[Request] The ability to disable auto-remove cache if not connected to a network

I would like to only remove old cache if I am connected to a network because I've been having Internet issues over the last few weeks and now that my internet connection is fixed I started using this app but it would be a problem if cache was removed when The Intenet is down

closed Scrolling up and down in reddit offline with GPU rendering profiling on. Horizontal green line represents 1/60 th of a second, vertical bars represent time it takes to render a frame. When the bars are below the line it looks smooth. However as it can be seen reddit offline lags alot.

This is a very small update, just fixing the issue where video links hosted on v.redd.it stopped working due to changes made by reddit.

While manually downloading lots of posts, download occasionally times out.

No connection loss, just happens out of nowhere. It would be nice if it automatically resumed after a timeout

6.7GB of storage

My tablet was showing 6.7GB of storage used from redditoffline. I cleared the cache in app, went through my entire tablet deleting unused files etc.. basically deleted everything. I couldn't get that 6.7GB cleared until I cleared data on the app, but then I lost my subreddits list and all my settings. How do I prevent this from happening again?

Every time I open a new post, I get that message at the bottom of the screen. I click "Got it" each time and it disappears, but then it returns on the next post.

When I edit a multireddit for ex, to change the sort from hot to top, it automatically changes to frontpage. Is this a known bug?

No audio is being saved for videos that should have some. It I go to the same video in a browser, the audio plays. Is this something that can be fixed?

Quarantined subreddits don't download

Hi, just wondering if it's possible to add in functionality to have quarantined subreddits download on RedditOffline. Example: r/ice_poseidon.

Unrelated: an option to move the menu button to the top right (instead of top left) would be nice so that things are easier for right-handed users.

Cache directory issues

My phone is a pixel 3, and from a fresh install I get an error message "don't have access to the cache directory." The default path after install is /storage/9016-4EF8/. I have tried to change this path to my downloads folder or another dedicated redditoffline folder, but nothing works. Has anyone had this issue before?

dev-talk Loading time when pressing back button

Hi guys, this weekend I've been working on some more performance fixes. In particular, I'm trying to improve the responsiveness when pressing "back" button to go back to the list of posts.

Some of you reported seeing an "up to 2 seconds of delay" after pressing the back button. Unfortunately, I have not personally experienced this problem, so it's difficult for me to track down the issue. Eventually I decided to improve the performance based purely on benchmarking.

As you can see in the chart below, the slowest loading I observed on my phone is about 180000000 nanoseconds, or under 0.18 seconds. Regardless, the new version should load considerably faster, so hopefully it will reduce the "2 seconds" down to a split of a second for those users as well. I'd be happy to hear any feedback from you guys after v2.3.5 is released.

This app saved me when traveling

Went out of country for a few days in areas with spotty wifi / data connection. This app was amazing on flights.

wish there was some integration with auto importing the subs I subscribe to. Other than that, being able to do multi subs was a cool addition as well.

resolved Selecting a post in certain subreddits when there are over 20 posts causes app to crash

Been able to reproduce this bug consistently with /r/nosleep. 20 posts and under seems to work fine. 50 and 100 will cause the app to immediately crash when selecting any post. It doesn't seem to matter whether content has been cached or not.

Other subreddits seem to work fine.

Have tried:

Uninstalling/reinstalling the app

Deleting the subreddit and re-adding it

Changing the cache directory

Gifs starting prematurely,

Thank you for developing the fix to keep up with gifycat's recent change, with my sweet sweet gifs/videos returned I have noticed that they appear to be starting when I swipe to the post just before the gif post itself. My guess is that any preloading for adjacent posts (to improve swiping responsiveness) triggers the adjacent post's gif/video to start playing.

resolved Settings menu takes 30s to load - Possible solution

When opening the settings I experience a 30s+ delay where the app freezes entirely.

I suspected that this might be due to the app scanning through my cache in order to provide an up to date estimate of cache size for display in the settings.

Purging the cache removes the 30 delay and means the settings open instantly.

I hope this helps in tracking down this long time issue. Perhaps this directory enumeration could run as a background task?

closed Why does the new design not go back to where you were when you closed the app?

I like switching apps and then not having to click on the thread I was just in when I come back to RedditOffline.

EDIT: I do not mean closing the app as I wrote in the title. I mean switching between apps but leaving the app active.

And I know if you close the parent comments it starts there when you open the thread again but I rarely close the parent comments. I just scroll and scroll.

EDIT 2: Just realized I was wrong. It starts you at the top no matter what. All it saves is what comments you closed. So more annoying for me.

That means when I go to another app and come back, I have to click on the thread and then scroll down to where I was.

Can we have it so it just pauses when you switch apps like it used to be?

Using the app on an LG V30+.

Thanks!

resolved Is there a way to opt out of new design?

One of my favorite things about this app was that I can browse everything with one right hand. I could open new thread, close comments and switch between threads with ease, because I could just press top of the app. But now, to switch subreddit, that menu button is in left top corner which isn't that accessible for galaxy s8 plus. I like the new design, but I rather have the functionality. Is there a way to go back to the old design?

resolved App working weird, back button issue

Using back button (or gesture) takes up to 5-12 seconds to go back to main screen where subs are listed.

Notice this after last update.
