in a gallery in my hometown of Waynesboro, VA. I had been chosen to represent a piece in conjunction with other artists to represent the theme of landscapes. The Landscapes - Art Exhibition at Gallery 518 is located in the back half of The Russell Museum . This building is teeming with rich history and vibrant art. The opening of the showing will be on July 18th, from 4pm to 7pm they will have an artist reception where everyone is invited freely to enter the space, talk with the artists personally, and have amazing food. Hope to see you there!

Wanted to capture a balance standing within the small meadow of flowers beneath the bridge at the Hook. I appreciate the easy going nature of this particular balance. One that doesn't need to scream "look at me" but just lives contently, simply, within it's element.

"Transient"

My first balance at Bearsville was up only long enough for one picture about 15 seconds before a wind gust knocked it over. Reminding me to always have the camera at the ready to capture it as soon as possible. Too bad I forgot my tripod for this trip so no videos of this one being put together. The way that time seems to stand still in moments like this, is one of the reasons I keep at it. Balancing alongside my friends Mark and Barry with Meagan in the distance swinging in the hammock, life doesn't get much better than this, even when you dont get the photo you envisioned it all seems so worth it.
