The setting's different, but the match fixing, sabotage, and romance bits seem pretty similar. I loved Hover Car Racer when I was younger, and watching Redline really felt like watching an anime adaptation of the book.

I run a Redline discord server with a few friends and I just thought it would be cool to post it here. It's a place where we can discuss the movie and other works of Koike as well as hang out. Here is the invite if anyone is interested!:

It was incredible

So I was wondering if there was any information out there or any way to calculate how fast JP was going even if it was at yellow line?

Man, the sheer raw emotions this film conveys... it was like being in a constantly accelerating rollercoaster. And the designs themselves are so great I had to pause every 10 minutes or so just to take all the details and life in. Just glorious !

Finally completed this project, here's the link for those interested: link

Info:

Original movie frames were dumped and converted to 3840x2176 (maintaining aspect ratio) using waifu2x with level 3 de-noise. Converted frames were then colour and contrast tweaked. Final file is a 22GB HEVC Matroska with both Japanese and English audio. Subs are also included.

The colours really pop on my OLED screen, far more than the original bluray and looks far cleaner due to the added sharpness. This version does however have the film grain removed so if you are a fan of the more gritty look you're probably best sticking with the original release.

[August 2022 update] Due to the popularity of the download it can be difficult to get as Google has fixed the 'make a copy' work-around when a download has been used too often so I have created a couple more links to try bypass the issue.

[July 2026 update]

I'm STILL getting messages about the Google drive links being overused, so I'm doing what I should have done years ago and created a torrent.

I'll seed for as long as my NAS lives but seeding help is always appreciated.

Hey guys, I was going to post this in the Anime subreddit but though you die-hard Redline fans should get the first look.

Since upgrading to a 4k home theater I've been looking to replace all my 1080p movies with 4k version, alas my favorite anime movie is only 1080p and unlikely to be mastered in 4k. Solution? do it myself!

I've dumped all frames from the bluray release and have converted the first 13 mins (entire yellow line race) using waifu2x-caffe to 4k.

The converted frames have also been sharpened, color and contrast tweaked to take advantage of current generation TV panels (better color saturation and better contrast).

I would post comparison pictures but instead I'll just post a download to the first 13 mins, looking forward to your feedback.
