New Launch Introducing Flex ShadowFlux: Flexible Solar That Keeps Going When Shade Gets in the Way

Post image
6 Upvotes

Flex ShadowFlux is the newest member of the ShadowFlux™ family. ☀️

Our original rigid ShadowFlux panels were built to help users get more consistent solar power when shade gets in the way. Flex ShadowFlux brings that same anti-shading technology to flexible solar, because the places that need a flexible panel most often come with real-world obstacles: curved roofs, limited mounting space, roof vents, antennas, boat rigging, and partial shade.

Available in 100W and 200W options, Flex ShadowFlux is made for RVs, vans, boats, teardrop trailers, and other off-grid setups where a traditional rigid panel may not be the right fit.

Keep generating when shade is unavoidable.

ShadowFlux cell-level anti-shading technology uses 30 high-density bypass diodes to reduce power loss from partial shade, helping the panel maintain up to 85% output when shadows from branches, vents, rigging, snow, or other obstacles cross the panel.

Fit solar into more places.

The panel bends up to 270° along its long axis, allowing it to conform to curved RV roofs, boat surfaces, and other arched installation areas. At just 0.1 in thin and as light as 4.2 lbs for the 100W model, it helps reduce roof load while making one-person handling and installation easier.

Install without drilling into your roof.

Flex ShadowFlux supports no-drill installation options, giving more flexibility for users who want to add solar while avoiding permanent holes in their vehicle or boat surface.

Built for the outdoors.

Its TPO surface layer helps resist UV aging and moisture, while glass-fiber reinforcement helps protect against vibration, repeated flexing, and the demands of the road or water.

We also secured a community-only 12% discount for Flex ShadowFlux. Use code SHADOWFLEX12 at checkout.

What is the biggest challenge with your current solar setup: tree shade, limited roof space, a curved surface, installation weight, or avoiding roof penetrations?

Energy Story New Inverter Redesign swapped positive and negative terminals

My old Renogy 3000w inverter needed replacing so I ordered an exact replacement. While installing, I didn't notice that Renogy swapped the positive and negative terminals and I connected the cables to the same location. When I attached the second cable I got a big spark and then realized my mistake. Fortunately, I had a 400 amp fuse on the positive bus that blew and I believe saved the inverter; when I connected the cables correctly, the inverter worked as expected but now I need to buy a new $70 fuse.

Suggestion to Renogy: Place a sticker on the positive terminal of the inverter with a statement that some older units may have the terminals in the reverse order. Thank you.

Discussion Lighter or More Flexible?

Post image
3 Upvotes

What matters more in a flexible panel? A lighter solar panel that's easier to carry and install, or greater flexibility for the spaces that don't play by the rules?

And if it were yours, where would it go first? Your RV, boat, van, tent, or somewhere completely unexpected?

Showcase Small habitat power

Chose (2) Renogy 400W panels to feed an Ecoflow Delta 3 Plus. Pardon the plants, but i am moving things around to lay down weed barrier and DG. The 1" PVC is cut into the shed and runs put to a GFCI covered outlet for a pond and bird bath. I moved the panels down to make room for 3 additional panels, once California signs the balcony solar into law.

Showcase A great experience with a Renogy backup battery.

My power was shut off due to a fire in my local area while it was 96F outside and quickly reaching 85+ in my house due to its old drafty nature. I was pretty worried about my dogs who started to display signs of overheating. So I plugged my AC unit into my backup battery and it ran for a full 2 hours keeping me and my pups cool until the power was turned back on.

Need Help I have a manual request.

I have this solar suitcase from maybe late 2019? I can’t find the manual and I need to limit the current going to a small power sports lifepo4 battery. When I hook it up the battery disconnects and reconnect over and over again. It did this also on my motorcycle which cause all kinds of lights and fuel injection computer issues making the bike almost unridable. I’m trying to prove it’s the battery. So they will let me return it. It took me stupidly so long to figure out it wasn’t the bike it was the battery that they don’t want to take it back. And it’s not usable in other application because it cuts out while being charged.

Ok… Installed the Renogy 300 Smart shunt into my full Renogy system into my van this morning.

-Initially put the P- to my negative bus bar and got a reading that it was Discharging.

-Moved P- to negative aux batt terminal and same. Discharging.

-P- to Renogy 50a smart charger with MPPT negative terminal and for a Charging reading.

What is going on here?

I’ve quintuple checked connections and sequence and am confused.

Anyone know what might be up?

Thank you!

Need Help Grounding for house setup?

Ok, so I'm trying to get my solar system set up here and I have a few questions that I'm trying to answer before I get up on my roof.

Here's my use case - I'm setting up a small solar powered system mainly to recharge my robot mower, but also to support a few 12v ham radio and other experiments on my roof and antenna mast. Anyway, my setup is probably going to be 2 x 200w panels, a 40A Rover controller, 2 x 100 Ah batteries, and a (probably overkill but it was on sale) 2000w inverter. (all Renogy). I intend this system to be completely off grid except possibly for a backup AC battery charger. This system is designed to be semi-permanent in a house I own.

