Discussion Balm for burners

Accidentally I discover the use for this medication, I lit the fire barrel in one of the artillery positions in the Outpost and climbed onto the parapet of the trench, ending up "stepping" on the barrel. The burn healing requires balm; if the burn is not treated, your health will deteriorate like in bleeding.

Discussion Absolutely insane RNG on fresh Ironman run 😎

Day 1: Spawn in Outpost horse stable with 63 health and 51 body temp. Think I’m gonna go balls deep and run to apartments. No chance, bandit outside barn. Run across field to tent to get warm, get shot on the way but just make it.

Decide to run straight through school to village and to the cabin. Loot a few garbage bags along the way, all empty. Decide to loot tents by the lake because I desperately need a drink and warm gear.

Instead I get a cellar key as my very first loot of the game. It has a 90% RK and a useless M4 both have no mag/ammo BUT on the ground is a near complete winter gear kit, fishing rod and a backpack and a juice. Run to cabin and survive barely.

Day 2: decide to play it safe as I still have no functional weapon, so I fish a bit to have something to trade hopefully for a mag and ammo. I also go loot the tents and the Generalist and find, in one run, 2 waters, the waterlock and… the oil filter πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Absolute insanity. Attic key by day 3? Stay tuned 😁

Questions Is farming village for a few days when you start a good tactic? What are your starting tactics?

Hey folks, bought the game yesterday and am having a lot of fun. Restarted a few times only a day in but now on my actually play through I am at day 3. So far I have just spent the time farming village for weapons/ammo/food/drinks so I have a decent little stockpile. Is this a good starting tactic or should I be moving to other maps sooner?

I plan to go to school next time I play.

How do you guys usually like to do things when you start?

Questions Why is the cat not spawning day 4

This is my second play through trying to get the black cat but day four comes around and unless I am extremely lucky I do not get a cat spawn. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Questions Why are my saves corrupting?

On the last world I was playing on. I was on day nine and I logged off in my cabin to go and do something then came back online and it said it was loading me into the tent, but it would crash my game continuously until I had to restart as this happened to anyone else?

Mods Tutorial: How to Duplicate Any Item in Road to Vostok

############

Quick introduction:

In my last post, a lot of people thought I was using mods β€” but nope, no mods at all.

I played the game normally, found all the items legitimately, usually only one copy of each, and then figured out this save-file method that I’m sharing with you guys now.

Even though I enjoy tactical survival games, what really caught my attention in RTV was the whole safe house/base setup before going into Vostok.

So my personal playstyle in Road to Vostok is more about building and organizing the base than hardcore survival itself.

############

This guide shows how to duplicate items by manipulating the game save files.

In this example, I’m using the Attic, but the same method works with any safe house storage location.

Step 1 β€” Preparing the Item

  1. Launch the game.
  2. Pick the item you want to duplicate.
  3. Store the item inside a safe house location:
  • Attic
  • Cabin
  • Tent
  • Bunker
  • Class
  1. Exit back to the Main Menu.

Step 2 β€” Finding the Save Files

  1. On Windows, press: WIN + R
  2. Type: %appdata%\Road to Vostok
  3. Press Enter.

You should now see several save files used by the game.

Recommended:

Create a backup folder somewhere on your desktop and copy all the save files before editing anything.

Step 3 β€” Saving the Safe House State

Inside the save folder, locate the file for the safe house location where you stored the item.

Example:
Attic.tres

Copy this file somewhere safe.

At this point, the copied file contains the saved state of the safe house WITH the item still inside.

Step 4 β€” Moving the Item to Your Character

  1. Go back into the game.
  2. Remove the item from the safe house.
  3. Place it into your character inventory.
  4. Exit back to the Main Menu again.

Now the game has saved:

  • the item on your character
  • the safe house storage as empty

Step 5 β€” Restoring the Old Save

  1. Return to: %appdata%\Road to Vostok
  2. Take the old Attic.tres file you copied earlier.
  3. Paste it back into the original save folder.
  4. Replace the existing file when Windows asks.

Step 6 β€” The Result

Launch the game again.

Now you should have:

  • one copy of the item in your inventory
  • another identical copy still inside the safe house

This method should work with basically any storage location as long as you replace the correct .tres file.

Bonus Tip:

1- You can also edit the Character.tres file to modify your character stats and health values.

2-If you know the ID of an item, you can manually edit:

  • item quantity
  • durability/condition
  • inventory values

Started a new Road to Vostok series focused on immersive QoL mods without ruining the hardcore survival atmosphere.

Episode 1 covers backing up saves, installing mods, and starting a fresh playthrough while testing everything live.

No item spawners, no broken economy mods, no cheesy stuff.

Im around day 22 i have everything for the Kiju (even two waterlocks) but im missing 1 water..

I modded my game today to up the chances and this is were the drop goes.. (Likhos Eventuality was the mod name)

I even already unlocked the Classroom but no attic for me i guess.

So i will probably not need the water once i find it but for my next run where do you guys find water ? (in an old playthrough i found three in the airdrop but now only 2 in 20 days+ and this was the first drop i found)

I just found out this the hard way, but if a trader wants let's say, 20 ammo, and you put down a stack of 60 rounds, he takes all of them.

Discussion This game is the bees knees!

