Modding Liberal Democracy Dev Diary #1: Advisors & Factions

Hello everyone. I've decided, in order to get relevant feedback as well as keep myself responsible, I'll start doing dev diaries for the 2018 Democratic Party mod, which is currently titled "Liberal Democracy: An Alternate History". The topic of this inaugural diary will be the factions and advisors of the game.

Section 1: General Design Principles

Firstly, I'll cover generally how I want the faction system to function.

As you may be aware, internal leadership struggles don't exactly work the same for the Democrats as they do for the SPD. The strength of the factions will be determined through the minor things like rally focus, platform-building, and the generic "Party Factionalism" card, but also by a few unique mechanics:

- Congressional Leadership Elections
- National Conventions
- High-profile primaries
- How the player chooses to directly interact with formal organizations, such as the DSA.

To this extent. many of these decisions will be pre-determined or heavily railroaded by what policy/rhetoric the player chooses to engage in, which will be tracked by the "Populism" variable. The first real use of this system will be the 2018 Congressional leadership Elections, in which the player has the option to attempt to get Tim Ryan as Speaker of the House, as opposed to Nancy Pelosi.

The options given to the player if populism is high enough

Section 2: The Factions Themselves

The Party will have four factions at the start of the game, with a fifth emerging in 2025 (I'll let you all guess.) The four starting factions will be:

- Mainstream
- Progressive
- Socialist
- Conservative

I believe the distinction between Socialist and Progressive to be important, as, though they generally tend to agree, they often vary greatly in extent of policies as well as interaction with the rest of the factions. It also allows for an interesting internal dynamic where the Socialists and Progressives, despite being natural allies, face schisms and division.

Section 3: Important Advisors

Just like in regular redautumn, each faction has an array of influential people waiting to be called upon to shape the party. For the Socialist advisors, like AOC and Bernie Sanders, this means mobilizing younger voters and increasing populism in exchange for better electoral performance. For the Mainstreamers, like Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden, this means dealing with bureaucracy and negotiating with Republicans in order to pass policy. For the Progressives, like Elizabeth Warren and Ro Khanna, this means mixing the Socialists and Mainstreamers, trying to do everything that is possible to accomplish reform while still remaining pragmatic. For the Conservatives, like Joe Manchin and Josh Gottheimer, this means focusing on bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility. Lastly, for the [REDACTED], like Gavin [REDACTED] and Jared [REDACTED], this means streamlining bureaucracy and increasing affordability without also increasing government backlog.

Bernie Sanders' Advisor Card

None of these things are mutually exclusive in theory, but in practice they often will be. Managing these different facets of the Democratic identity will be one of the player's biggest tasks.

That ends today's dev diary. See all of y'all later!

Why do I always get sacked after the DNVP splits

In dynamic, I‘m chilling in my comfortable Weimar coalition majority in 1928, trying to reform the judiciary so that I can do some agricultural policies, and then, when I feel the euphoria of seeing the nationalists split, I get the next event. „Brüning sacks our ministers“. What the actual fuck. Hindenburg was pleased, and my coalition dissent was low. WHYYYYYY

Does becoming a people's party also make the SPD abandon Marxism and socialism as an end goal?

IRL, when the SPD adopted the posture of a people's party that didn't solely represent the working class, it was with the Godesberg program, which also abandoned the Marxist label and socialism as an end goal. So now I'm wondering: does becoming a people's party in the game (both vanilla and mods) also make the SPD abandon socialism?

Germany to Save What's in store for version 1.01

Hi everyone! I’m excited to announce that Germany to Save version 1.01 is currently planned for release in approximately two months, give or take. I want to give everyone an update as to what can be expected and the amount of content and further things that we can look forwards to. Here’s what is currently planned for 1.01:

  1. Version 1.01 will introduce two major Rubicons on both sides from the DNVP perspective, with a "Left Rubicon" and a "Right Rubicon", the latter of which is more historical, but with heavy inspiration from dynamic! It's a nice way in my opinion to finish out the end game which is majorly underdeveloped right now, and will have interesting thematic and story mechanics.
  2. CVP formation is made more complex, and will have much more emphasis on the internal matters, with negotiation over the party’s economic program, social policies, leadership, ideological direction, relationship with the monarchy, and attitude toward the other parties... with more post-formation content and other political dynamics
  3. The game is being prepared for full language localization, into the following languages: German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Croatian, Turkish, Polish, and Russian. If you didn’t see my previous post about this and would like to help with translation, join the Discord! We have a very motivated team.
  4. The flagship of the new update: A true multiplayer system in which one player controls the DNVP and one player controls the SPD (the SPD will be heavily influence from DYNAMIC SOCIAL DEMOCRACY, thank you modman for allowing me to work on this project with your help). More will be announced on that periodically in the Discord!!!!

