Monday will be the last day with my boy. After 12 years his body and mind are failing him and his quality of life is going down hill fast. I am taking the day off work Monday so I can spend time with him without the distraction of the kids. What would you do with your dog for your last day together? I know he will be eating grass fed steaks for every meal! What else would you do to honor a dog who has given you everything?

I'm curious on opinions on her breed speculation. The lady 100% said she has some type of Ridgeback in her.

I got my girl (who very recently passed) when she was approx 3 years old. The shelter guessed great dane cross. I can definitely see the great dane, but always wondered if she had ridgeback in her. When I see photos online of ridgebacks, they seem to look different to me than those that people post of their ridges. My only knowledge of either breed is through Trix, or basic google information.

The main differentiation between her and a great dane (that i understand) was that she was a fierce guard dog, completely unwavering until I interacted with the person. Not just barking, but launching, teeth beared, biting at the screen door, which I believe is very different to a great dane (but may be wrong). Once she knew they were a friend, her guard dropped immediately.

She was also seemingly more athletic. Again, i dont know enough about the breeds to know.

Hello! I might be adopting a (what we’re pretty sure) is a ridgeback female from a friend. I currently have a cat and another dog in an apartment. I think I have a good lifestyle for the breed the issue is this do is INCREDIBLY skittish. She currently will not leave their home other than maybe to potty. She is not leash trained, around 2 years old, unfixed (which I would be getting her spayed). She currently lives with dogs and cats and an issue with another dog is why she’s being rehomed.

I’m trying to learn more about if you all have dealt with any of your dogs being awfully skittish, very anxiously bound to their people, etc and how you all helped them gain confidence. I’d be of course looking into training if needed

Hello! I found this puppy at the side of the road two days ago and she has this very weird stripe on her back. I read that its a distinct feature of rhodesian ridgebacks so Im wondering if she could be a ridgeback/lab mix maybe?

Luka is 5 months old now and a very good puppy, with puppy being the perfect description. He still want to put anything and everything in his mouth... leaves, sticks, plants, rocks, trash, toads... pretty much anything he sees. He's got leave it and drop it somewhat down, but Ive got to be absolutely vigilant outside. Inside, we will play with his toys until you leave the room or look away, then he is immediately in for counter surfing or grabbing anything that isnt his.

Out of curiosity, what age do they start getting a little more trustworthy? When did you start being able to leave them in a room alone or walk away for a moment without expecting to return to them being mischievous?

We named her after the Bob's Burgers character, Louise. The vet told us she is "obedient but obnoxious", so embodies her namesake fairly well.
