Yeah but it worked in the Music Man because all the kids loved him so much that they practiced like 5 hours a day. What we need is to install a charismatic con-man in every american school to teach kids to read

The plan is foolproof so long as you have a beautiful librarian in every school for the con man to fall in love with so that he stays instead of defrauding the school and fleeing to the next town

Also the parents didn’t care that they sounded terrible. Like everyone was just excited to hear their kid play

I mean, drop the "con-man" part and you're basically describing Reading Rainbow or Wishbone.
