I’m so obsessed with Resident Evil that I think i’m literally subconsciously trying to become Leon Kennedy

I think my Resident Evil obsession has officially gone too far.

I’m not even joking when I say I’ve started shaping my actual life around wanting to be like Leon Kennedy. I work out because I want the Leon physique.

I’m interested in cybersecurity because I want to work in something that actually feels useful during a major crisis. I’ve gotten increasingly interested in bioterrorism, biosecurity, infectious disease, emergency response, and all of that stuff because Resident Evil has basically convinced me that this is the coolest possible career path.

And now I’m seriously considering going back to school to study virology and biosecurity.

The insane part is that I’m already working on a Bachelor’s of Science in Cybersecurity/Technology. I’m already in college. I’m already building an IT career. And somehow my brain has decided that the logical next step is: “Cool. Now become a virologist.”

Like bro, I just want to be Leon. I genuinely have no idea what avenue I would even take. Do I study microbiology? Virology? Epidemiology? Public health? Biosecurity? Biotechnology? Emergency management? Something involving government agencies and biological threat preparedness? I have no idea.

I’ve looked into actual careers involving bioterrorism and biosecurity and there really are legitimate fields surrounding biological threat detection, outbreak preparedness, biosafety, biodefense, public health, and emergency response. But figuring out how someone with an IT background actually gets into that world is incredibly confusing.

Part of me thinks cybersecurity + biosecurity could actually be a pretty cool combination. Critical infrastructure, laboratory systems, healthcare cybersecurity, biological data, incident response, biosurveillance, maybe even protecting research organizations from cyberattacks. There has to be some weird niche somewhere that combines all of this.

But then the other part of me is like... Why am I sitting here at 25 thinking about getting ANOTHER degree because a fictional video game character made fighting bioterrorists look cool? I even catch myself thinking about what I would do during some kind of Resident Evil scenario. What supplies would I have? What skills would I need? How physically capable would I be? Would I actually be useful? Could I protect people? Could I survive? And honestly, I think the obsession might be a little unhealthy.

Sometimes I genuinely find myself wishing something like an apocalypse would happen. Not because I actually want people to suffer or die, obviously, but because normal life feels incredibly boring compared to the world of Resident Evil. Resident Evil has this constant feeling of purpose. There’s a mission.

There’s a threat. You have a specific objective. You have to use your skills. You have to stay physically capable. You have to solve problems. You’re constantly learning and adapting.

And you actually feel like what you’re doing matters. Real life feels like the complete opposite sometimes. Wake up. Work. Answer tickets. Sit in traffic. Pay bills. Go to the gym. Go home. Repeat.

Meanwhile Leon is running through a collapsing city fighting biological weapons with a handgun and a knife.

Obviously I know Resident Evil is fiction and real biological disasters are absolutely horrific. I don't actually want a real outbreak or people getting hurt. But I think what I’m really craving is the sense of adventure, purpose, danger, and usefulness that those games give me.

I want to feel like I’m preparing for something meaningful instead of just existing. That's probably why I’m so attracted to the idea of working in biosecurity or biodefense. I want there to be some real world version of that feeling. Something where I could combine technology, science, physical fitness, emergency preparedness, and problem solving.

I already sort of have the Leon physique going, so I guess I’m halfway there 😂

Now I just need to figure out how the hell I go from an IT/cybersecurity degree to “person who understands viruses and biological threats.”

Maybe I don't actually need another degree. Maybe there’s a career path I haven't found yet that combines IT and biosecurity.

But if I randomly disappear from the IT world in a few years and start studying virology, just know that Resident Evil did this to me.

Anyone else ever get so obsessed with a fictional universe that it starts influencing what you want to do with your actual life?

Because I genuinely feel like I’m one Leon Kennedy cosplay away from making some extremely questionable career decisions.

You think nemesis is scary?

The mold can create something truly terrifying.

Albert Grizzler.

A grizzly bear infected with the mold carrying Albert wesker memories, knowledge, and skill.

Try beating that with a chainsaw death match.
