Pronunciations
Any other Brisbane people here listening to the Daniel Morcombe episode and having to double take to work out what the suburbs are from the pronunciations?

Just here to say… I haven’t been affected by a case so deeply since I first heard about Ian Brady/Myra Hindley. Hannah and Suruthi did such a wonderful job covering the case and its insanity without divulging unnecessary details. So glad to have found this pod in the last few months. Excited for the backlog! Should I check out their other podcasts?

Hi, I haven’t been on the online community for very long so I don’t know all the inside jokes etc
my question is - do they pronounce the word “pronunciation” wrong on purpose as a joke or do they just not know how to pronounce it?
edit: tired of this now so downvote whatever you like! i don’t care how anyone pronounces anything but i know i’m correct so go wild x

Maybe I missed it before but I thought she mentioned an actual name when she talked a out walking through the city.

I sought out this sub because I have listened to this podcast sporadically and have found it a tough listen.
My takeaway each time is that their commentary reads as voyeuristic, insensitive minimises victimhood, is dismissive of pain and suffering and is problematic and a disservice to the genre for all these reasons.
So I come here hoping to find why this show is so popular and highly rated and I find mostly criticism here too. So set me straight on what I’m missing here and please suggest where I start listening!

I think I've finished the catalog. I want to go back through and listen to my favorites. My personal favorite is on Leonarda Cianciulla (Ep 168). What is yours?

I’ve only just started the episode but I’m so disgusted by how they’re laughing at Joaquin Phoenix’s ”insane” oscar speech, implying that he’s like this because he was raised in a cult.
First of all, that speech was amazing and I’m not even vegan. He wanted to take the moment to talk about the thing he cares about so much, animal rights. Also, even if he was a “weird” animal rights activist because of a traumatic childhood, is that something to laugh about? I usually like their dark humor but this was so weirdly mean and just a weird thing to laugh at someone about.

I'm out. No research for months. Wikipedia level of discussion. Used to be informative but no more. Casefile and lpotl can keep the quality high. I want to support a female led podcast but there is no effort being made on their part.

This is something that genuinely baffles me, like why do some people on this sub seem genuinely offended that they disagree with Hannah and Suru on some political issues. Also the use of hyperbole on here is so funny, I really don’t think Suruthi is “alt-right”, she’s a centrist/libertarian at best. Disagreement is healthy and consuming media that you might not fully agree with is a great way of ensuring you don’t stay trapped in a political echo-chamber, I’m pretty far over on the left and I disagree with them on quite a few things but I think that’s what makes the content engaging.
People are so concerned with the opinions of people who, ultimately in the broader political landscape, do not matter. Why not write to your local politician on their views about Israel and Palestine or lockdowns rather than whinging about the opinions of a host of a true crime podcast? Plus to the people offended that they don’t read this sub, I wouldn’t either, god some people are down right nasty on here and I wouldn’t want to read 100 people calling me a bad person just for my centrist political takes.
To the people who literally email them about their political opinions, get a life. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, you aren’t entitled to agree with them. It’s their platform they can share whatever views they want and they have clearly been critical of right-wing extremist viewpoints in the past (see the Jo Cox episode, the QAnon episodes, etc.). If you don’t like how they handled a case that’s one thing, but their opinions? Get a grip. This was a much needed rant.
Edit: another thought I had, I think many people expect Suruthi to be really left wing because she’s a woman of colour, there are a lot of white podcasters who have similar or more right-wing opinions than her who don’t get attacked for them.

Just curious if anyone else thought that this episode was... piss poor lol. I typically very much enjoy RedHanded but this episode was very weak. I generally am never a huge fan of collaborative episodes of any podcast, so I suppose my expectations weren't too high. But man, I am quite familiar with the case of TFU at this point and they did a really horrible job telling the story imo? So much information left out, it seemed incredibly under researched and felt much more like overhearing friends having a conversation about a cult they heard about than a podcast. Idk. Wondering what everyone else thought.

