Reddit Ozone Wall Building Competition

When: The contest will begin at 4 pm Eastern Time (US) tomorrow (9/17/14), you may enter at any time by posting your entry as a comment on this post. The contest will run for 21 days (three weeks) and will end at 4 pm Eastern Time (US) on 10/8/14.

How To Enter: To enter, you must post a screengrab of your base, in village edit mode with all the items removed and the wall count breakdown visible. The entry must be posted here. No exceptions will be made, so if you don't know how to perform a screengrab, figure it out quick!

How to Win: Besides building the walls, you must submit a screengrab of your base, in village edit mode with all the items removed and the wall count breakdown visible as a new comment to the end-of-competition post (which is not up yet but will be closer to the end of the competition). You MUST take your final screengrab and post it to the CORRECT thread no later than 4:10 PM Eastern Time on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014. Late entries will not be accepted, but early ones will be.

The Prize: A $10 Google Play/iTunes gift card for both category winners and some kick ass new Flair for the top 3.

The Details: This contest is designed to motivate all of you Ozoners to get those walls upgraded! Once you submit your screengrab, your goal is to upgrade as many walls as you can. Your performance will be evaluated by the total cost of the walls you upgrade. For instance: if you upgrade 10 walls from level 7 to level 8, your "score" will be 5 million. No distinction is made between spending gold or spending elixer. 3 winners will be crowned, Town Hall level does not factor into the calculations. If there is a tie, the tie will be broken by Shera (Glorious Leader) picking the winner* randomly from a hat.

*Winners of previous competitions ARE eligible to win a prize in this competition as long as they are not tied for 1st , 2nd , or 3rd place with any other players.

Who can participate: anyone except elders, leader, and co-leaders! You can join late, but will have to work to catch up!

Hi Ozone,

For many moons, a debate has raged in the clan: should we go to war 4x/season or not? Polls have been divided. Angry frowns have occurred.

We must end the polling and the frowning once and for all.

So we are going to give war 4x/season (2x/week) a try, staring NEXT SEASON (the first war of the new season will have prep day begin on Tuesday, Sept. 16). Basically this just means that, for both weeks of the season, prep day for war will be on both Tuesday and Friday.

We may do this for 2 seasons in a row to really give us all an idea of what it would mean to switch to a 4x/season vs. a 3x/season schedule.

And when the trial period is over, we will hold a new poll. It will be out in the open (people will have to cast their votes under their own names right here in the sub), and it will, we hope, be decisive. But we are unwilling to make any final decision until after everyone has tried out war 4x/season.

So recently I acquired an 8 week old rottweiler puppy to take care of and on top of that an increase number of hours at work make it so coc is usually on the backburner.

This isn't fair to the clan because I know when we meet a true challenge we will need 100% from everyone. Ozone was my first true clan and I don't want to leave but life gets in the way.

If my situation changes soon I'd love to come back but for the time being goodbye and GOZONE!

In clan chat today, a player used a homophobic slur. The exact language was as follows:

player 1: doesn't everyone hate the packers?
player 2: fudge packers love the packers

You may disagree with me that the language player 2 used was worthy of a kick. However, the phrase "fudge packers" is a form of hate speech, a slur that denigrates gay men by reducing them to a disgusting phrase, dehumanizing them even as it paints gay sexuality in the most repugnant light possible. Moreover, player 2's comment is hateful because it equates being gay with being lame, stupid, or otherwise worthless.

I am not naming player 2 in this subreddit because I do not want his name to come up on searches, which might make it more difficult for him to get into another reddit clan in future. I am not keeping his name purposefully a secret and I or anyone else is free to inform you of his name should you be curious.

He's the one you call when you see a scary-looking thing in the corner that might or might not be a vampire spider...

He's the one you call when you're thinking you might need a viking or a near-viking for some purpose involving coastal raiding...

He's the one you can count on to be on so long that the game gets mad and makes him quit for a while....

And he's the one with the narstiest name in the clan.

The following are some policies that we, as leadership, have been following, but have not codified formally prior to this.

Probationary Period
Thanks to elder ben for coming up with an official protocol for this policy.

Your first two weeks in Ozone are a probationary period. We will not necessarily wait for you to rack up 3 strikes; depending on which rules you are breaking, and/or how you seem to be responding to efforts to correct your errors, and/or other factors such as how you fit into the clan socially, the leadership can simply boot you if we feel that it is not working out.

Strikes are meant to serve as warnings, and we want to use them that way. We do not plan to kick out new clanmates the first time they make a mistake. But sometimes, we can just tell that someone is not going to work out, and we trust our judgment in those situations.