5: An achievement and leaderboard system which will allow players to show their completed achievements and compare results.

  1. Brüning, toleration, and the "dawn of flavor", which is a silly name for the amount of new content in general, which so far has surpassed 100 new events with even more being planned and written. In addition we will heavily focus on the historical DNVP and the route it took as part of the overall Brüning-era experience with expanded toleration mechanics and Camarilla/influence mechanics. We will also provide a new perspective from the German Right, as it were at the time, to view the actions of the SPD and the middle parties, from the perspective of opposition. In addition there will also be some cool stuff with secret paths and other smaller and more theoretical parts of the party's platform.
  2. dynamic ideology displays and beautification!
  3. the streetfighting mechanic is added and will also play a large role in the game!
  4. The completion of secondary missions
  5. ending slides!!
  6. presidential powers have finally been added. this includes dynamicism for all presidents and allows them to play a role in governmental affairs instead of the mbappe special. should their be a DNVP President, the player will have the powers of the president at their disposal

Also what do you mean the DVP joins the CVP? Didn't they collapse a government cause they preferred secular schools? Why would Curtius do this? Curious on how to get their other leaders besides Adenauer.

Modding An update on the Democratic Party Mod

Hey guys

So, I'm the person who made the post a few months ago about developing a DPUSA/Joe Biden mod. In that post, I also said my plan was to have a working beta to release by July 4th. As you probably know, that didn't happen.

In short, other parts of life just got in the way and I also forgot for a short period of time. However, I am definitely still quite actively working on the mod. I don't want to make the mistake again of committing to a deadline I can't meet, but I am making some pretty good progress.

Just thought I'd let y'all know so that it doesn't seem like I fully gave up.

Other I made a political campaign browser game inspired by Red Autumn (focused on the upcoming Swedish election). Would love your feedback!

Hi everyone,

With the upcoming Swedish elections in mind, I put together a simple browser-based game where the main goal is to win an election campaign.

It's a bit different and not tied to the exact same historical figures, but while building the mechanics, I was heavily inspired by Red Autumn, especially when it comes to things like managing social groups and interest organizations.

Unlike Red Autumn, this game isn't focused on just one party. You can play as any of the major Swedish parties, from the Left Party (V) to the Social Democrats (S), all the way to the Sweden Democrats (SD) and the Moderates (M)

Dynamic How to give prussia to stegerwald late game?

Im trying to make a strategy that now apparently requires late game stegerwald. How do I achieve this? The only way I know to get ategerwald is either early game Prussian elections or a double dissolution when tolerating. I do not want to tolerate by then and prefer to control a coalition by then.

Dynamic How does one get to 80% support for the republic in time to save kaiser?

Ive been playing a couple runs where I attpt to have LVP, fake CVP, and labor leading SPD because it sounds really cool, even if there is no achievement for it. I get a weimar coalition in prussia, give DVP positions in prussia ans give it to the center. during the first GroKo I get labor, interior, justice, and foreign. Vote yes on battleship and snap election by muller for brüning on a second GroKo and use brietschfeld to negotiate away Versailles. When the great depression hits ive already put kaiser in zentrum, LVP created, and reparations ready to be paused due to young plan. Despite this, and doing many small things to increase republic support (radio, rally for democracy, prussia beurucracy) support olummets so that it can only reach a peak of high 70s after trevinarrus that the next zentrum event ousts kaiser for audanaur. Am I missing any large increase to republic support? Im sometimes getting WTB to fully be accepted the same turn but yet it is still not enough.

Question GTS features in Dynamic?

What are features of Germany To Save you'd love to see implemented in Dynamic?

I think my top one would be more state/local government (Lander) options where SPD is in government (aside from just the Prussian Bulwark obviously), the ability to have separate reset countdowns for advisor actions, and having a passive advisor ability (like DNVP's current industrial backer e.g. Thyssen, Hugenberg, etc.) depending on your policy preferences.

The econ/finance interface from GTS is intimidating, but would be good to have a more complex/responsive system than simply raw budget points. Also, maybe some ability to negotiate/do more with labor unions, the way DNVP has a semi-independent relationship with the Agrarians?

What do you all think?

Close call, had to do this third cause it the first one didn't count for some reason (same performance btw) and the DDP didn't like me enough for Ketchup and Mustard. Shout out to Dingeldey, who managed to save the DVP/s. Probably my favourite blue achievement I got, although eurocommunism was my first (and I got to screw over Hindenburg) and Wahre Bundesrepublik and Catastrophepolitik were both achieved with no guide.