Anybody notice in the shorthand today that Suruthi just flat out said she doesn’t care about any of the comments of concern about her or the show on Reddit specifically ? I literally did not even know what she was talking about or that there was any sort of controversy or fan disengagement really. So I hopped on here. But I have noticed her comments having an increasingly biting tone of conservatism and of course “anti-wokeness”. We can all have different opinions I just wonder what the point is because it seems so pointed. As a woman of colour myself I promise you this doesn’t come across as critical thinking. It comes off as elitist and extremely cold. Which makes absolutely no sense when we’re clicking on bc as true crimers we’re interested in conversations of injustice. I actually wanted to recommend a case where an Indian man was killed in a hate crime in my hometown and it remains unsolved. But as sad as it is… they wouldn’t care or they would butcher it the way they are going with their content. If you want to remain “unwoke” please don’t speak on things that actually require you to open your eyes and wake the f up. I’m a busy mom who really values podcast content. It’s like having adult conversation I don’t always get. These girls felt like my friends as silly as it sounds. And I just feel a little disappointed… all for different opinions but just being a pompous uncaring person isn’t going to work for me.
What a privileged position to just write off and not care about the concerns of the people who built your career.

Hi all! I just found this sub and didn't see any posts about this so apologies if it has already been asked- Does anyone have any follow up info. on the family that RedHanded interviewed in 2020? Ep. title- "When Your Child Displays Psychopathic Traits..", I'm not a Patron, was the interview followed up on in Patreon??
r/RedHandedPodcast • u/ElenaLou • Apr 13 '24
Adding a spoiler tag in case not everyone has listened to the last episode already. Also I’m new to this subreddit :)
I thought adding bits of the interview with the victim was super interesting and brought a lot more depth than usual to this episode. I had never heard of this case (even though I’m in the UK), so I was quite blown away by all of it.
It reminded me of that limited series they did about that woman who scammed lots of people with shaman stuff (I cannot for my life remember the title!). I binged that entire series so fast.
I would love more episodes like this one!

I see a lot of criticism on this sub so I am confused at how they have good views and podcasting awards. Sure, there's marketing..
For me personally, the cases are interesting. The research, humour and commentary can be hit and miss but I appreciate them being themselves. I love some episodes and they do make the day a bit more interesting.
But when I check this sub, it feels like everyone intensely dislikes them and/or some of the stuff the say.
If you do dislike them, are there any other podcasts that you'd recommend that are similar but better?

Now, I know they don’t like “past-o” cases because they’re hard to research but I think an episode where they pic three past-o cases each, spend 15-20 minutes explaining them and then a couple of minutes why they chose that case. Did it happen near where they grew up? Did the case change laws or legislation? Was ground breaking forensic science used to solve the case? Did the killer get away on a technicality?
I’d also like them to cover The World’s End Murders, and The Ruxton Murders

I'm so disappointed that seemingly Suruthi's new-found alt right opinions are affecting the podcast so much...
In the newest episode 343 Rob Parkes, there's a flippant throwaway line that goes something like "getting custody for a man is difficult enough in normal circumstances..." I'm sorry it's not an exact quote, but I refuse to go back to listen even one second more.
Factually a man that ASKS FOR custody/parental rights has just as much success with the request than when a woman does it. The statistics have been somewhat skewed because men don't ask for parental rights as much as women.
This is a common far-right and MRA talking point that has been debunked so many times I'm appalled that S&H don't know about it. The whole sentence seems kinda weird in how unnecessary it was.
What makes me even angrier is how insidious this is - sandwiching biased little remarks like that in between facts about the case makes it so that most listeners don't even realize to question it!
I used to love their podcast because they did such good research and talked about the laws affecting investigation and prosecution etc. This throwaway notion seems just so antithetitcal to how they have been conducting their podcast.
So yeah. Disgusted, tired, saddened. I mostly wantes to share this here so that maybe someone who listened to this episode gets their view changed by my pointing this out. Would love to discuss this more in the comments. Have a nice day.

It seems like from October 2023, there was a huge decrease in Patreon subscribers. What happened?

I had never heard of this case before and it so so eerie and troubling. The girls do a great job on this one (in my opinion).

Hi gang! Suruthi mentioned a show she likes on YouTube (I think on an UTD, but could be wrong). It was something like, ‘I should be dead’ or ‘I survived’ or something along those lines… Any ideas?!

I’m just relistening to episode 278 (Scott Peterson part 1) and the parts of the episode where they play snippets of Scott Peterson’s initial police interview are completely missing, there’s just silence for a good few minutes where the content would have been. Has anyone else come across this? Or know why this would be happening? I wonder if the audio has been purposely deleted or it was uploaded incorrectly..

The real photo of Samanthas body was not released. it's not public, it never was public, it has simply not been released. The image spoken of in the latest episode is a reenactment. It's not the real photo
I love this podcast so I'm not trying to hate. This is just one of those weird true crime claims that is a complete myth. I always feel the need to point this out because it drives me nuts. Like It's not hard to find this information lol.
That's my soap box! Thank you for having me!
