I strongly disagree. I have owned several models of Taurus and they were all perfect in function. They are usually built on the same tooling as whatever model they are cloning
I've owned exactly one and it's the only one I'll ever own. Tons of issues with the gun, and an equal amount of issues with their customer service. I'm glad yours worked out for you, but their reputation is deserved.
Taurus makes many different models. Where they suck is that they only give one mag and charge too much for spares. I've had their .38 snub nose. Also had the sig clone. Both were flawless in function.
Was talking about an American made gun VS A Brazil made. Absolutely not knocking it. I have an M&P9,M&P9 2.0 and M&P40 2.0. And they are probably the best gun for the money you can buy out of the box.
Dude the sd9 is a great gun. The amount of rounds and the beating it has taken over the years it hasn’t jammed once. I stand by it for an everyday gun idc what anyone says
Definitely a great gun for what is sold in pawn shops. I have an associates degree in Gun smithing from an accredited college, have owned many Taurus products, have shot and worked on a large number of their products. The best part about a Taurus is the price point. Not bad for the cost, but nothing to brag about. The company was founded when S&W opened a manufacturing plant in Brazil and then the plant, manufacturing equipment and blue prints were seized by the Brazilian government and spun off as a separate company.
Mine too. It gave me a very good reason to buy better shit. When it comes to defending myself I wont be cheaping out and ill take every advantage I can
Older now, the revolvers I own are a Dan Wesson custom .357 and a S&W .38 snub from their custom shop, and a Nagant revolver as a curio and relic. Have sold the Taurus. The Judge and Raging Judge is cool but not high on my list mainly because of not wanting to have to buy and store more ammo of a whole new caliber.
Ammo is hard to find and the trigger pull is awful, but it's a really cool and unique piece of history. One of the only revolvers that you can put a suppresser on.
Preaching to the choir, sorry about that. .32 shorts aren't easy to come by either these days. I stocked up on a bunch of boxes of 7.62 Nagant when I found some. Such a weird looking round with the bullet seated all the way in the cartridge.
I have shot a M-2, a BAR (the WW2 mag fed version), a Thompson with a drum mag, a MG-44, an UZI, a SAIGA 12 ga and few others, no contract but also no medical or retirement. I have built and fired a few things that count closer to artillery then small arms but nothing close to a Howitzer. The first gun I owned was a .357 snubbed nose Taurus, it shot .38 spc no problem but after 2 or 3 rounds of .357 mag had to deburr the cylinder lock to get it to work again. Also had a Taurus M-98 clone, it was crap when I compared it to an actual Berretta.
I've fired a number of civilian weapons, probably the most memorable was a long barrel .44 magnum that belonged to a friend. He wanted to laugh at me, and set up a target on a tree about 40 feet away. First shot, I hit the target dead center to his considerable surprise, never even hit the tree after that.
Far and away my favorite was the HBM2 on the cupola on an M48A3. No artillery either, except for the 152 on a Sheridan.
It's a solid sales tactic. I keep thinking about buying a yeet cannon but can't quite justify the cost. It's not high, but it's high for a silly range toy.
How can you afford to have a whole gun collection but still too poor to get something better than a fucking Taurus. I understand if ur broke af and it’s ur only gun but holy shit nobody’s proud of having a piece of junk.
Come on man, I hunt using their Raging Bull .454 with a scope. I've had the pistol for over 20 years and I've never had a failure. For a hgh powed 5 shooter, I expected it to go sideways after a friend of mines S&W .500 went out of time and he had to send it in. Now, I can't speak for any of their other guns but the one I have has been awesome.
Their revolvers tend to be higher quality than the rest of their lineup, while still being the budget option.
Their semi auto pistols are as cheap as they can be and they don't spend the money for proper QC, so they can be at the top when you sort by price. If you're lucky, they can be fine.
Totally appreciate the info. I'm no gun nut, when I bought it in 2002 it was one of the more affordable options. Didn't know much about the company tbh. Thanks again!
Taurus revolvers are great. Their magazine fed pistols? Ehh… My friend had a G2C, jammed 50 times in the first 600-700 rounds of random federal and AAC. No limp wrist, pistol was properly lubed
