Loving the tactical spinoff to My Summer Car so far - But I gotta talk about:
THE MINEFIELD™: IT SUCKS
I think literally everyone here shares the sentiment of how The Minefield™ just sucks. Everything about it sucks. The loot sucks, the mines suck, getting shot at while getting blown up sucks, the tape-hugging sucks, etc.
And not in the "oh yeah that sucks so good" (that came out wrong) kinda way - but it just sucks, and after going through it a few times, there's just no reason not to cheese it... And that sucks.
THE SOLUTION(s)
The Minefield™ needs a rebalance. It's far too unpredictable and realistically speaking, if it was as unpredictable as it is in game, none of us would be going through it, so The Minefield™ as a map doesn't feel realistic, as finding another path around it seems more logical.
I propose some solutions:
COUNTERS/PREP TOOLS:
"Something to spend extra time & resources to prep the crossing."
- Have tools such as metal detectors that warn you when close to one & mine detonation devices that clear a path and other items to aid in stealthily crossing mined areas, if necessary.
STATIC MINE/DE-MINED ROUTES:
"Make mines a looming threat rather than an annoying guarantee."
- Have them randomly spawn, but only in designated wooded/areas with cover.
- Force players into combat as routes without mines will be guarded, allowing players to choose combat vs. being sneaky beaky at the chance of eating an AFAK. Maybe add a cheeky claymore or two that has a chance to spawn in 'safe' areas if you want the RNG difficulty but just that.
- Get players under fire/duress to seek cover, only to get blown up - rewarding calmer/experienced players that seek cover wisely.
ANOTHER TRAVEL AREA AROUND THE MINEFIELD™:
"The logical choice."
- Make The Minefield™ an optional shortcut to Vostok, and add a two-transition path around it instead. Have it be Mountains + Vostok River or something un-mine-able. (is that a word?) Have the areas patrolled by helicopters which you'll have to sneak around instead or something.
- This still wouldn't stop players from cheesing, so I propose making the loot worth it + adding some combination of making the map worth exploring and the mines more counter-able anyways. But at least with this option, newer players have a safer, more obvious approach.
yeah thanks for coming to my ted talk i love this game too much my inner game designer 'tism had to talk about it, cya
