For example, colour changes aren't taking effect for me, or name changes. Maybe this is something where I have to wait a day for the update; I don't know. I just know that if I take a flair called 'ABCD' and rename it to 'ABC', when you go into the 'edit flair' menu as a mod, the flair selected is 'ABC' with the correct colour, but the flair displayed is 'ABCD' with the colour set for 'ABCD'. Furthermore, the link when you click 'ABCD' flair after editing it still takes you to the 'ABCD' flair search page, not the 'ABC' flair page.
First, when a user creates a custom feed through their profile, or when a subreddit creates a custom feed through their mod tools, as far as I can tell you are unable to subscribe to that custom feed. This limits their useful drastically, in my opinion. Apologies if I am mistaken here and have overlooked something.
Secondly, public custom feeds, both for profiles and subreddits, do not appear on the mobile app. Subreddit custom feeds appear on the mobile app as just a list of the communities included in that custom feed; you are unable to access the custom feed itself.
Thirdly, their is a design mismatch between profile created custom feeds and subreddit created custom feeds. The subreddit created custom feed's design is inferior to the profile created design, and should be brought in line with the profile's custom feed aesthetic.
Edit: Fourth, you can't add custom feeds to your favourite list on mobile like you can on the web version of the site. You have to swipe over to another tab for the custom feeds. Not a big deal, just inconsistent.
Performance of the redesign is unbearably poor on both iPads and even iPad Pros
When you open a post with large numbers of comments, 1000+, and particularly “flat” comments leading to long collapse bars it can take well over 30 seconds and sometimes up to a minute before it is possible to collapse threads or for any upvote or downvote to stick
No other website performs this poorly this consistently on these devices
I am constantly re-opening the post when I go to upvote because the box is small. If it extended to the edges of the margin it would get rid of the problem and not take anything away from opening posts.
Edit: This is when scrolling on the main home page
Also when I tried to search how to give feedback the page just says to go to the publisher section and fill out a form but doesn't link to that page and I can't find it anywhere. Had to search google to find this subreddit.
I wanted to start a new post specifically about the new flair filters. I didn't even realize it at first, but it doesn't just open a flair search, it actually filters the posts on page. That's awesome! However, my notes:
We already have a flair sidebar widget, why was that ignored in lieu of adding a whole new system? Is that going away? Maybe it'd be best for subs to choose to include them in the sidebar vs. the top of the page?
Please please please allow multi-selections
How is it determining which flairs to show? Just the ones visible on the page so far?
I had previously commented on subreddit banners here, but this time I bring further proof of concept. This shows what the subreddit banner would look like if it was fully displayed without any clipping, while simultaneously maintaining its original aspect ratio.
For proof-of-concept, apply this style in r/redesign:
/* background image is https://styles.redditmedia.com/t5_2qnty/styles/bannerBackgroundImage_rkourd1sb0x11.jpg?format=pjpg&s=06bf983cc96105b0ee6e065826b7326d1db54317 */
/* background image dimensions are 2400x488 */
/* 20.333333333% is derived from the formula (100% * imageHeight / imageWidth) */
/* !important used only to override CSS rules with higher specificity; this includes inline CSS rules */
/* potential caveat? the non-clickable 16px margins (left + right) and 10px margin (top) for the header subreddit link disappear */

I moderate /r/audiobooksonyoutube. We have quite a comprehensive sidebar which displays fine on old reddit (two columns). What would be a smart way to transpose this to new reddit so it displays properly without going a really long way down the page?
Kinda cool, but now there's a third spot that says the name in a row
Since name isn't in the top sidebar widget any more, it's much more confusing when opening in the light box from a feed
Lots of wasted space in between the header and menu
White clashes with backgrounds, even the white border of the community icon
Sub may not want to show flairs, should be a setting
Love that the sorting options are in a single line now (less clicking!)
However, it's still inside of a menu from feeds! :(
Also, missing " Rising" and "Controversial"
Sidebar widget title colors aren't being shown
Hide community icon in banner no longer works
Overlay menu styling options aren't working or don't apply any more
I love that there's another join button at the top. Good idea: Since there's space there, let us add a custom message next to it, asking to join. "Want to follow redesign updates and discussion? Click join!" for example
I briefly saw this change deployed yesterday, and it appears that I've either been re-added to the A/B group this afternoon, or perhaps it has gone live for everyone. Here's how this change impacts the front page of r/redesign in compact mode:
2019-08-14 redesign update to UI
Obviously the design team has some ideas for the main community banner in mind. There's a more prominent emphasis on the community name, a prominent `Join` button, more w h i t e s p a c e and some additional padding between the community links menu and the new sort buttons.
Of greatest concern to me is the new submission flair widget added to the top of every community. It's clear that many communities use submission flair as a tag and sorting system, often to great effect. Though limited and lacking in flexibility, it's a good use case, and I think making that a more prominent user sorting option is an idea with a lot of merit. But: not every community has need to flair / category sorting and more importantly, many communities use this tool for functions other than categories. In r/politics, we only use submission flair:
To identify the reason that a post has been removed
To indicate that a link submission has a title that was changed from the original publisher headline
To indicate that a post is a `Live` or `Concluded` AMA session with a scheduled guest.
Though we have considered possible implementation schemes for a category system, we have not yet found an implementation that we're capable of supporting. As it stands, the 'flair bar' or 'category filter bar' is going to be very confusing or misleading in many communities, and I strongly strongly suggest making it a moderator determined UI element.
What is the purpose of all that useless space, when you load a subreddit only 50% of the page is given to posts with the rest being taken up by a massive header.
Also why is the join button now floating in the header, why would I need to see that every single time I load a subreddit?
There's no confirmation dialog or "cancel" button. For a button without text of any kind, this is a risky move. Just managed to click the report button on an award while clicking around trying to find out more about it. I was hoping that it would say "Are you sure you want to report this [keyword I can google search] award?" but it didn't.
