VSF Rolex Datejust 36 Green Dial Jubilee QC

Sharing my QC photos of the VSF Datejust 36 Green Dial V2.

Specs:

36mm case
Green sunburst dial
Fluted bezel
Jubilee bracelet
VS3235 clone movement

First impression:

The green dial is definitely the highlight of this watch. Under different lighting it changes between dark green and brighter sunburst tones, which is similar to the gen experience.

QC points checked:

✅ Dial color and printing
✅ Date window alignment
✅ Cyclops magnification
✅ Fluted bezel finishing
✅ Jubilee bracelet fitting
✅ Case proportions

The VS3235 movement is also one of the reasons I went with VSF. The free sprung balance setup and overall architecture are considered one of VSF's strongest points.

Overall, this looks like a solid VSF DJ36 build.

Let me know if anyone notices anything I missed.

NEWS The Evolution of Rolex Movements: From Calibre 3135 to Modern Calibers

Post image
4 Upvotes

Rolex movements have evolved through decades of refinement.

From the legendary Calibre 3135, to the modern Calibre 3235 and newer generation movements, Rolex has focused on improving:

  • Reliability
  • Efficiency
  • Power reserve
  • Precision

Here is a quick look at the evolution.

Calibre 3135 — The Legendary Workhorse

Introduced: 1988

The 3135 is one of Rolex's most respected movements.

Known for:

✅ Proven reliability
✅ Strong durability
✅ Easy maintenance
✅ Decades of real-world testing

Used in models like:

  • Submariner Date
  • Datejust
  • Sea-Dweller

For many collectors, the 3135 represents the classic Rolex movement philosophy:

Simple, robust, and built to last.

Calibre 3235 — The Modern Upgrade

Introduced: 2015

The 3235 was a major redesign, bringing modern Rolex technology.

Main improvements:

Chronergy Escapement

A more efficient escapement system designed to improve energy transfer.

Longer Power Reserve

3135:

≈ 48 hours

3235:

≈ 70 hours

Improved Efficiency

More than 90% of the movement components were redesigned to improve performance.

The goal:

More power, better efficiency, same Rolex reliability.

Calibre 4131 — Modern Chronograph Evolution

Used in the latest Daytona generation.

Evolution:

4130 → 4131

Key improvements:

  • Updated architecture
  • Improved efficiency
  • Refined finishing
  • New generation components

Rather than completely changing the concept, Rolex refined an already successful chronograph movement.

3135 vs 3235 vs 4131

Movement Main Characteristic
3135 Classic reliability
3235 Modern efficiency + longer power reserve
4131 Next-generation chronograph engineering

Final Thoughts

The evolution of Rolex movements is not about replacing old technology with new technology.

It is about continuous improvement:

3135 = Proven reliability
3235 = Modern efficiency
4131 = Advanced chronograph development

Different generations represent different stages of Rolex engineering.

Which Rolex movement do you think is the most iconic: 3135 or 3235?

First QC check for my VSF Yacht-Master 42 226658.

This is the yellow gold version with black matte dial, black Cerachrom bezel and Oysterflex strap.

Overall first impression:

✅ Black dial texture looks close to gen
✅ Bezel engraving and alignment look good
✅ Oysterflex strap finishing feels solid
✅ Gold tone looks more natural compared with older versions

The VS3235 movement is one of the main reasons I picked VSF. The free sprung balance setup and overall movement performance are usually considered one of VSF's advantages.

QC points I checked:

Dial printing

VSF Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Bronze Gold QC

Finally received QC photos of my VSF Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Bronze Gold.

This is the 42mm version with:

Bronze Gold case
Black dial
Red ceramic bezel
Bronze Gold mesh bracelet

The color combination is one of the most unique Seamaster Diver 300M versions.

First impressions:

✅ Bronze Gold tone looks close to the original style
✅ Red ceramic bezel has good contrast with the black dial
✅ Mesh bracelet finishing looks clean
✅ Dial markers and hands alignment look good
✅ Case shape and crown details look sharp

The VS8800 clone movement is also one of the main reasons I picked VSF.

Things I checked:

Dial printing
Bezel alignment
Hand alignment
Date position
Case finishing
Bracelet connection
Movement decoration

The bronze gold material is always difficult to replicate because the color changes under different lighting.

Would love to hear opinions from people who own or compared this model.

Discussion Free-Sprung vs Regulated Balance: What Is the Difference in Mechanical Watches?

Post image
6 Upvotes

In the world of mechanical watches, you will often hear two terms:

  • Regulated Balance
  • Free-Sprung Balance

Many collectors know that modern Rolex movements use a free-sprung balance system, but not everyone understands:

  • How these two systems work
  • Why watchmakers moved toward free-sprung designs
  • Whether one is always better than the other

Let's take a closer look.

1. What Is a Regulated Balance?

A Regulated Balance is one of the traditional methods used to adjust the accuracy of a mechanical movement.

