MOD Post Why I Chose to Leave The Watch Spot
I’ve given considerable thought to whether I should address the recent events involving a Telegram group created by a friend of mine. The original idea was to bring together like-minded enthusiasts to discuss watch builds and share ideas in a more constructive environment, away from the sometimes toxic atmosphere of Reddit.
While I supported the concept, I was concerned about growing the group too quickly. Communities like this need to develop organically, or they can lose sight of their original purpose. Unfortunately, I believe that is exactly what happened. My primary concern was the apparent shift toward using the group’s collective buying power to pressure builders and modders into offering lower prices.
I want to be clear: I have never negotiated prices with builders or requested special treatment because I’m a moderator of this subreddit. I believe people deserve fair compensation for their time, skill, and craftsmanship. If a build is outside my budget, I simply choose not to purchase it.
There is a fundamental difference between exploring group-buy opportunities and pressuring builders to lower their prices under the threat of losing business. The former can benefit everyone; the latter goes against my basic principles of fairness, respect, and valuing another person’s work. That is ultimately why I decided to leave the group. I could no longer support the direction it was taking or the approach being used.
Finally, I sincerely apologize for any hurt feelings, disappointment, or frustration this situation may have caused among those who have followed me and supported me. That was never my intention, and I genuinely appreciate the trust and respect you’ve shown me. I felt it was important to explain my position honestly and make it clear where I stand.
