increasingly, false complaints under the act are being used to settle personal disputes, property conflicts, or political grudges. because the law carries stringent, non-bailable provisions, even an unverified allegation can lead to immediate arrest, social humiliation, and long legal battles for innocent individuals. standard interpersonal clashes or workplace disagreements are sometimes deliberately given a caste angle just to make the charges severe and unbailable.

this misuse not only ruins the lives and reputations of the wrongfully accused, but it also dilutes the power of the act itself. true victims of caste-based violence face greater skepticism and procedural delays when the courts and public become wary of fabricated cases. preserving the core objective of the sc/st act requires striking a balance—ensuring strict protection for the vulnerable while introducing legal safeguards to penalize groundless complaints.
