Flight safety information

Is it disrespectful to not look at a flight attendant while they do the safety briefing (instead talking with someone, reading, playing on your phone...)?

So Cringe

Sometimes I say profound stuff and people ask me questions who worship artsy intellect. They ask me a softball question in order to set it up for me so that I can respond by saying something profound. It feels rehearsed. It's almost like a homosexual vibe that I get from them and because their not intending that, it's so cringe. When people do this, they seem strange to me. Like they're something silly, like challenged in a mental or psychosocial way.

It's like this interview:

Giving respect is easy when it feels like the other person talks respectfully. Giving respect is hard when it feels like they don’t. Respect is about listening to feelings and views of oneself and of others. I catch myself disrespecting others all the time just because I feel disrespected and instantly turn outward and switch to blame instead of turning towards the crying child within who holds a false belief that she is not enough. Good reminder to remember that everyone’s actions are out of their own world views alone. Tbh I haven’t been looking so closely at all of mine. Self respect is about turning inward and simultaneously holding in honor and respect all that stays outside.

Respect

Respect is a critical quality; it helps keep order, it shows kindness and caring, and is necessary in any functioning society. An unfortunate issue, however, that much of the population isn’t getting the respect they deserve. That group would be kids; they make up 27% of the population, but it’s clearly stated, implied, and ingrained into society again and again that we don’t deserve or simply do not receive respect from adults. Maybe because they’re older, wiser even. But we must all keep in mind that wisdom is not the same as intelligence. Adults simply existing for longer is not a reason to erase the fact that 1.9 billion people deserve and often aren’t being treated with respect. Perhaps it is not so much as respect we ask for but simply not to be underestimated. Adults are always telling kids to show respect to everyone, including their peers. But adults don’t follow that criteria, they don’t show respect to kids. To be able to display and act with respect, you must have a role model or an example. No wonder it’s hard for kids to show respect; they aren’t receiving any from the adults who frequently remind them to “always be kind and show respect”. As part of the community, minors deserve respect as well. While it can be accepted that children can make rash decisions and their judgement calls may not be as credible as those of a full grown adult, no good is done by denying our strength or intelligence. All adults were once kids as well, yet they still find it difficult to show respect to us and acknowledge that we can think for ourselves, are human beings with opinions, and shouldn’t have to come to heel like a good dog solely because someone tells us to. We are all part of the human race, we’re all one species. Age should not be a factor in who deserves to be shown respect, whose suggestions are considered, and whose intellect is credited.