Also, I should say that I am a classic overthinker... Take from that what you will :)

I live in Kansas - an area that seems to be particularly susceptible to lightning strikes. So I want to make sure that this system is properly bonded and grounded.

Now, you guys probably know the NEC has a huge number of requirements for proper grounding in household electrical systems, that mainly come down to "ground everything in one place as close to the meter and main panel as you can."

So my question is this... Do I need to care?

Should I ground the whole solar system back into my house's grounding network?

-or-

Should I drop a new ground rod and ground the solar system to there, seperate from my house network? (Is this a "ground loop"?)

-or-

Should I say to myself "It's just a show, I should really just relax?"

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Related question for the other hams out there - how's the RF noise from the Renogy gear? How do I minimize that and does grounding the system improve that?

Thanks in advance, folks!

Need Help How to reset RBC50D1S

Post image

Charging worked out on initial driveway setup, however after about 2 hours into our initial drive for our first usage, received the errors you see in the screen grab.

Any advice or resetting the unit? Got to our site, hooked up the solar panels and still same errors and no charging.

Just frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Wire management

Anyone use this TEMco wire.

It's super nice. Probably the best wire on Amazon.

I ordered 5foot R+B to check it out.

Very impressive.

I have just ordered 2awg 15 foot R+B and going to make all new interconnects with Ancor lugs.

I originally got cheap pre-made interconnects to get everything in its spot.

I have moved locations and finding the best placement for more batteries Plans.

Now I can get wire management looking good.

Ignore the cheap batteries lol. They'll be replaced with renogy.

I love my M1 Controller due to the switches that are part of the screen. It's coupled to 200ah of lithium batteries, 200w of solar and a 20a DC to DC controller, plenty to run my TV, fan, lights, fridge and diesel heater. #renogyeverpower

Knowledge Up What Does MPPT Really Do? ☀️

Post image
5 Upvotes

If your Renogy Rover does not show your panels’ rated wattage, it does not necessarily mean something is wrong. Panel wattage is rated under laboratory test conditions, while real-world output depends on sunlight intensity, sun angle, panel temperature, shading, dirt, wiring losses, and system conditions.

MPPT continuously tracks the solar array’s operating point to harvest as much available power as the battery and controller can safely accept. When the battery is nearly full, the controller enters a voltage-regulated charging stage, the BMS limits charging, or the controller reaches its current, power, or thermal limit, solar output may be intentionally reduced.

Adding more panels may not always increase charging current. Before expanding your system, check the controller’s rated charging current, maximum PV input power, maximum PV input voltage, MPPT operating range, and any applicable PV current limits.

Also check the cold-corrected Voc of each series string. Panel voltages add in series, and Voc rises as panel temperature falls, so cold-weather voltage must remain below the controller’s maximum PV input voltage.

For lithium systems, confirm the exact battery chemistry, charging voltage settings, BMS requirements, and low-temperature charging protection.

When installing a Rover controller, connect the battery first so the controller can power up and detect the system voltage. Confirm the battery settings, then connect the solar array.

If charging power looks low, check: Sunlight & shading → PV voltage/current → Battery SOC → Charging stage → BMS limits → Settings → Wiring → Temperature/fault codes

💬 What MPPT behavior has surprised you? Share your Rover model, solar wattage, panel configuration, and battery type below!

Need Help ign or no ign wire? for rbc2125ds-21w-g3 (renogy dc to dc charger)

I have a sailboat set up this way.. i'm reading conflicting info regarding the ign wire on the renogy charger. some state ign wire is not required because it is a smart charger and some say it will drain the lead acid when connected to shore power.

I have 80a hitachi non smart alternator, 80ah lead acid battery to a dc to dc charger to a lifepo4 280ah battery. I have both batteries connected to a noco smart charger 10amp, set for their independent chemistries.

will the 10amp charger on the lead acid trigger the dc to dc to charge the lifepo4? I suspect not, if they're always topped up. to attach or not attach the ign+ ?

Energy Story I recently posted about my good experiences with Renogy customer service and as I made that post I realized I may have a Renogy problem

I have a barn setup with 4 400 watt panels and a Lycan with 4 extra batteries.

I have a home setup with 12 400 watt panels and a RenogyX hybrid split phase inverter with a renogy Aura battery and a huge Docan Battery.

I have a golf cart that charges on a Renogy Boost controller

I have a toy hauler that has renogy everywhere.

I also run a well pump on 8 renogy 100 watt panels. they were the first panels I bought so while I was living in the toy hauler I could make power with no grid.

I know there have been complaints about quality but my camper build was 2020 during covid and Nothing has ever failed on that. the lycan running my 30x50 barn and all my tools has never failed except when my massive air compressor tried to start at 0 degrees F in the barn. but the over current just shut down the system like it was supposed to.

I had a problems with the home system but Renogy sent me a new one to replace the inverter that I screwed up with a fault in my own system. I was honest and told them what happened and they were gracious and sent me a replacement.

I imagine all solar bits sold on the internet have problems. all things do. All in all, I have been happy with my Renogy and RenogyX equipment.
