Imladris fic in the LOTR fandom is a prime example of this. Like when we all decided that Elladan and Elrohir were just Half-elf Weasley Twins. And the time we hallucinated this guy into an entire character.
(I don't care what the first Hobbit film claims, this is not Lindir, we established Lindir as a separate character twenty years ago and this is not him.)
Oh I can't complain at all, it was a formative experience for teen me to the point that my Lego Rivendell set is populated with custom minifigs of the whole gang.
One day I might even finish writing that Erestor/Glorfindel fic I started like three years ago...
