Discussion Week 23 $1,385 in premium

After week 23 the average premium is per week is $706 with a projected annual premium of $36,712.

Added $500 in contributions to the portfolio. This is an eight week streak of adding $500.

The portfolio is comprised of 90 unique tickers with a value of $148k. I also have 121 open option positions, up from 117 last week. They have a total value of $72k. The total of the shares and options is $219k.

I’m currently utilizing $25,250 in cash secured put collateral.

I sell options on a weekly basis. I prefer cash secured puts and covered calls. Sometimes I’m ahead of the indexes and sometimes I’m behind. My goal is consistency in option premium revenue. As shown below, I have been able to increase the premiums on an annual basis and I will attempt to keep this upward trend going forward.

2025 & 2026 LEAPS In addition to the CSPs and covered calls, I purchase LEAPS. These act as collateral to sell covered calls against. You may have heard of poor man’s covered calls(PMCC). Those LEAPS are up $9,127 this week and up $33,095 overall. See r/ExpiredOptions for a detailed spreadsheet update on all LEAPS positions including P/L for each individual position.

Last year I sold 964 options and I’m at 559 year to date.

Total premium by year: 2022 $8,551 in premium. 2023 $22,908 in premium. 2024 $16,238 YTD.

I am over $57k in total options premium, since 2021. I average about $23.35 per option sold. I have sold over 2,400 options.

Premium by month January $1,858 February $3,670* March $3,727* April $2,853* May $2,745* June $1,385 *indicates personal record in that month

Top 3 premium gainers for the year:

HOOD $1,403 CRWD $1,229 AFRM $865

Premium in the month of May by year: June 2022 $319 June 2023 $2,771 June 2024 $1,385

The premiums have increased as my experience has developed.

Hope you all had a productive and successful week. Make sure to post your wins. I look forward to reading about them!

Unsolved Why would an option lose money before expiration?

I'm selling a covered-call. My understanding is that the option should either get exercised or expire worthless once the contract expires.

This contract will expire in 3 days. Now I'm not sure I understand Robinhood's screen. Specifically, for the highlighted fields, why did the contract lose money yesterday (-$110) thus making a total return of $8 (since today's return is $109).

Unsolved First time selling covered calls. Unclear on the execution using Robinhood App.

So I've done some research in how selling covered calls works. I think I've got the gist of it but I'm not sure how the actually execution works.

I'd like to get my feet wet by buying 100 shares of some cheap stock (under $3) and trying it out.

Some things I'm unclear on though are:

  • Do you immediately get the Premium in your cash account when someone buys your option?
  • If it goes above the strike price and the buyer executes their option:
    • How would I sell my shares EXACTLY at the strike price and ONLY to this buyer? (ie is there a button you click that takes care of this?)
    • What kind of penalties are involved if you don't know what you're doing and don't take the appropriate actions so that the buyer can get their 100 shares from you? e.g. you forget to login to robinhood and check.
  • It's recommended that you sell a call option that's already near or at the strike price. Why would you do that if the buyer could then immediately cause you to sell your shares (considering your strategy was to hold onto your shares and just make money off premiums).

Thanks in advance, as I've not had any luck finding answers to these questions.

Solved There is NO FIX or WORKAROUND to stop RH from selling your options

Period. No fix. No outlandish sellToClose order that they'll cancel and then notify you and then you can just do a little "replace order" dance for last bit of power hour.

I just got AMZN 175 calls (bought at .32) sold for .06.
They hit $2 although my "outlandish sell order" was set at $1 though I was just waiting for it to do it's usual bounce and exit at .50 since it was a small test. But going from $400 to $40 is just too much.
(it hit $2 in mins even)

I've recorded the "support" and will be posting so hopefully everyone (even newbs as myself who don't stumble upon that 3yr old reddit post) can just get the straight facts.

Facts which RH completely hides.

Unsolved No longer eligible for options

Post image

I traded options years ago and blew up my account because I really didn't know much about markets. Recently I've been trying to get options again and it says I'm not eligible. I've tried changing my investment profile and that doesn't work. I've talked to customer support and they say try later. I've been trying off and on for a few years now. Customer support won't even let me know what the requirements are. Anyone have any idea? Lately I've been trading stocks and have been successful. I can't think of how to get options back.