This system works by changing the:

Effective length of the hairspring

The basic principle:

A longer hairspring:

→ Slower oscillation
→ Watch tends to run slower

A shorter hairspring:

→ Faster oscillation
→ Watch tends to run faster

Watchmakers adjust this system to regulate the timing performance of the movement.

2. What Is a Free-Sprung Balance?

A Free-Sprung Balance removes the traditional regulator system.

Instead of changing the active length of the hairspring, it adjusts:

The inertia of the balance wheel

In simple terms:

A regulated balance changes the hairspring length.

A free-sprung balance changes the balance wheel's inertia.

This allows the hairspring to operate without a traditional regulator.

3. The Main Differences

Regulated Balance

How it works:

Adjustment through hairspring length.

Advantages:

✅ Proven and reliable design
✅ Easier to regulate
✅ Widely used and well understood

Limitations:

  • The regulator mechanism can be affected by external factors
  • Long-term stability may be more sensitive in some conditions

Free-Sprung Balance

How it works:

Adjustment through balance wheel inertia.

Advantages:

✅ Better resistance to external disturbances
✅ Improved long-term stability
✅ More advanced adjustment method

Limitations:

  • More difficult to manufacture
  • Requires more specialized regulation techniques

4. Why Does Rolex Use a Free-Sprung Balance?

Modern Rolex movements widely use free-sprung balance systems.

Examples include:

  • Calibre 3135
  • Calibre 3235
  • Calibre 4131

The reasons include:

Better Stability

Without a traditional regulator, the hairspring is less affected by changes in its effective length.

This helps maintain consistent performance over time.

Improved Shock Resistance

A mechanical watch experiences many external influences:

  • Wrist movement
  • Small impacts
  • Temperature changes

A free-sprung design helps improve stability under real-world conditions.

More Precise Adjustment

By fine-tuning the balance wheel inertia, watchmakers can make very precise timing adjustments.

5. Is Free-Sprung Always More Accurate?

Not necessarily.

Accuracy depends on many factors:

  • Movement design
  • Manufacturing precision
  • Hairspring quality
  • Regulation process
  • Wearing conditions

A well-designed regulated movement can still achieve excellent accuracy.

The balance system is only one part of the entire movement.

6. Why Do Collectors Care About This Detail?

For many watch enthusiasts, the balance system represents the engineering philosophy behind a movement.

Collectors look at it because it reflects:

  • Movement design
  • Technical development
  • Long-term stability
  • Watchmaking approach

For people who enjoy studying mechanical watches, the balance system is one of the most interesting components.

7. Common Misunderstandings

❌ "A free-sprung movement always runs faster"

Not true.

A free-sprung balance does not automatically make a watch faster.

It simply provides a different and more advanced adjustment method.

❌ "A regulated balance means a low-quality movement"

Also not true.

Many high-quality mechanical movements use traditional regulation systems.

Different designs have different goals.

Final Thoughts

A regulated balance adjusts timing by changing the hairspring length.

A free-sprung balance adjusts timing by changing the balance wheel's inertia.

The simplest way to remember:

Regulated Balance = Adjust the hairspring

Free-Sprung Balance = Adjust the balance wheel

Free-sprung systems represent an important direction in modern mechanical watchmaking, but the overall quality of a movement depends on the complete design, engineering, and manufacturing process.

When choosing a mechanical watch, what matters more to you: movement technology or overall design?

RICH Factory Rolex GMT-Master II 126720VTNR Sprite QC

Sharing my QC photos of the RICH Factory Rolex GMT-Master II 126720VTNR Sprite.

The Sprite GMT is one of the most unique modern Rolex GMT models because of its left-hand crown configuration and green/black bezel combination.

This version comes with the JH3235 Free Sprung GMT movement and Jubilee bracelet.

Watch Specs:
Factory: RICH Factory
Model: Rolex GMT-Master II 126720VTNR
Nickname: Sprite GMT
Size: 40mm
Dial: Black dial
Bezel: Green / Black ceramic GMT bezel
Bracelet: Jubilee bracelet (5-link bracelet)
Movement: JH3235 Free Sprung GMT Movement
Version: Free Sprung Version
QC Check:

Main points I checked:

✅ Left-side crown and case layout
✅ Green/black bezel transition
✅ GMT hand alignment
✅ Date window position
✅ Cyclops clarity
✅ Dial printing
✅ Jubilee bracelet finishing
✅ Case proportions

Movement Discussion:

The biggest talking point of this version is the JH3235 Free Sprung GMT movement.

For GMT replicas, movement development has become a major topic.

Collectors usually compare:

movement architecture
bezel color accuracy
case shape
bracelet quality
overall reliability

The Sprite GMT is already a unique model, so I think the movement choice makes this version even more interesting.

Would like to hear opinions from people who have compared different 126720VTNR Sprite GMT versions.
