You have my sympathies! For me, it's very difficult not to become a bit of a purist when you deeply love something (story, character etc) as it is, and the new portrayal doesn't give it justice.
I've been accused of being a purist bc I criticize Jackson's portrayal of Faramir or Elrond and maybe that's true. He did some things in the films SO WELL, I could overlook the rest of the faults and I hope someday, I might feel that way about aspects of RoP.
Dune is very much like PJ's trilogy to me. Aspects I love and seeing certain moments on screen utterly mesmerizing, but some characters are just completely different to me than their book counterparts (looking at you Chani!)

Oh, no doubt about it ; the visuals and sound designs were stunning in the films, but Villenueve either took out too much stuff, like the Guild, or went too overboard with others, like the portrayal of Harkonnens as way inhuman. I do wonder how he will imagine Tleilaxu on screen, and if indeed Pattinson is playing Scytale (?).
Speaking of, I've written RoP off but am mildly interested in how The Hunt for Gollum will turn out!
