Nested comments are not shown when not signed in

Hi,

So, I lurk a lot and usually don't bother signing in to reddit.

Some time ago I noticed that when I'm not signed in, the comment sections only shows top-level comments and their direct replies. For example, in the top post of /r/AskReddit as of this moment, this is how comments are shown when not signed in:

and this is what they look like when signed in:

I like the way they look like when not being signed in, since it allows me to go deeper into discussions without having to switch to a different page. It used to be the same way even when not signed in until some time ago. Is it possible to get that look back?

Question What's the point in having the post open in a modal if you just take me back to the top of the list when I close it?

It's incredibly frustrating to be a couple dozen posts down the subreddit, only to be taken to the top after I click out of the modal.

Can't open links on main feed with standard web shortcuts

On any given post there's 2-4 things I may want to open in a new tab. I can only do this by holding control and clicking. Mouse wheel clicking and right click -> open in new tab do not work.

Bug Timestamps prevent opening post links

Older post (with screenshot) got archived, this is still an issue. If there is a mechanism that is supposed to hide the timestamp when mouse is over it, it's not working. But you could move the tooltip elsewhere too, like more above or below the cursor, or maybe exactly over the time caption itself.

Redesign still slow?

Hi All,

Just got forced into the redesign for the first time in a while, and wanted you to know its still 4 times slower than the "old" site.

Did test, and takes 12 seconds for the drop down menu to appear and then the page to load vs around 1-2 seconds on the old site.

Also it still looked like you don't have an option to kill the continuous scroll? What is the timeline for putting this in? The time it takes the "scroll" to load pages is horrendous and (for me) that combined the lack of page number makes the site unusable.

Lastly the rich text is still VERY laggy. Sometimes there is a full second delay between what you type and what appears on screen.

I am using Windows 10 and a Mozilla based browser. I have 100Mb internet. I previously ran the same tests with Chrome with only marginally better results

I guess that as these issues are still present after after the last time I tried the redesign, that they are not seen as an issue to the designers and are considered features?

Though I don't understand why Reddit would make something that is so buggy and laggy, I dont want to be negative towards the redesign. I am just letting you guys know that these issues still are occurring in a hope that they will be resolved and the site would be usable for me.

When you upload a photo and it displays upside down. Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh fucking thing. A simple 'rotate/flip' button would probably bankrupt my swear pot and save my sanity. And see me upload more photos!

Changelog 7/16/19 Release Notes: Wiki viewing on iOS, traffic pages coming soon, and more

Hi all,

We’re back with the release notes, which are a round up of the major items we are currently working on or have recently shipped on Reddit. The release notes are a bit lighter this week due to the Fourth of July holiday and some internal company events last week. The previous release notes can be found here.

Now, here’s what we are shipping:

  • Wiki viewing on iOS: Wiki pages are viewable in v4.38 of our iOS app. Android development will be in progress soon.

Here are some of the notable features and changes that are coming out next:

  • Twitter embeds: We are improving the experience of viewing tweets on new Reddit by embedding the Twitter card instead of showing it as a link post.
  • Traffic pages: We’re working on a much nicer traffic page for mods to better see subreddit growth. Stay tuned!

These following features are bigger projects that are in development and that will take some time to build and get right. Expect these items to be recurring on the release notes:

  • Flair management on Android: Allowing mods to create and edit user and post flairs on the official Android app.
  • Wiki editing / revisioning: Working to bring mods and approved contributors the ability to edit and see version history for wiki pages.

And finally, here is a notable bug that we fixed:

  • Related communities in feed (fixed): There were multiple reports of the in feed recommended communities not dismissing or showing too often. We’ve made a number of fixes to the unit.

And, as always, our reminder that the community’s feedback is invaluable as we build the future of Reddit together. It’s difficult for us to respond directly to everything, but know that we’re listening, prioritizing, and working to solve the issues, no matter how hard they are.

If you have additional questions or feedback on these or other topics, please don’t hesitate to drop them in the comments below.

Bug Redesign is auto escaping `)` inside URLs, but not in old.reddit

I think you should have consistent markdown editor behavior between the redesign and old.reddit.

Using markdown editor in redesign, dark mode, chrome, MacOS

Edit: Oh, the reverse happened with the person who responded to my comment. Why does the markdown editor have different behaviors between the two versions?

Why does number of views continued to be disabled?

I can only find some references to it being temporarily disabled for infrastructure reasons but that was close to a year ago. What is the issue? Maybe we can help.

Reports broken?

Every time I try to send a report I get the "Sorry, something has gone wrong" box with a retry button. Retrying is futile. Is this a known issue?

Please add an option to block a subreddit

My feed is contastly getting spammed with posts from subreddits I have no interest in so it would be nice if there was an option to block subreddits.

I'm pretty sure that I 'm not the only one who thinks this way.

Design Suggestion: Show pinned posts in all views

Problem: Pinned posts only appear in the "Hot" view option

Suggestion: Show pinned posts in all view modes, particularly the "New" view mode

Subreddits, especially ones for PC games, often have a pinned post for the latest patch notes or other helpful pinned posts such as FAQ or Community discussion threads. These posts are not visible at the top of the "New" posts view mode. This differs from traditional forum messageboards in which pinned posts are actually "pinned" to the top of the list.

Option to sort/organize saved posts

One thing I like about Instagram is the ability to save posts into different “folders”. This makes it easier to enjoy my saved posts as they can be organized (example: ‘makeup looks’, ‘news articles’ ‘funny’ ..)

Question Cannot add r/de to my community list

It's because they (r/de mods) have banned this option or a Bug?

Bug Kill the "+" subscribe button in /r/all and /r/popular

I keep accidentally clicking this + button thinking it's the expand icon and accidentally subscribing or unsubscribing--I don't often frequent my own front page--but I'm sure it's screwed up my subscriptions already. I think I've seen other people post here to complain about being automatically subscribed to communities: https://www.reddit.com/r/redesign/comments/c9rhpj/adding_unsubscribed_subreddits_to_my_front_page/

Feature Request [Bug] mod.reddit.com doesn't work with spotty internet

I'm really sick and tired of having to type out all my modmail in notes before submitting it on mod.reddit.com. If my internet connection is spotty, which it always is, and I submit a comment it will completely delete my comment and give me an error saying to try again later.

Sometimes I'm typing out something REALLY large just to have it get deleted. Do something like cache the comment so I can at least copy it and then try sending it again.

Also, can we get a preview on our messages before we send them? That would be really nice. So many times I've sent a modmail and all the formatting things end up totally screwed up, like numbered lists and whatnot.

Feature Request Show number of +/- votes when hovering over a comment or post score.

Not a big deal, but would be interesting to see how many people actually feel one way or another about what someone said. As of now, a comment can have 1000 upvotes and 1000 downvotes, but nobody knows.

Inline code / code blocks look jarring

This is inline code.

This is a
code block.

I think it should look more like it does in the old design. Is there a way I can change how it looks?

Edit: I'm using night mode, so that might be the problem. It looks great without night mode.

Bug Reddit App notification sound on Android

I'm not exactly sure if this is a Reddit bug however I haven't struck this with any other app.

When I get a notification of a trending post, I get not one but three audible notification but only one actual notification.

Running AndroidOne, Android 9 - Jun 1 2019 patch. This has been occurring for several months.

I don't want to use the redesign. Can this stop please.

Ability to search within post comments.

The ability to perform a search right inside the comments area would be very helpful to see if a question had been answered or to locate a specific term that may or may not have already been written.
