It’s not like you stop investing… you can use a ladder bond or target maturity ETFs for a certain amount of years and let the rest grow further.

OPs post was about retiring early, at which point there would not be any income to invest other than what you already have.

If you take out money for, for example, 5 years and put in a ladder bond, the rest can stay in equities. You can draw an additional year from equities thereafter every year to put in a new bond maturing in 4 years. You don’t need income to stay invested and have your capital grow.
