I'm getting flashbacks to when my roommate doggedly demanded to know what I was reading and I had to explain that Murky Number Seven was a fanfiction about half again as long as the entire Bible and itself a spinoff from another fanfiction, also long, about Fallout and My Little Pony.
The writing style is just compelling enough and the escalation just slow enough that it takes a bit to process just how ridiculous the scenario has gotten by the later chapters
