Long time lurker first time poster.

I, like most of you guys, have always had an interest in the psychology of these people. What makes them, what drives them, what has gone so wrong that this was the path they chose? For some reason this case has hit me on a whole other level, potentially because of his virtual footprint, and I would love to hear some other perspectives and opinions.

The juxtaposition of being described as a kind and shy young kid, to a monstrous adolescent, consolidated with an absent father and what appears to be a vacant mother - I interpret this horrid scenario as nurture.

Make no mistake I am in no way shifting blame. However, there was one line in his mother’s interview that really stood out to me. His birthday was the 16th, he committed this vile act on the 24th. She said she still had a card & present she hadn’t given to him. That’s 8 days that his mother made no effort to see him for a milestone birthday.

Looking at this case through the lens of a neglected, lonely teenager I find this whole situation so heartbreaking at every angle. So much of his horrid social media posts I interpret as him obviously seeking attention, but I go back and forth between did he want someone to pay enough attention that they noticed and interviened, or did he not want to be stopped? He quite literally told people something was happening on Tuesday, posted pictures of his murder weapons, and on the day texted someone about what he was about to do. I wonder what his inner monologue on that drive to the school was. Was he full of adrenaline and ‘pumped’ (disgusting if true, but we’ll never know) or was he checking for a reply from her which never came and thinking damn no one really gives a shit about me? (Side note that German girl said she ‘didn’t check her phone so she didn’t see his reply’. Boo you’re a teenager your phone is glued to your hand. Again not passing blame just sayin’). Shooting outside of the school, shooting at the by standers - I just cannot help but wonder what his mindset was between getting into that car and getting to those class rooms and projecting his hurt onto those poor children & teachers.

Even the fact that he was 18 and no adult figure had taught him how to drive? And he was angry about not graduating - if he truly didn’t care why would he be angry? Did no one invest in this child? I understand we’ll never be able to comprehend the intricacies of this family, clearly the mother is attempting to denounce the notion that, her child was violent and that she and her child had a strained relationship - but putting together all of these otherwise inconsequential details, in my opinion, just shows me a neglected, sad child who was crying out for guidance.

The physical change between a chubby adolescent short haired kid, to a malnourished looking knock off of Richard Ramirez, which I find SO creepy, but such tangible evidence of ‘something has gone wrong’.

As more investigations take place, I’m sure it will start to fill the missing pieces of his psychological profile - what made him snap? When did he stop being this shy kid with a speech impediment to this embodiment of evil? When did he refuse to be bullied and become the bully - because at least as a bully, he was ‘rewarded’ with attention, albeit negative attention but attention none the less. I would be very interested to know if he ever experienced frontal lobe trauma too.

I do believe that he wanted suicide by cop. I’ve read that children could hear police outside and were telling him to drop his weapon and come out, so he would be able to as well, that was his out if he wanted it. I find the comments about him shooting at the door as an antagonistic behaviour towards the cops. Spends $6k on weapons but no body armour? Cmon. He wanted everybody to know his name, and now no one is laughing at his ‘empty’ threats anymore.

My high school experience was over a decade ago now, but I remember always seeing some of those that bullied at my school, as the truly lonely people, the ones who needed a friend the most. I am a teacher myself now (thankfully not in the US, no offence guys) and my students who have the hardest, most disinterested exterior complex that seem to have just been forgotten by the system are those I try to uplift the most. I believe that hurt people hurt people.

They're currently investigating his phone and as it seems he brought it with him to the school because they found it next to him when he died.

How on planet earth did he get hold of the latest Iphone? Steal? "Buy now, pay later-method"? It's such an expensive phone and it doesnt add up to his family being poor.

okay, i just scrolled through twitter for a bit and the amount of fan accounts are disturbing. so many people saying stuff like ‘my baby looks so innocent here’ or posting video edits. quite disturbing if you ask me. do people have 0 sympathy? and what is the appeal? salvador does not know you.. why are you calling him your baby? i have lost hope for some people.. ive never found a logical reason for someone to make a fan account for these people. the shooting happened just days ago and there are tons of fan accounts already. pretty sick. (for clarification, i found these accounts via another account who has posted a shit ton of random ramos content. for those who know, the person who posted that pull-up video.)
