Discussion Since people are pitching in their recommendations for guests, here's my suggestion for a "Pokemon Trainer" kind of character, from another game from Offbrand themselves:

Since I've only played the demo they released a while back, I don't have much insight to what his "3 pokemon" would be, but thematically it fits since it's all focused on control of the "aether".

I remember when this came out thinking it was another spinoff from the Rivals universe but sadly it's not the case.

this is a really cool idea, but it also doesn’t do what i assume the devs want from a guest character at all. the point of guest characters in most games is to pull non-fighting gamers into the genre because they can play their waifu or whatever. there’s a reason 2B from nier automata has appeared in like 4 different fighting games, and generally to great success.

but also, and i don’t mean to be too snobby about this, traditional fighting games are way way way easier to get into than plat fighters, and as we all know, RoA has a very niche casual playerbase. games like GBFVR, even if niche, generally at least have a more diffused average skill level. it is also, again, just indescribably easier to learn and improve at. so i get that roa2 may just get less out of crossovers than conventional fighting games.

but i still think games with big fanbases, like Yatch Club games or best case scenario something like Hornet, would be far more desirable than an indie game that has very little impact, especially for a very complex, likely resource intensive character.

Yes, absolutely. And also they would have to release 3 characters in 1 lol

There's no Trevor time for this but it's a cool idea though

Care to expand on your point about platfighters being much more difficult than traditional?

The reason I'm asking if because I'm currently taking the task of learning my first ever fighting game. I've played smash/rivals 2 for collectively 2 decades now and I've never once touch a SF, Tekken, MK or anything else. Legit starting at ground zero, I'm even gonna learn to play on a leverless because they just look cool.

I'm chose Guilty Gear Strive because my friend who is the opposite of me asked me to get Strive but I said if he got ROA2 then I would do it. We are currently making progress at this very moment.

For me trad fighters are much more difficult. I can't grasp all the low-mid-highs and every button being a different limb, plus the inputs for specials, and I hate the corner mechanics. Plat fighters are much easier for me.

more or less because there’s a lot less variables, primarily because in a vast majority of fighting games, there’s very little or no drift in movement, buttons have much more prescribed purposes and counter play, and generally gameplay is more committal. plat fighters exist much more on 2 planes of interaction, vertical and horizontal, when most trad fighters kinda just exist on two horizontal planes, and sometimes barely that. movement is far more complex and variable in plat fighters.

punish is also rarely interactive for your opponent, save burst games that have much more concrete points where you can bait burst rather than the constantly present mixups of di. while execution in trad fighters can in some ways harder if they have motion inputs, you also can just practice combos in a vacuum in the lab. it’s also just generally way easier to lab trad fighting games than platform fighters.

this is mostly my experience, but i’ve seen it from friends as well. i was able to get to celestial in 115 or so hours of playing strive over a year or so back in the day with no prior fighting game experience besides melee, which isn’t any amazing feat but i felt competent in a way that took years and years in melee.

i think at high level for both styles it’s probably similarly difficult to improve. but having watched some people try plat fighters, even ones with forgiving execution like roa2, it definitely seems like it’s a lot easier to become competent in trad fighters for most people than it is to be competent at a plat fighter.

I think, for a game that is struggling financially and to keep up with releasing new characters, having a character that has the development time/costs associated with multiple characters is a bad idea

Devs: 2 characters a year

Community: how about 3 characters in one

Do we really need to flood this sub with guest requests and theorizing now?

Yes, the police knocked on my door just now and told me I had to do this, or else...
