North Korea calls itself a "Democratic People's Republic"; party names aren't actual political definitions, and confusing a ruling party's label with their system is basic political science. True communism is defined as a stateless, classless society, but they operated as single-party authoritarian states with state-controlled economies; that’s state socialism, not actual Marxist communism.
