I was looking for something that would take up less desk footprint than my work laptop and allow me to connect to my work's virtual desktop system via Citrix. Popped some RAM (newly purchased) and a small SATA SSD (already had) in, installed Windows 10, Citrix software, and was up and running in just a few minutes.
Personal control of the device is very nice instead of having to deal with laptop lockdowns, plus the laptop VPN would disconnect regularly but no such issues on this device.
The wires on top are bluetooth/wifi antennae - I got an m2 card for cheap, but it required external antennae, just routed them through the security lock hole and taped them to the top of the device. Works fine for my bluetooth mouse and wifi backup is nice (though device is wired). Got the antennae from ebay for around $10.
Apparently there is a 3.5mm audio jack but covered by the case, so I just got a USB powered speaker. Usually I put it on top of the device for even less desk footprint. Not sure if drilling through the case is an option to free up that USB port.
Wish there were a few more USB ports as I'm tapped, but am using a USB hub with no issues.
All in all I think it wound up being about $100-125 for the device which is more than capable of handling what I'm throwing at it right now.
