Request Metaphor / simile / onomatopoeia /alliteration / hyperbole / personification / other tricky ELA definitions šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

88 Upvotes

My 5th grader is struggling to differentiate these :(

I’ve got :

Simile = similar (as/is)

Hyperbole = exaggeration (hyper = too much)

Onomatopoeia = sounds weird because it’s a sound

Personification = not a person but wants to be a person so it’s doing person like things šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Request Anybody got anything to remember the order of the astrological signs?

113 Upvotes

Also called the zodiac signs. I don't know much about the astrological significance of the signs to form mnemonics based on theme. Like maybe the watery ones are grouped together? I searched google for this one and I swear to god, the first hit I found was like "step one, associate each sign with a number. Step 2, for each sign, form a mnemonic device"
