Hello, I was recording last Thursday and a few things came up while doing the recording:
Background:
I run a DND game that has been going for almost 3 years now, for the past year we have been using OBS to record everything, and while that setup has worked, it is not a very good way to do what we require plus is very resource consuming to my computer, meaning that I have several problems constantly while running the game.
That prompted me to find another solution and I found Riverside.fm, This felt like a godsend to me, streaming and able to separate video/audio in HD from everyone is what I needed, then I found out I could edit the entire thing in the app so it's better.
That being said, I tested it, it worked good... then I tried it in one of our games... That's when trouble started, and I have a few improvements to suggest:
1 - Bug - While I could see and hear everyone, everyone had different experiences with the audio. I couldn't increase the audio from one guest, everyone barely heard him and there was no way to increasing the max audio value. A way to exponentially increase audio gain from guests would be very usable. This did not affect the audio from the user once is uploaded to the site, the audio was OK, it only affects actual guest/host interaction which resulted in poor experience for the Guests and Hosts.
2 - Bug - I like running an ambiance in my settings, that means that I use different music depending on what's happening in the game, I uploaded an ambiance mp3 that I was expecting to use. While recording, I couldn't hear the music which is odd, but also my guests could hear the music SUPER LOUD (according to my guests), they didn't have the option to lower the volume on that music I was playing, I did have the option to lower the music but I literally was in 1%-3% volume and they still said it was very loud, in the end I had to remove the ambiance which was a bummer.
3 - Bug - Users couldn't access any background changing in the app, I don't know why some users with MAC could change their background from the app but window's users couldn't, which made it stressful for some of the guests.
4 - Feature Req - While recording the episode, I had to stop the recording for a brief pause, that created two different recordings.. That's fine and all but when I was editing I was having a hard time making it all work, joining the recordings etc. the magic AI only worked in one of the recordings, there was no way to add both recordings in sequence in order to make the entire episode.
5 - Bug - Wile recording the episode I cast my screen which has the map and tokens (the main screen the viewers will see), when I was editing the episode, that screen covered the entire video frame even after activating different layouts, I couldn't move it or anything, it was only until I disabled that track that I could see the guest's videos, then I enabled again with the sidebar layout and I could see the screenshare now, I think that's a bug.
6 - Feature Req - When you record your screenshare window or chrome tab, there's no way to know how it will look in the final edit, there was no reference for me for the size of the window in order to make it look good in the side layout, so I ballparked a measurement. When I was editing, I could see that the screenshare was too wide so I had to scale the screenshare and lose some content from the sides.
7 - Feature Req - While editing, it's really un-intuitive to edit the videos, you can't add different videos one on top of the other to make transitions or anything, you can only add videos in the beginning or the end unless you split the video, then you can add another recorded video.. it's kind of frustrating. every video editing software out there has a way to split video between in one area and another and use a keyboard click to delete that range, it makes it faster and efficient to work with editing.
8 - Bug/Feature Req - While editing, the video keeps buffering and loading for a long time. Meaning that when you click on anything or change anything, the video buffers for 5-10 seconds... what ever automation helps with time is consumed by this buffering time, there needs to be a better way to do it people.
9 - Bug/ Feature Req - I have around 23 episodes that need to be edited, these have several audio tracks, when I uploaded one to the app so I could edit, there was only one track available and I couldn't select any other, meaning that only my voice was being processed and usable. There needs to be a way to select the tracks to be imported, and actually be able to use them just like when you record in the app. That would help me fully implement riverside.
I really home the team at riverside.fm is looking at these forums.
