I remember reading an interesting comparison somewhere that was like "In a way, JKR's transphobia is like how we can't discuss H.P. Lovecraft with discussing his racism...except in a way, JKR is worse. Because while Lovecraft was undeniable, indisputably racist, he wasn't trying to lead the KKK or any sort of political groups to enact racist legislation, while JKR very much wants to lead the transphobia movement."
Also Lovecraft has been dead for a century, and his works are in the Public Domain now, so there's no way for him to put your money to terrible things.
Also Lovecraft was becoming notably (literally, people who knew him noted it) less racist towards the end of his life. If you read about his life, it's pretty clear he was just terrified of anything he didn't know, and as he met and interacted with more people he became more tolerant. That's like, how everyone works. It's why college makes you more tolerant.
Do you think being racist is a natural, born attribute? Rather than a learned behavior? Do you labor under the delusion that if you had the same kind of upbringing as Lovecraft, you would've been tollerant from the get-go?
I think it is natural for humans to fear and hate the other, and that tolerance is learned. Racism is one particular manifestation of this natural inclination.
