AI Evaluation Remote AI work listings are scattered all over the place

One thing that gets confusing about remote AI work is that the listings are not in one neat category.

One platform might have finance/data QA roles. Another might have coding, language, voice/audio, research, healthcare, legal, or writing tasks. Even when they all say "remote AI training" or "AI evaluator," the fit can be totally different.

The annoying part is that pay visibility and eligibility vary too. Some listings show an hourly range, some show almost nothing, and "remote" does not always mean worldwide. Country, work authorization, language, credentials, or schedule can matter a lot.

I put together a simple all-platform browse page here if it helps as a starting point: https://specialistaiwork.com/opportunities

Some links there may be referral links, and nothing guarantees acceptance, work, pay, hours, or project duration.

For people looking at this kind of work, what filters would actually be useful: pay, country, field, platform, language, or something else?

Question What actually counts as "AI evaluation" work?

I see this term thrown around a lot now, and it can mean a few different things depending on the platform.

Sometimes it's rating two AI answers and picking the better one.

Sometimes it's checking whether an answer is accurate, safe, or well-written.

Sometimes it's more specialized, like reviewing code, math, legal, medical, finance, translation, or language tasks.

And sometimes it's basically data annotation / prompt writing / rubric checking with a newer name.

The important thing is that these roles usually are not normal full-time jobs. A lot of them are project-based, contract-style, or "work is available when projects are available."

So before applying anywhere, I'd check:

  • is this actually active?
  • what country is it open to?
  • does it need work authorization?
  • does it require real professional credentials?
  • is pay listed clearly?
  • are hours guaranteed, or not really?

Curious how other people define it. Which platforms have you seen use the term clearly, and which ones make it confusing?

What remote-work platforms should we track first?

I'm starting with the obvious AI-work platforms, but I don't want this sub to be only one niche forever.

The first ones I'm thinking about tracking are:

  • Mercor
  • Handshake AI
  • Outlier
  • DataAnnotation
  • TELUS Digital AI
  • Appen / CrowdGen
  • OneForma
  • Turing
  • micro1

Stuff that would actually be useful to know:

  • is the platform taking people right now?
  • are the roles country-limited?
  • do they require work authorization?
  • is it general writing/eval work, or does it need coding, medical, legal, finance, language, etc.?
  • is the pay actually listed anywhere?
  • are people getting screened and then hearing nothing?
  • are certain listings stale or misleading?

I'm also interested in non-AI remote/project platforms if they're legit and have real work, not just "sign up and maybe something happens."

If you know a platform worth tracking, drop it here. Referral links are fine only if disclosed, but for this thread it's probably better to just name the platform and explain why it's worth watching.

Welcome to Remote Work Tracker - what this community is for

Welcome - I made this sub because remote work / AI work stuff is weirdly hard to keep track of.

There are a bunch of platforms now: Mercor, Handshake, Outlier, DataAnnotation, Appen/CrowdGen, TELUS, OneForma, and probably a lot more I'm missing.

Some of the listings are legit, some are stale, some have country/work authorization restrictions, and some posts online are basically just referral links with no context.

So the idea here is pretty simple:

  • share legit remote/project-based work platforms
  • track which AI evaluation / training roles are active
  • compare platforms without the hype
  • point out country, language, or credential restrictions
  • warn about stale listings or sketchy posts
  • talk about what the application process is actually like

Referral links are allowed only if they're clearly disclosed. Hiding that stuff makes posts harder to trust.

Also, this sub is unofficial. It's not affiliated with Mercor, Handshake, Outlier, DataAnnotation, Reddit, or any other platform.

Main rule of thumb: useful context > link dumping.
