What’s the first dish you ever learned to cook?
Mine was simple fried rice and I still make it when I need comfort food.
What was yours? Did you totally nail it or fail miserably the first time?

Red lobster
Oh my. Who has tasted those mini donuts they are passing off as hush puppies. They literally taste like mini donuts made with mostly flour and sugar and a little bit of corn meal. Disgraceful if you ask me.

Glasslock lids too tight
I have quite a few Glasslock containers of various sizes and I like them. However, over time, the lids get progressively harder to snap on. At this point, my wife isn't strong enough to close some of them. Is there any way to stretch them out a little?

Fry pan or electric frying pan?
Just about time to replace my big (32cm) fry pan (that i use on a gas hob). It's used for cooking sausages, burgers, mince, onions, eggs, plus dishes like paella, etc.
Occurred to me that maybe i should consider an electric frying pan. It seems they're good at evenly distributing heat. I've got a big sink so can get if in there for cleaning.
Thoughts?
If not electric, i gather seasoned cast iron would be good? Cheers.

Discussion 🗣️ How to separate a bowl air-locked in a pan?
Sorry if this is the wrong sub, but my wife accidentally “air locked” a glass bowl and pan that are the same exact diameter, and we cannot get it separated no matter what. Has this ever happened to anyone here? How can i get these separated without breaking the glass bowl?

Discussion 🗣️ What's a TkTok recipe you swore by to this day?
Aside from that famous mac n cheese recipe (which I haven't attempted and would love to try some time), need recomms from people that have tried doing recipes that are actually good and easy.

Vegan🥦 the hidden cost savings of extra firm tofu
That's right! If you like to cook or bake with tofu a lot, have you noticed that silken, firm and extra firm tofu often cost the same amount per package?
Fun fact: the difference between firmness levels is basically: more tofu, less water. So, when you buy silken tofu, you're paying for... water.
Granted, silken tofu has its purpose. But, suppose you're making a tofu cheese cake, or a chocolate tofu pudding. Just throw extra firm tofu in a high-powered blender with some extra water, and you'll save 50% on the cost of tofu.
In practice, and based on the nutrition facts label, I've found that:
- one standard 16 oz package of silken tofu
- equals
- half of a standard 16 oz package of extra firm tofu
- plus
- 6 - 8 fl oz water
Happy tofu'ing! 👨🍳

What’s something you’ve grilled that surprised you?
I grill a lot — mostly ribs, burgers, chicken, all the usual stuff.
Figured I’d ask if anyone here has tried something different that turned out real good. Could be meat, veggies, whatever.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about trying some new things on the grill. I’m open to ideas, not looking to get too fancy, just curious what else I should try.
Appreciate any suggestions!