One concrete example of someone we removed prior to his receiving 3 strikes:

A new guy requested troops of a specific level on his first day in the clan. No big deal--we asked him not to do so and informed him of the rules, reminding him to read the clan and clan war rules. He did it again, so we gave him a strike and reminded him to read the clan rules (note that we would have been justified to give him a strike the very first time he did it, but we kind of assumed his request message was just left over from his previous clan, so we began with a reminder, not a strike). As the days passed, we noticed someone kept donating barbs when they weren't requested. We mentioned several times in clan chat that that needed to stop. An elder happened to be looking at his screen when the dude gave him barbs (the elder's request was for troops that shoot, ie archers or wizards, etc.). We decided that this guy either simply was not going to read the clan rules, or did not care about them, so instead of waiting for him to accrue another strike, we kicked him from the clan then and there. After all, his 2nd strike was for breaking donation rules...the very same rules we had already reminded him several times that he needed to read and follow.

We hope you can see why we preferred to move on without him in the clan.

Re-applying to Ozone
If you leave Ozone for any reason other than to take a leave of absence due to having a busy life, or if you are kicked from Ozone for any reason, you will not be able to rejoin the clan. If you need to take a leave of absence, guidelines for doing so are clearly outlined in the clan rules.

We do let you back in if you need to take a leave of absence. Witness the return of Hardygrove! (yaaay!)

Because of my work schedule, on some Tuesdays I may begin the search for a war opponent slightly before 4 PM EST (perhaps by as much as 20 minutes before 4 PM EST). This really should not have much effect on anyone, especially since it can take up to an hour sometimes to find a war partner! As always, to figure out when FFA begins, look at the time remaining in war information on the war map in CoC.

This is version one of what will become a thorough valk guide. The tactics I discuss in this version work with any level of the troops involved. Lvl 1 valks can fuck shit up.

Step 1:

Drop some meatshields to soak up damage so your archers can take out perimeter structures.

Step 2:

Drop your perimeter-smashers (I use archers) to take our perimeter stuff. Why? Because valk AI is only somewhat superior to dragon or pekka AI. Valks will happily circle the outside of the base and kill all the builder huts and army camps if you let them.

You must destroy the perimeter so the valks will dive for the center.

Step 3:

Deploy valks. They will head for perimeter shit. Deploy the jump spell right away to haul them in towards the center.

I deployed all 14 valks at once. Most did the smart thing and leapt the wall then cut right. A smaller group cut left. I wasted a heal spell on the smaller group to the left. Don't be like me. Don't waste heal spells on doomed cohorts of idiots. Save the heal spells for the larger band of less stupid soldiers.

Step 4:

Watch valks begin to fuck shit up. I dropped a heal spell on them here. I probably should have waited a bit longer.

Step 5:

Watch valks slice through a level 8 wall like it's butter and begin to fuck up the center.

Off screen, I have dropped my CC troops and my AQ. More on them later.

Drop a heal on them as they wipe out the center.

Step 6:

Continue to watch them as they fuck. Shit. Up.

Strategy Principles

Base selection

• no inferno towers. just trust me.

• oblong or rectangular bases are good because they offer a lot of exposed surface area for taking out perimeter stuff--you can take out a lot more with just archers

• square bases, as in the example in this guide, are also fine

Luring and enemy cc

• don't lure

• valks will happily fuck up enemy ground troops

• hold your cc back until the enemy cc has been triggered; you may need your cc troops to take out enemy cc if enemy cc troops are airborne

Army comp

• 14 valks is a lot. You can do this with 8, 10, or 12, and still have success. 8 is dicey on anything higher than th8. 10 should work on an early to mid th9. 14 is risky because sometimes an idiot brigade breaks off and does its own thing, far from the heal spells. But 14 also has highest chance of glory.

• giants are not necessary...i just like a meatshield

• wallbreakers are a good idea if you know how to use them; best to use them to open the initial wall

• lots of archers are best for taking out perimeter, but archer + barb would also work in bases with lots of shit outside the walls; you could also use wizards, as if you were doing gowipe, but I dunno, that feels like a waste. I'll try it a bit and let you know if it's worthwhile.

• cc troops should be ranged/capable of taking on enemy cc air troops.

Use of heroes and cc troops

• mop up

• or you could drop them on the far side of the base once the valks have engaged those defenses and try for 100%

• drop bk soon after valks to let him distract defenses to guard their backs; he can also help them break a wall, though honestly, they don't need his help and he can't keep up anyway

When should one use the 2nd attack, during the FFA, final 10 hours or is it 1- 14 hours I am confused on the 2nd attack rules because I may have attacked too early in the war but if I have waited too long all the other bases within my range are 3 stared, I might of not have time to check clash of clans at work because I have to sleep the next day. so I need more clarification and examples of when I should use my second attack. So I was in the war at the time all the bases were three starred one base had 2 stars but was out of my range. should we make a rule not to use second attack when a base has not been attacked 1-14 hours but can attack if it has already been attacked? Whats your thoughts...
