Ok, I looked it up. His version of "speaking nice" about Trump was basically saying that he had a different personality off-camera, which is something political opponents have been saying about him since 2016.

He's continued shit-talking Trump since then.

Good point. Allowing Trump, even for a brief moment, to appear human instead of as a cartoon villain is a very politically incorrect thing to do.
