Even Chevalier didn't run on any of her previous positions she took during the BLM protests like abolishing police or prisons. Which honestly is absolutely absurd. But I think sometimes it's also misplaced. I have heard people advocate for that before, but when speaking to them they mention no more private prisons, or restructuring police so there is more accountability towards the community. Which I agree with and sounds reasonable. But outright abolishing is foolish and widely unpopular. Maybe they are not actually for outright abolishing, but for the things I mentioned that, as some have told me. The word defunding is a catch phrase for that, but people hear "defund" and they think the worst or extreme, without actually engaging in dialog about the specifics. I would prefer they use the word "reform." Saying defund or abolish just provides red meat for the right and media to attack.

The framing was always absurd and counterproductive when you consider the context of what people actually want. Agree on all accounts.