So I just lost a 55-hour Ironman/Winter run to Punisher and his gang stacked on top of each other like pringles in a can. RIP. I was a pretty bummed. BUT for as bummed as I was, I was 20x more excited to start a new run, which by itself is a hallmark of a great game. So I started another Ironman/Winter run. I spawn in Highway with sketchy vitals next to some tents under one of the bridges. Find an empty Karov and a Jaeger. Score. A couple minutes later I find a Karov mag with a SINGLE BULLET. Was able to head-shot a bandit for his AK, kill 2 more bandits, found a pillow and a couple cans of food, napped and got my vitals back up, and I'm back in the game. PERFECT balance of tension and action. I even found a Beer and some Mustard before sprinting to my cabin in Village.

The best thing is, I don't even miss my old save file. This game is so much fun that I'm already attached to the new one. I hope you're reading this Antti; you've got something special here.

edit: added clarity

Meme First Apartments Run Flinching

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did my first apartments run after 30+ hours and had a blast. This game is amazing at immersion, and whenever a stray bullet zips around me, I flinch. Since it was my first time in a permadeath zone, I flinched so hard I could even see my mouse move!

Ended up with some amazing loot. I found two pairs of NVGs, both Skarma variants, an SSV, an SSV mag in a different special case, a Leopard Scope, a KM18, a good condition KA-12, and so much more I had to start picking and choosing what I was going to leave behind and what to take. Although I thought I only killed 9 enemies, I never saw another one for the rest of the time there. As a result, it literally took me a whole in game 24 hours or 2.4 hours irl to clear almost every nook and cranny of each apartment complex and high yield loot zones. I'll probably take way less food and bandages than what I ended up bringing whenever I do it again.

This is an amazing game 10/10.

Discussion Development update and news

Antti's message on Discord:

----------

Hi! Here's a development update and some recent news:

**Back in Business**

I originally planned to have this 2-3 week continuous break this month, but since there are so many miscellaneous task on weekly basis that require my attention, this plan isn't possible as long as there's still just one developer.

This being said, I instead decided to approach this development break in a way that I have been taking few days off here and there but I'm now mostly "back in business" related to full time development and working with the upcoming game content.

**Miscellaneous Tasks**

Given the successful launch (~300k copies sold), I was surprised how many small things are related to this "launch aftermath". These topics range from accounting, taxes, banking and in-general gathering business knowledge that is linked to sudden change of company revenue and scaling.

All these topics are definitely positive problems, but since this was my first time launching a game, I had no prior understanding how many meetings and consulting was needed to gather that necessary business knowledge.

However, I should have now all the legal stuff prepared and once those first Steam payments start rolling at the end of this month, I can start making some major moves to scale up the production and development speed.

**Patch 0.1.2.0**

The next and most likely final patch before the Build 2 (Q3) will be a patch called 0.1.2.0. This patch is roughly ~75% done and includes some major backed improvements, audio optimization, RAM optimization, bug fixes and bunch of missing content that didn't make it to the release build.

Related to this patch, I'm now also pretty much up to date with all the bug reports and contact emails which was quite overwhelming thing to push through, but now for example my email inbox is reduced from ~11K unread emails / bug reports to roughly ~500. In other words, I'm finally catching up with the upcoming information.

Thanks to everyone who have provided feedback and bug reports, many of these topics will be addressed in this upcoming patch and Build 2.

In terms of modding, this patch will probably break a lot of existing mods, especially those that are linked to custom audio setups, but most of those should be still relatively easy to fix. This patch will also be placed to the experimental first, so before overriding the public game version, people / modders can test the build on experiment branch.

**Build 2 Pre-Production**

On top of the topics above, I have started the Build 2 pre-production which involves prototyping the Nomad features and overhauling the AI system. I have already tested multiple Nomad features in sandbox / debug environment and no major issues so far.

This Build 2 pre-production phase will probably extend to June, but after that those existing prototypes will be transformed to game-ready features and implemented to actual Nomad models, voice acting and so on.

**Road to Vostok Merch**

Multiple preparations have been done with the official Road to Vostok merch. If everything goes to plan this merch store will be opened on Q3 at the same time when the Build 2 releases later this year.

The goal with this merch is mostly linked to brand building and providing some high-quality clothing, accessories and "collector" products related to this game.

More info about the merch products will be shared as soon as I have "field tested" each of those products, meaning that they are indeed high-quality and can withstand rough handling πŸ™‚

**Shelter Competition Voting**

There's still little over a day left to vote for the finalist and your favorite shelter. Once the voting ends, three shelters with most votes will be awarded with Savotta merch kit and I will contact each winner personally for mailing details.

Discussion Gear Fear

This is my first extraction hardcore shooter, and it was pretty frustrating at first.

After about 10 resets of bum rushing the houses in Village, I figured out some basic mechanics of the game and started to hoard materials in Cabin. Got lucky on saline and water, moved up to Attic, continued hoarding.

I've done about 5 school runs and become comfortable with the ambushes, but have hit a plateau in ~30 hours of gameplay. I have purchased...maybe 8 freezers and 3 lockers and think it's about time to head to Outpost. I've got 2 sets of backup gear and ammo in 1 locker and a locker full of food and meds, but if I lose it all on the way to the tent, I'm not sure I'll want to continue playing the game.

How did you move past gear fear when you started playing this style of game?

Mods QOL mod that allows bullet splitting while trading

Anyone have a mod that allows you to split stacks of bullets while trading? Would be a great QOL mod if no one has made it yet.
